  • I had noticed some new leaks on the driveway and saw a small drip out of one of the rear duals. Smelled like diff fluid so I had a bad seal. This video I replaced it, and it was a pretty easy and straight forward process.

8:03 when the seal has the red stuff on the outside, you don’t need silicone, you made the right choice, putting the silicone on that seal

Last tip ..Dorman has an axle nut with a nylock so you don’t need that stupid little wedge

Was the bearing tight up next to the seal. The bearing is about an inch from the seal over here😂

If you look at the chrysler service manual for these trucks you don't actually need to replace that nut. It says to put the retainer in a different spot on the plastic, that's all. I know people are crazy about replacing nuts, but that's nuts. That all started with companies wanting to sell nuts and getting that word out to always replace your nuts. Same with the pinion nut. It's not necessary.

I've got an 01 3500 and I've had to replace rear passenger side 3 times and 3 times on driverside also. I'm doing the drives side again today. I've taken it to 3 different mechanics and no one can figure out why they keep failing. I do have 2" spacers and I do pull 10,000# - 15,000# quite often. But they still shouldn't be failing. We even put speedy sleeves on to account for any wear where the seal sits. Don't make any sence. The dealership has even replaced them. I took it to then thinking hell there's no way they can get it wrong but that wasn't the case. After the 3rd on the passenger side it has held up for about a year and the 3rd one on driver side made it about 8 months and now it's pouring out again. Where to start now...?

I'd check for a bent axle, maybe its causing uneven wear. That's very strange.

I'm a pipeline welder with a custom welding bed and a1800 lbs machine plus bottles and tools so any given time I'll say I'm caring 3,000 extra lbs I use to have that problem until I bought rims with the 2 inch offset instead of running wheel spacers/ adapters. $1500 for the rims but saves you $1200 each time each side brakes

Greasing it when installing? Don't hit the threads on shaft when installing and check your vent tube for blockage. Otherwise it's possible your bearings are to loose and causing the seal to leak.
