In the old days the embankments were kept burnt and clear. They were never allowed to get into such an overgrown state that is untimely a major problem. Decades of cuts and so called savings have led to the problems that we have to endure today.
Absolutely right. This can't be cheap, and talking about accidents you would not stand a chance with one of these accidentaly heading your way. Can't chop trees down these days without a somebody making a fuss, just look at the state of the country's railway network and heritage railways, it's a big problem waiting to happen.
Surely you could not use that near any overhead power cables, If it kicked out there would be all sorts of problems and costly damage, so its likely limited mostly to heritage lines which makes it an impressive, but extremely expensive toy. .
I wonder what the effect will be when this is happening on the mainline and those saw blades find a bike or a shopping trolley that's been launched into the tree by some council estate neanderthals.
Brilliant more money waisted by SVR and the paying public will be paying for it , remember your roots this wasn’t needed years ago and certainly isn’t needed now, reduce ticket prices for the public and stop wasting money.
On the contrary, I imagine the SVR would have actually received payment for allowing the promoters to demonstrate their equipment to Network Rail, and had some tree felling done for free. It is the same as when they allow demonstrations, testing and training with tamping equipment. They get nicely tamped track, and probably some payment too. Using 'heritage' railways for this sort of thing, and for general training, is cost effective for Network Rail as it can be done when the hertitage railways are not normally operating trains, and does not block sections of the 'real' railway. I know some people do not like to think of heritage railways being a business, but it costs a lot of money to keep pretty steam trains running safely.
Of course the SVR didn't pay for it, that would have cost about £40k! It was a demonstration as stated and the railway actually gains by getting the work done free.
Wow thats one heck of a hedgecutter. Reminds me of helicopter with circular saws fitted in the 007 film the world is not enough.
Absolutely amazing - well done SVR! Thank you for the presentation Lesley.
Holy moly, thats some piece of kit 🤯🤯😲
Woah the helicopter flying over the seven valley railway

If you'd watched the video they make it clear they could never afford it and so to have the use of it for free is a godsend.
