    It's wild how many variations I've seen from poking around inside different copies of this lens. Either they changed it over time or there are huge regional manufacturing differences

    Very nice! I did this today (but only for dust removal) and everything went according to plan until I accidentally loosened the aperture blade so they fell out of position and now I can't figure out how to take out the actual aperture plate, so I can put them back into position. Do I need to disassembly the lens from the back to be able to do that?

      I actually managed to put the diaphragm back together without taking it out. It was a challenge for sure and it took a few tries. You'll need a set of precision tweezers if you ever run into this problem (hopefully not).
