I'm using the mpc one standalone and I haven't turned my computer on for so long and I'm so happy I did. It helps me sample anything with my phone and let's me do anything I can do :)
Yea the mpc live 2 is great 👍🏻 it’s portable I can do what every other mpc can do , and that alone makes it very close. As the owner of all 3 I won’t even sit here and make you guys feel better about your selves . The X is the best on every level , the user experience alone makes it superior to any mpc on any level, yes the 16 q links and no menu diving make it that great.

All of them for me but the Live II gets the most work. I carry it everywhere. Being that I play keys, the Key 61 is a deal maker. Plus, it reminds me of the ASR-10. I remember asking Akai about an Mpc with a keyboard. The rep told me in 2008 they couldn’t discuss it. I think they did well for the first version. Next, I would imagine an 88 Key with a flip screen and more knobs and buttons. I absolutely love the Mpc X. It’s like working on a space age Mpc 3000/4000 mixed. Mostly because of the form factor. With each unit, I get a different feel. I feel R&B with the Keys, hip hop with the X and a little of both with the Live II. But I can do everything with either machine. Hard to say, but I would probably choose the Live 2 if I could only have one, but the X looks so I’ll sitting there like the boss…Great video @bolodaproducer
One day I may try some other kind of hardware, but I'll ALWAYS love the MPC. All the producers I'm inspired by have used them. RZA, DJ Muggs, Havoc, Swiss Beatz, Alchemist, 9th Wonder, Heatmakers.....So many.
I’ll say the X.. 8 outs for tracking, easy q links, and I’m not killing my eyes with the smaller screens.. Traveling making beats is a novelty in the internet age.. All those extra screens to find stuff in the 61 and live kills the production vibe. To many steps
All the mpcs are good but honestly for a person that plays the keys and is a pianist the key61 is a animal and to me gives me everything I need without extra attachments

Nobody said Key61 😂. I can't choose between my X and live II. Live II does get more use...but I get busy busy on the X cuz all the dedicated buttons and knobs. My one, I don't really touch it...but it's there to be used in another space...I could still use it in a portable setup the live II is kind of big still. The Key61 idk I mean I already have a workstation keyboard and I'm not losing or missing out on anything just having the keyboard plugging into the MPC directly. Also I hate reaching over the key bed to hit the pads and I prefer a tilt screen or else I feel like I must stand up. I don't really like the ergonomics.
I loved the 2500, I really liked the thickness of the sampling of the 4000. I tried the the key61 and liked it but brought it back because it was buggy. I see they improved . (Sometimes I regret bringing it back..no cap) maybe I’ll get it again in the future. But I’m thinking of getting the live II first.. we’ll see
I Iove my my Live 2 as well. I returned my MPC one and settle for the live 2. Its easy to turn it on and off without worrying about the cables and battery. It's the real PORTABLE machine.
MPC Live 2 all day everyday. I like the extra tactile button functions on the other machines. But who needs them if you gotta wait to get back to the studio/or home to cook?
The MPC Live 2 was perfect for me. I still can’t believe the internal battery and how good the speakers are, I play it anywhere in the house, upstairs or downstairs
Great video! I sold my Live II and regretting it although have a Key 61 on the way. Will buy another Live II as I think having both is a good balance between the studio and portability.
MPC One! Love the form factor. I'm flying tomorrow on low-cost and it fits in my backpack with portable speakers. Doesn't take too much space on my studio deck either. Love it so much :))
Great video. I would love all 3. But I have my sights on the X and Live 2 for exactly what they were meant for. It will be a big jump for me, from an MPC2000 to today's MPC.
MPC has it on the hardware and software, Maschine still has it on the sounds and plugin sound quality. I have an MPC Live 1 and Live 2, and the Maschine+, and I can tell you hands down, the Maschine+ just sounds amazing, the stock plugins and expansions are cutting edge. If NI just released a comparable piece of hardware (touch screen, modernize the UI, allow Kontakt libraries), they would force Akai to step up their software game. Air also needs to port Xpand 2 to standalone MPC, and Akai needs to open up the software to allow more than 8 plugins. I know this isnt a comparison between NI and Akai, but I feel like it needs to be mentioned. I dont have the MPCX, I cant justify the 50% price difference for additional knobs and buttons, a 10 inch (vs 7 inch) tiltable display, and a little extra IO. The expanded hard drive support is a must for me, I have almost every Akai expansion and my own collections I have purchased and sampled and using an sdcard isnt going to cut it. The MPC 3.0 software changes everything for me, as a person who uses the MPC for what it was not intended for, linear writing is absolutely a must for me. Not that it wasnt possible with v2, v3 brings linear track writing to the forefront and I feel like makes the MPC a tool for serious musicians who write full fledge songs that dont just involve track mutes and minor adjustments to each sequence, because, I use my MPC to sketch orchestral musical ideas on the go. Not to detract from people doing "beats", that takes it own specal skill, the MPC could be so much more than just a "beat machine" and v3 firmware is a step in that direction. For people doing orchestration, imagine an MPC Keys 88 with realistic strings, brass, winds, and orchestral percussion, in standalone mode. There is no keyboard on the market with the capability of a DAW, and Akai now has something very, very close. The closest thing, and it isnt even close, is the Yamaha Motif XF series of keyboards...
Should I buy a akai mpc61 or get the s61 NI with komplete 14....or should I wait for NAMM for a new release? Just starting as a producer but I do know a thing or two with fl studio and all. Just iffy on what to get.
I wouldn't buy anything NI in 2023, the support is piss poor, the software development is glacial, and they've got new owners, the LA office just closed, and they're fast on the way to becoming just a brand.

Man, I got the Fantom 06 a couple of weeks ago, and I just don't know. The sounds are quality, but the workflow is lacking. I wanted to use it with the MPC One, which I can do, but I wanted it to be like the MPC One as a standalone workstation, but it is nothing like the MPC One, and the drum kits are just not up to par, so I'm twisted on what to do? Hey Bolo, I don't know if you will answer, but when you are on the Roland Fantom 06, and you know how you go to save the tones/sounds, because you want to save the sound effects of the tone, you have to put it in a user slot. Why in the hell would Roland do such a thing? Why not just have a write button, or when you press write and save a scene, it saves the whole pattern and sounds? But if you go to another pattern, and you want to use the same sound where you saved sound effects to it, and you overwrite it in a new pattern, it will not be saved the same way for the last pattern? It will overwrite the sound on all patterns. I just don't understand what they we're thinking with this at all. Ya know, what happens when the user slots are filled, and you go to save that patch? Then, it is going to overwrite the effects that you've applied on that sound patch. It makes no sense at all. Do you know if any updates have fixed this, or what they give you in the newer updates, because I haven't updated it yet, but I'm sure it won't fix this issue. I was just wondering what your feedback would be on this?...SBN RESONATE
No updates that I know of.. I sequence all of my Fantom beats with MPC. Once I’m done I simply save scene with same name as project I made it with in MPC. Much simpler that way.
I have the MPC one plus and studio 2. Question I have is .. are the oars on the 61 key the same size as the MPC one or a little bigger but smaller than the MPC X ? I love the one plus but not a fan of the little pads. I do love the touch strip tho for hi hats on the MPC studio 2 so would love that on standalone
Just got my key 61 and holy shit if it had a battery. I wouldn’t need to use daw ever again. I can just plug into a guitar amp and start looping instruments. Best way to make backing tracks.
How do you get the Mpc61 and the Mpc Renaissance to work together. The Renaissance is just a controller I don’t get what I can’t get it to work with the 61
Hi Bolo and grazie very much for your nice and useful videos. I have a question about Mpc products by Akai. Which of these machines can be used with interna sounds while using a midi file internally. I am using roland fa 07 but just as sequencer and not as keyboard and i would like to use mpc but with own sounds. And di you know if the quality of these sounds is as high as that of roland fa? Is it possible to load new patches that can be used by internal sequencer in a midi file play? Thanks a lot ciao
If Akai would just make a version that is a blend of the MPC one and MPC live2 (with more ram and a faster processor) that would be a winner. I like the form of the MPC one (size, buttons, and layout). It is just missing the ability to add SSD internal memory. More menu diving and clicking just sucks.I love the MPC X, I just see no real down side to it. The layout of the MPC X is awesome. No SD card no deal for me, so i don't even care about an MPC with keys!
Great video mate, I have the MPC X, and I just can't use the workflow, it is just too difficult compared to Roland MPC's that I have. Additionally there's no Kensington lock to keep it in place, and you can only record a max 3 minutes of Vocals lyrics which is just insane!!! unless an update has changed that, so I dumped this back in the box after a month, ready for the tip..
I got 3 too, well 4 if you include the live 1 which I plan to sell with along with my MPK261. I feel like 3 is too much but I don't know if I should also get rid of the live 2 or the X🤦🏾♂️
The best MPC out of the current ones is the MPC One. It does every one of the basic functions that the X/Live/Live II do. But it currently costs less than $700 new. Plus its the best of both worlds. More portable than the Live/Live II will ever be and it has a lot of buttons like an MPC should.
it doesnt have wifi or bluetooth which is useful if u wanna connect a ipad to it and use ios music apps no ssd drive bay no built in battery or speakers and smaller pads but it does have more buttons than a live 2 and it is still a very capable device but does lack in some areas
@@DETERMINOLOGY I owe them. Advantages are in workflow. I prefer mpc one than a live because of button shortcuts. However, there's better performance and other extras the others come with. But the best of all worlds for me in compact for is the ONe
I have all three and in theory that sounds true but I have learned differently from each unit especially the live and live ll. When I first got the X it was a bit daunting (and I’ve been an Mpc user since the 60). After flipping on the live, I really love my X.
Never said you can’t learn or have fun, you can learn and have fun from 3 different mpcs, 3 different macs, 3 different romplers, and 3 different lambos but there is also a Sense of redundancy to many of the things mentioned on this list. It goes with out saying if you love all 3 of your things, by all means have a blast, but to a little kid or even a big kid new to the game, that kid should know he doesn’t need 3 mpcs or 5 macs or 7 range rovers if he can’t afford the cost of entry. My comment was only for those who fit the shoe and can’t afford 3 mpcs. Respect
depends on how u look at it and if u got the cash and its your thing they all have different uses its like having a desktop a laptop and a Ipad/tablet you probably can make due with just one of those devices
The Keys are such a missed opportunity. It could have been a generational improvement. It ended up being a marginally better product than what is currently on the market
LIVE 2 WINS AGAIN... FACTS, C'Mon Peoples. Isn't The Purpose Of Being A Producer Means That You Need To Produce Product? The Portability, Quality, And Functionality Of This MPC LIVE 2 Is Truly A Dream Come True... And Now That You Can Update And Download Plugins Via Wifi, Lets Be Serious... The 2500 Cannot Do That. I Would Go Out On A Limb To Say That The MPC LIVE 2 Is The Greatest Portable Musical Instrument Of ALL TIME, PERIODTAH ! 😁
The X is my baby, Live2 is dope but too small for me. Haven't used the Keys yet but I will get one used when I see a good price. I'm waiting on the Keys 2
@@HammyHavoc That's very true but grooveboxes are still a great physical relic to honor famous artists. A good way to educate about great people in history has always been by showing their personal tools and belongings. And a hardware MPC simply looks more interesting in a cultural museum than a copy of Ableton Live or FL Studio.
@@Drrolfski Whilst I do agree, what's a tune or score in the last decade done on a modern-day MPC that's been as culturally impactful in a massively different approach to music as anything prior to Akai going bust in the '00s? And furthermore, could they have been done with any controller combined with a DAW? I think what made the original MPCs so special is Roger Linn's commitment to making them electronic instruments (read the manual for the MPC 3000 in particular, that's quite interesting to know what the intent was with the idea of an "MPC 3000ist" like a violinist), but now DAWs have overlapped the groovebox space so strongly, and gone far beyond it in a lot of cases. The "next big thing" in terms of relics are going to be ideas like the Linnstrument, and anything in general that allows escaping 12TET more easily to experiment with other scales and do genuinely new stuff. Whilst I'm no hater by any means and actually mulling over buying a modern-day MPC (but unsure prior to NAMM as rumour mill says new MPC stuff), it does admittedly rub me the wrong way that Akai as-is won't even cut Roger Linn a cheque, and none of the original team are involved. Sure, it's objectively good, but it's missing stuff that made the MPC 4000 interesting like a modulation matrix. Updates are much more frequent than anything Native Instruments are doing with Maschine too. Currently a very frustrated Maschine MK3 and Jam user; can't even record pad mutes like MPCs of 20+ years ago!
@@HammyHavoc Regardless of your personal experiences, preferences, and developments in music production there will always be a need to educate people by displaying music production hardware. Whether it be a synthesizer museum or EDM/Hiphop exhibition or museum, or heck, even an MPC exhibition. For sure, the current generation of MPCs isn't nearly as influential as the early MPCs but they're successful enough to eventually end up in some exhibition.

With the mpc61 you are getting 500$ vst's
I Love the X, but to me, it feels like everything that is on the right side, should be on the left, everything on the left, should be on the right! 😅
What's a "Roland MPC"?
@@HammyHavoc Roland MPC’s such as MV-verselab , MC-101 and MC-707
akai has changed the game!!!! everything you need they have on the beat machines!!!!
Love my one. Almost sent it back and grabbed a live 2 but I’m just gonna get an adapter for Bluetooth midi.
Hell naw, Bolo got triplets... (3 MPC's) 4sho!
I got 3 too, well 4 if you include the live 1 which I plan to sell with along with my MPK261. I feel like 3 is too much but I don't know if I should also get rid of the live 2 or the X🤦🏾♂️
Give me a MPC Touch anyday... I like messing with computers... and its cheap !
I’m an XR user personally 😎
Bolo u sound like u know something about the next new MPC, common Man 😁
The best mpc is ensoniq asr10)))
😂
I want a mpc now
Live 2 rocks
Live 2 all day everyday I have the X as well and it just sits there like a huge paperweight.
Can’t you please make a video on the 2500/1000 sound comparison 🫡🇨🇦🔥
When I had the 1000 and the 2500 I didn’t hear a difference
MPC One is the best
I was just wondering bolo the producer Is it possible to upgrade the memory on the X and the live 2 ?
You can add storage if you mean "memory", but the RAM is part of a SoC, so no, you can't upgrade it like on older units.
Never seen the keyboard before. Shit is fire!1
You somethin' else, Bolo!
That mpc keys61 is all u need.
Any giveaways my guy!?
When you have all 3 kids, you love them the same😂
True!!!
Mpc one simply for the price n u can do the exact same as all the rest
True… I would have did a video with it. But I don’t own one
❤Live 2❤
live 2 is the best device ever!
They are all the same but with different connectivity, memory and sizes.
Def, not the same. If they the same then the live would have "ALL" the buttons mpc one or + has which isnt true
Someone under a rock
@@DETERMINOLOGY I owe them. Advantages are in workflow. I prefer mpc one than a live because of button shortcuts. However, there's better performance and other extras the others come with. But the best of all worlds for me in compact for is the ONe
Mpc X
Having 3 Mpcs is Redundant, kind of like having 3 different Rolls Royce’s… it’s cool but not very utilitarian and necessary.

Agreed
If i had the money, i would buy all...
10:11 BRUH .... Dem InMusic Perks too good... Dont Play...... I SAW DAT!
The X is my baby, Live2 is dope but too small for me. Haven't used the Keys yet but I will get one used when I see a good price. I'm waiting on the Keys 2
Mpc X.
The X gonna give it em
MPC Live 2 owner here. I think this device will end up in some museum, J Dilla style.
Nah, I think we're finally able to realize that it's not the devices that are special, but the people who use them and what they create.
I want the X but I want my 2500 back more.
