    This was such an amazing feeling to see the results of her hard work! I can't express how proud I am. In case anyone things I was being hard on Kim, On takeoff the Baron rotates at 84 knots so rotating at 50 was a sensation I have not felt for years. LOL Please Like, Subscribe and Share! @@shreddder999 ... I think not. Until she passes said checkride, and is handed her certificate, the DPE is still PIC. He may not "have the controls", but he is still the responsible party of that aircraft, and at anytime during the check ride, can end it.

      @@rickashford4005 AOPA: When conducting a practical test, an applicant is typically considered the pilot in command (PIC) for the flight. FAR 61.47(b) allows the Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) to act as PIC if the DPE agrees to act in that capacity prior to the flight. However, the FAA strongly recommends that a DPE not agree to act as PIC during a check ride. This means that, absent extraordinary circumstances and an amenable DPE, an applicant can expect to serve as PIC during a practical test.

    • @tstanley01
      @tstanley01 9 месяцев назад

      @@rickashford4005 Any time you fly solo during your training, you should be logging it as PIC. On your checkride you are logging PIC time, but it is as a student and is solo. That is why you still need a current solo endorsement in order to conduct the checkride. The DPE is neither a passenger or a crew member during a checkride. It is a very unique situation where they are an observer and aren't defined by the normal criteria.

    Well done 🙂 Quick tale...my older brother was a DC-8 captain flying cargo when I was going through my PPL training. I had wanted to be a pilot since I was a child, he got there first and oddly, had not supported my effort. My check ride was tough, older FE and a thought I blew it, but when we landed he shook my hand and said "very good". I was a PIC!!
    Who would be my first passenger? Yes, I invited my DC-8 captain brother and yes, what was I thinking, but for me, I needed to show him I *was* a good pilot. As we flew he asked me to do things (he use to be a CFII) and I executed each one and to top it off, I greased the landing at Peter O'Knight (Tampa). His comment to me as we walked away from the Tomahawk (and yes, he was not use to that) was...well done, I'd fly with you any time.
    I loved seeing you PIC, your big bad Baron Husband as passenger and truly seeing...you are a good pilot. Will you take this to IFR? Will you move up to complex of (gasp) multi? IF you do I have no doubt you will reach those goals. God I miss flying.

    Kim, I'm 84 years old and have been following your adventures since day 1. Why is it when you landed I felt so proud of you? Doubt your flair would have been quite as long had a certain passenger not told you to go a few knots faster (for safety, I get it) because of the wind gusts.
    I got my private pilots license almost 50 years ago and had to give up flying when I realized I did not have the time or money to stay safe. Smart decision at the time. Regretted it 25 years later.
    I might add one more thing. The only thing I remember from my check ride was when the check pilot signed off and turned to me and said, "You now have a license to learn how to fly..."
    Really look forward to more videos and seeing your confidence grow. As you were making your approach you told your passengers what you intended to do. If you were driving a car, you wouldn't do that, you would just drive. It won't be long that you will do the same as a pilot.. Way to go young lady....

    She knows the direct to - enter - enter...but does she know the IFR centric direct to - direct to - enter (activate a segment)...Also, my favorite 430/530 trick. When arriving at the airport, hit the obs button and spin the obs to the runway heading, and your magenta line will align with the runway heading. It is an awesome aid to help you orientate yourself to an unfamiliar runway (learned that the hard way, 14 and 18 are basically the same heading...)

    Congratulations Pilot. Your first flight as actual PIC is something you will never forget. Glad you had the opportunity to share it with those two. I was fortunate enough to be able to share my first flight as a private pilot with my mother who was my very first instructor back many years ago. She was also a 6,000+ hr multi engine ATP, CFI,CFII & MEI. I was also able to utilize her as a safety pilot to help me get the required hours of actual or simulated IMC for the instrument rating I started right away. On your journey your gonna have good days and bad days so just roll with them and don’t push a bad position ever…. Your last 2 videos I was so glad to see you hand flying the plane. Auto pilots are a great accessory that you don’t want to depend on, cause rest assured they will let you down when you want them the most and least expect them to break. I’m gonna share a saying my mom started back when she was still instructing back in the late 80s through early 90s…. Currency goes in your log book Proficiency keeps you alive. It’s more for instrument flight but goes as well for VMC flying as well. So blue sky’s and fair winds. Good luck.
