A military court in DR Congo's volatile east sentenced 22 soldiers to death on Monday for "fleeing the enemy" during fighting with M23 rebels. Sixteen soldiers were handed death sentences in one, and six others in a separate case in the North Kivu province. Last week, a court sentenced 25 soldiers to death in a similar judgment. The sentences have been handed as the m23 rebels week seized new terrain on the northern front of the conflict that has been ongoing for two-and-a-half years in the North Kivu province. As per a new UN report, The Ugandan army has provided support to the M23 rebel group operating in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
