I put a Dana 60 (Dynatrac) under the rear of my built 1981 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler with a 44 up front. LS3 460HP, built 700R4 through a built Dana 300 transfer case, and full Corsa exhaust. Just a 2" lift. It looked stock. Corvette red with lots of chrome. Looked stock until it was started. On the way to champagne brunch. it would burn the 33" BFG tires through 2nd gear. What a fun hot rod.
It's amazing how well those axle housings turn out with some elbow grease and a couple wire wheels! Can't wait to see that diff stuffed up under the Burb!
Curious squirting grease twords the bearings? I was taught to put grease on my palm, working the bearing into the grease until oozes out from the wide side to the narrow going all the way around. Aka packing the bearings.
I never looked at a coast pattern.. With heavy Trucks you can move the Pinion in and out with Shimes.. You move the ring gear from side to side .. closer to or away from the Pinion by turning the threaded carrier bearing caps .
I was just going to ask where the specialised tools are. The way the factory adjusted them…is the way you want to go I think. If tools aren’t unobtainable. 😂
Alot of people complain about the cost of things, but the more things get produced like upgrades, the cheaper it gets and vice versa. But lets be realistic. The superduty axle is no longer a relatively cheap option. The more people that use thrm, the more their price is going up. Couple years ago you could get one for $400 from a salvage yard.. Now I'm seeing a bone stock one for $1000-$1200...so price is sort of relative now......2.5 tons are still the best bang for the buck ( a pair can be had for $1500)..id trade my Ford KP 60 and 14 bolt for a pair of good 2.5/ 5 tons
I just bought a suburban to haul my K5 since I decided to go with a th400. Except the only difference its a 1993 2wd GMT400 2500. Its got a tbi 454, 4l80e and 14 bolt full floater. \m/ My idea is to build it into a 5 seat prerunner with high travel trophy truck ifs, while retaining rear leafs for towing
Love my D60 High steer and 14 bolt in my Jimmy...But on 37's I only have a extra 1/2" of clearance under the pumpkin's vs the stock axles on 33's (both are on goodyear MTR's)...shows the extra girth of the tons. Now I really need to regear the Jimmy with the 33's as the 3.07 gearing is well not good hahahaaha. Do I seek the tons(way overkill and poor clearance) or I do have 3/4 ton 14 bolt semi float and Corp 10 with 4.11 gears...just need to add a locker set up or just regear the stock axles....leaning on the 3/4 set up but that could be used in another build I'm planning this winter......
I have a 4.56 Dodge front Dana 70 kingpin axle with disc brakes and a 4.56 Dana 80 rear. Should I use them in my 72 W200? It currently has a worn out 44 and a rear 60.
I've been trying to locate a Dana 60 but I am not having any luck. I live in North Florida. Any idea's? I am looking at a Dana 60 housing on EBAY, bit pricey at about 1300 for just a housing with nothing else included.
thing is, you are gonna replace a lot of what a complete 50 year old axle... the bare housings can save money. But recognize that you will sink a lot into new parts
If you would build an everyday car that will hold forever and can be driven by your children after you, would you go with that K30-kind axles or are they overkill then?
Wait... was that a K5 blazer??? I have one at my ranch. Gift from my father when o was 18. It was like $500 at an auction. It's been sitting in the the goat barn, as a toy for the goats to climb in and out. Surprising its not rusted at all, even the roof is still good. I've never given it thought, and after years it's just been a wall flower in the background. DOES IT REALLY HAVE A DANA 60???? 😅
Great video man! I love your intro! Ive been a subscriber for a while and watch your videos just havent commented before! I too have a youtube channel where i am building an FJ40 on chevy 1 tons, 3 and 4 links. This video will help me out when it comes to building my 60! Thanks man.
I hate to say but those D60 are nothing compared to the Dana Super 60 that comes in the 2017 and up super duty trucks...for example the 2017 and up Super 60 have 3.5" axle tubes with 1/2" wall 35 spline inner and outer axle shafts, 1550 steering u-joints, 10" ring gear...this is the axle I used for my solid axle swap duramax 👍🏿👍🏿
@@oscarbear7498 Dam right lol....ask yourself this do I want a heavy duty 8 lug Dana super 60 front axle that comes of a 2017 and up f350 superduty with the specs mentioned 👍🏿👍🏿 or a light duty crap 5 or 6 lug dana 30 or 44 front axle👎🏿
Not that awesome on one ton trucks they were designed for . I have lived to witness and hate the front 60 on my f350 single rear wheel diesel truck. Yes simple. Not flawless design. Fine for light duty jeeps maybe
that 70's dana 60 is worthless compared to the 2017 and up Dana Super 60 that is found on f350 super duty trucks, the 2017 and up Super 60's have a 10" ring gear 3.5" axle tubs with 1/2" wall, 1550 steering u-joint and 35 spline inner and outer axle shafts, this is the front axle i used on my solid axle swap duramax
You know what I love? The fact that he is rebuilding that axle while sitting in a recliner....

Serious. They go from gnarly to new after only 100 hours of back breaking work 😂
Just found this channel! I'm looking at getting a 67 F250 High Boy. This info is priceless. Thank you!

Yup. Still the best way. I have a small tool that does that for me for brand new bearings.
Just ordered my brackets for the late model rear seats cant wait to install remove the top & enjoy the sun

Agreed. The benefit of the GM for me is kingpin and simplicity. The Ford Dana is killer, especially the super 60. If you want radius arms 🤷🏼♂️😜

that would be dope!
I came across a nice 94 explorer 4x4. Would I have to get for my model or can I fit any model into my truck . Barely getting into this
Great stuff🤘!
Thanks guys! Full of Yukon goodness!
Great video
So this the better one to use in my g20 van 4x4 conversion what think about 2005 f250 4x4 ?? I have the 4l80 and transfer case drops to the left

That is a tough call. I went with overbuilt for the burb and like having spares to all my axle stuff.
Nice video! I just bought a very nice Dana 60 from a M1008 for $100. Do you think I would have a hard time making a couple bucks on this if I resell?
Probably not
Keep the videos coming. Do you know of anyone who is running the 3/4 brake conversion ? If so how well does it work ?
I don't sorry!

What E Locker are you using?
I love the Eaton E-Locker. Have it in the Blazer and the Burb. Awesome locker
What ratio is the best for k30 3+3 dually 12 valve Cummins?? I like to get good mpg???
40mph.
Depends on tire size and OD or not.
I have an 86 f350 I believe it came stock with a Dana 60 front and a sterling 10.25 rear. If it was an 85 I'd have a Dana rear too...😐
Nothing wrong with aa sterling. Tough as hell. Gear ratios and lockers cost more than a 14ff though
An 85 350 would also have the ttb50. Ford realized what a mistake that was fast enough
so the next best axle would be the dana 44?
Nailed it
@Mr. Completely thank you,i believe in my 88 k5 it is a dana 44 but in 6 lug and in my 74 bronco i have a dana44 but in 5 lug.
@@MerricksGarage thanks bud!

Who is better Yukon or Dynatrac
Different companies. One sells parts for axles one sells axles
Not cheap is right, $1200. Glad I found mine at a local yard and from a west coast rig.
“They haven’t been made for a long time” all aftermarket axle manufacturers just said excuse me we have better housings with king pins
have you picked those aftermarket axles out?
Top Passenger side.
and
Top Pilot side.
Easy Peasy
what??
@@MerricksGarage label the bearings with the initials. What could go wrong?
They dont break

Worthless you say? Craigslist and eBay would say different.
Far from "strong" on the wear parts that they use
LOL, using a caliper not a micrometer, This has got to be the most disjointed video. Not a tutorial and not a guide, what is the point?
$2600.00 in parts every 6 months. Run away from these units
thats why I like the king pin axles. Like in my video
