  • I left Cavan Town in 1955. In 2000 I stood on the Gallows Hill overlooking the town and was inspired to write this poem. I added myself playing harmonica as background music to my recitation. The piece of music I'm playing is an Irish slow air called 'Sé Fáth mo Bhuartha' - The Cause of my Sorrow. Seemed appropriate.

My Dad would of loved this. He was Christy Dunne from Ballinagh. Brought a tears to my listening. My Dads good friend passed away on the 22nd of January. His name was Gerry Nulty. My Auntie Tina Kenny put this on Facebook. So glad to hear & see it.

Thank you so much I really enjoyed it. Lots of memories to share I liked the ice cream in Katy Bannios's she was a funny old duck. Would you think of doing a talk on the old characters that roamed the town. The music is also haunting. Hope to share it around and keep as part of my childhood. Good luck
