"Just attack" (from 6.30) - good advice! A few techniques developed well are much better than a lot of techniques developed badly. There's an obsession with Wing Chun practitioners to keep learning new techniques, forms etc., without developing striking power.

Well said 👏 👌 it's about time the new generation practitioners to understand that.

Thanks David. That’s a a great story about your sifu Wong and the knife fight. We were also learning defences against knives in Australia. It was only after training in HK with my Sigung , Chu Shong Tin and being told to “run” by him , that it dawned on me that this must be the best thing to do . Valuable lesson.

I think WSL said once that the art of self-defence is the art of invisibility. That says it all. When visiting Spain he slept in my sifu's house. My sifu always used to talk about him with the upmost respect.

They should. I wish there was footage of WSL fighting. He had so many fights. It would be great too see him besting people as educational tool for wing chun students to learn.

Totally agreed. The only person who could produce and direct is Donnie Yen, and choreography would be Donnie Yen and Yuen Woo Ping. The film should be called Ip Man 5: Wong Shun Leung (WSL). I have been going to Donnie yen's facebook page sometimes if the subject is close to Ip Man films to make comments on Wong Shun Leung Biopic. It would be dope. And find an actor who has decent martial arts skills to play the great master.

Thanks. I do not need to know what would become of him if he fought in UFC because his Wing Chun worked against (1)multiple opponents (2) in a real fight in the street (3) against weapons. MMA sports contenders have their asses handed to them quite often in street fights speaks volumes. RUclips is full of these. Wing Chun works where it counts.

There were exactly 2 students of yip man "to go to" in case of school rivalry: leung sheung and lok yiu!

Perhaps early on in HK Ving Tsun history, but once they started conducting their own classes, they did less & less ‘Beimo’ and Wong Shun Leung became the leading member of the Yip Man Clan to represent the school, hence the “Gong Sau Wong” title.

Every single statement you Said ist provably wrong.
I myself have witnessed wong shun leung to shut Up because lok you told him so.
Everybody in Hongkong knew (and many still do) that Lok yiu and leung sheung were the unchallenged authorities in Wing chun.
And because Lok yiu outlived wong shun leung that means... Exactly!

I dont want to be a smarta..., but i dont get it why ppl still write the name as "Wong Shun Leung" in 2021.
This was the way the name was written 50 or 100 years ago, but not today anymore.
Its either in kantonese Wong Shun-leung or Wong Shunleung, or in mandarin Huang Chunliang.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wong_Shun-leung
The Yale romanization has been overtaken by Hanyu Pinyin, which is more evolved and better understandable for western people.
In chinese and korean the names basically consist of 3 single symbols, and they are written together without a space between them. If you translate them word to word it would be:
    WongShunLeung
But this is not common in the west. But even Wong Shun Leung can be confusing since many ppl with think Shun is a middle name (like John Fitzgerald Kennedy), and the given name would only by Leung.
Wong Shun-leung or Huang Chunliang shows clearly the 2 names Shun/Chun and Leung/Liang belong together which they do.

    • @chrisbach1533
      @chrisbach1533 2 года назад

Of course anyone can do it like he wants. But romanizations are there to make it as easy as possible. At least hyphenated the name Wong Shun-Leung so ppl can see Shun and Leung belong together. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also hyphenates Abdul-Jabbar because the names belong together too. If you only write Kareem Abdul Jabbar many ppl will think Abdul is a middle name.
