  • This documentary on Water resources in the Sahara - North-western Sahara Aquifer System (Algeria, Libya and Tunisia), focuses on the farmers by showing through demonstration pilots, the main farming systems present in the SASS basin. The project SASS III aims to analyse and change the behaviour of water users in the SASS region to promote a more efficient and profitable irrigation. The “agricultural demonstration pilots” component enabled the assessment of the feasibility and applicability of the available technical and technological solutions to the major problems in the SASS region.

Mono-cropping is not sustainable in a desert environment. The Government should look into large scale land reclamation projects to restore the land and induce natural rainfall to recharge ground water. China has shown that it can be done.

    renewable water resources ?
they are using fossil water, which is a non-renewable
they are mostly wasting this finite and precious water in irrational ways
