      @@MDethCKR from Michelin's perspective, the average car owner wants less rolling resistance for fuel economy, road noise, and tire wear, thus resulting in a tire that does not provide much grip compared to sticky road going one lap wonders like the Bridgestone RE71R. The Primacy is going to be what the average Joe wants from a tire, giving Michelin and other tire manufacturers incentive to price such a tire higher than sticker and sportier road tires.
      The Primacy HPs are actually decent tires on track for driver skill development due to its predictable grip falloff as the tire experiences increase in slip angle, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to go out and buy a new set for the track when they are done due to reasons such as performance/$, and compound heat capacity

    • @BladezAndrew
      @BladezAndrew 4 года назад +2

      @jonny j it's not just the live axle, it's weight distribution isn't 50/50 and is slightly forward, and it's boxy shape and lack of a spoiler in most cases gives it some lift in the rear at high speeds, and i think it's fair to say it has a fairly short wheelbase compared to a lot of other cars. The suspension has to be set up really meticulously similar to a miata you need a really stiff front with a pretty loose rear or else the car will oversteer a lot, and most people don't know how to really setup their cars or are turned into drift cars so of course people want them to oversteer, sometimes unhooking the rear sway bar for both those cars is usually a good thing believe it or not, so long as you're using stiffer springs, a little more weight will transfer to the rear to slightly balance it out more and provide more grip for the rear tires.

    You don't "drive" an AE86 Corolla, you commune with it; everything the car doesn't have (ABS, TCS, power steering) is what makes it special.
    That sacrosanct place we as auto enthusiasts don't get anymore, where it truly is just you and your machine; that missing other-half with no buffers in between you and the car.
    It's hard to explain without sounding like a total loon.
    I love mine (non-running...I bought it non-running, its been a project car), even never having driven it yet...the more I work on it, the more I fall in love with it, the more my anticipation grows...longing for that experience of pure mechanical joy I haven't experienced yet in my life, and count myself fortunate to have a car that will eventually deliver me to that end.
    I know I sound like a total nut-job just my two-cents.

    The goal of the stock 86 in assetto is to drive it the hardest you possibly can. The live axle is a bit wonky and if you dont keep power to the wheels it could easily slide out. Due to the live axle the rear also hops quite a bit through the corners, which can be annoying. The GT86 is a well balanced car in the game and it's fairly easy to drive, decent cornering with the right setup aswell.

      How Isn’t a 2.0l boxer-4 exciting?
      That’s actually quite a lot of power for an engine of its own kind. It’s only a naturally aspirated 2.0l 4-cylinder. Though It makes around 200hp. Most cars nowadays achieve these figures by turbocharging. Yet this one is NA, which means it was tuned carefully before going into mass production.
      Plus the car itself weighs only around 1220 kilos. Again, pretty good considering it even keeps up to the safety regulations, most other cars weigh 150-250 kilos more. The real issue with the GT86 is the tires. But that can be fixed. So imho, the GT86 does a great job at being a spiritual successor and a weekend fun car.

      In a world where turbocharged 2 liter, often AWD, hatchbacks are the cheapest way to gain access to a "performance" car (talking about new cars here), both, the GT86 and MX-5, are a fresh breath of air to the world of affordable new performance cars. Especially with the 86 with its unique engine configuration and RWD. Both cars retain the traditional recipe of a sports car: RWD and a relatively low weight.
      This is why the STI has a unique character even with its outdated EJ25 engine. Hence it's going to be a sad day if Subaru decided to ditch the boxer engine in favor of a conventional inline four for the upcoming STI.

    Idk if this was actually the case irl since I haven’t handled an AE86 myself. But in the anime, the car boasted it’s handling during downhill races in mountain passes. It uses the slope to go fast and oversteer to lose minimal speed during entry and exit of very tight corners. I feel like putting it in a wide and flat track, with uphill parts mind you, is kinda bit unfair for showcasing the strength of the car (as portrayed in the show that is).

    The old car had a live rear axle and a terrible lack of corner exit traction on any less than smooth surface thanks to all that unsprung weight.

    the prius tyres are thin. This makes drifting easier. This is what makes the GT86 so driftable and cool.

    I fucking hate people who say "The GT-86 is so underpowered" like seriously piss off. The GT-86 is supposed to be a fun, affordable sports car and the successor and answer to a newer AE86. The reason people like the AE86 is because it's light and fun to drive. The GT-86 is exactly that yet because they see Porsches and other cars, they call it "Underpowered".

    Mostly offtopic from this video, sorry! But would love a Tips and Recommendations for tuning and technique for a Initial D style of racing in Forza Horizon 4. Sort of grippy but taking corners in a slide along the racing line.
    I'm new to the FH series, only having played the original Motorsport way-back-when, and being a setup noob I've been making use of Forzatune 6 and 7 to reasonably positive success, but it still isn't quite right and would love some hints.
    Most drift tune videos/guides are those that whack in about 1000bhp, cause a lot of smoke but don't really go anywhere fast. I'm making replicas of the Takahashi brothers RX-7s, getting the stats of each car as close to the anime version as possible. For example, my Keisukes First Stage RX-7 aims for 335bhp, and his Fourth Stage one aims for 443bhp. So, realistic, and not massive power.
    Just would love your take on something like that.

    The AE86 could've been 2 tenths quicker at least with a cleaner T1. Gotta say anyone who thinks the new car is better is absolutely halucinating. Lighter cars are more fun and the gt86 is still dissapointingly heavy if I'm honest. All it's laptime came from the straights.

    I'm guessing they just put prius tyres on as standard to please the regulators, they only look at economy stats of the car as it is sold as standard so a slight improvement in economy per car lowers their average eco-footprint throughout their entire product range, similar to why there are cars with 2 totally unusable seats in the back (lowers insurance risk category vs selling it as a 2 seater from the factory), "hey look at our sports car it's got eco friendly tyres *please don't tax us*"

    • @MisTomis
      @MisTomis 5 лет назад

      back seats have no influence on insurance premium, stop spreading internet myth. And tyres were to make car fun as in slidey even tho its quite low on power.

    • @Broadpaw_Fox
      @Broadpaw_Fox 5 лет назад

      @@MisTomis - based on the way you spelled 'tyrese, I'm guessing you're European. Over here in the US, insurance does take into account things like 'useless' rear seats. A 2+2 would be slightly cheaper to insure than a straight 2 seater.
      With that said, the difference is often not worth considering. 1 ticket is a lot more $$ difference than you save with the rear seats, so... meh.

    • @RWoody1995
      @RWoody1995 5 лет назад

      Not mission failed actually, this is just speculation obviously but it is often the case in regulations that reducing some parameters some silly small amount like 1% can be the difference between getting a product to market or not so the alternative could have been no GT86 ...btw... 60k? they cost 30k...
      Tomek Czajkowski, you can guarantee Toyota/Subaru engineers would have preferred to put better tyres on the GT86 as standard, it's just marketing wank you are being gullible to if you think they actually *wanted* to reduce the cars grip. Claiming putting shit tyres on the car to make it fun is classic of a marketing department trying to sell a "bug" as a "feature".

    I m the owner of a good ae86 rust specc i have few videos on my YT channel if you have 5 minutes to spare :v , and few years ago i won a thing with Toyota France and had the chance to drive hard on track a GT86 for a day on a little track ,well i ve prefered the old one for its awesome sounding 4ag engine ,the lovely interior and of course the solid axle with lsd ! but the new one is just awesome to drive too ! fu**bois love to say it s a slow car but it s not at all :v , in present years you need balls to made an RWD car with a good torsen diff , and an handling like that ! the car can do lot of things , trackdays and can be a fun drift training car without changing any parts , and a perfect daily with good fuel consumption ! it s basically a big toy ! maybe the only modern car i would buy (i m more in love 80's and 90's cars).... if i don t buy another AE86 ! PS : with oem suspensions on both cars i think the GT86 can be a lot faster than the old 86 :p

  • @AccountingRaiding
    @AccountingRaiding 5 лет назад

    I own both of these cars IRL, I know this is a sim but the GT is much faster than my Sprinter. I have a huge feeling you're not driving the GT properly, the GT and Sprinter can't be driven the same at all. When I say much faster I mean MUCH faster, my local track times are a good 10-15% faster than when I do them in my Sprinter.

  • @bramboraail
    @bramboraail 5 лет назад

    One other useful data in the comparation is the average speed of the track, so what is the track lenght ? A heavier car can not be faster everywhere :)

    • @bramboraail
      @bramboraail 5 лет назад

      Maybe there is a diference between the official track lenght and the path the car takes, because it drives only in the ideal line. (Just drive in ideal line in constant speed (keep 2-3 gear reved for constant speed) and see how long it takes,then calculate the distance)
