I love my Legion Go. The only issues for me were Lenovo's pride getting in the way of GPU drivers. Now that they gave in, no more issues. Bigger screen, better resolution, faster refresh, and detachable controllers are everything I wanted. Keep up the praise for the Legion GO Matt!!
According to them, they needed to do their own drivers to mostly seamlessly handle a native portrait display, and now that the new releases will have native landscape displays, they don't have to have their own custom driver anymore.
I'm one of those freaks that said "fuck it, I'm gonna install Linux instead of upgrading to Windows 11" and from what I've learnt, it's good developers publish games with the compatibility for Proton instead of native ports. You can take Black Mesa for example. I've played native version and it was a buggy mess, but under Proton it works flawlessly. Windows is such a big spaghetti code mess that running Linux with Proton compensates the performance (and in some cases it works even better). My only wish would be to have developers stop pushning intrusive anticheat software and then no native support for Linux still would not be a problem
It's more that devs will invest in making the game "work" for Windows. While Linux still makes up a small number of their player base that it's not worth doing extensive QA and bug fixing for Linux.
Yeah it's crazy how often the big guy has no idea what he's talking about. He's clueless about Nintendo in general and clueless about the state of hardware at the moment. Austin having to explain that for the last 5 minutes was hard to watch.
Austin is right about lowering the power or at least adding software support to slow down these chips. The biggest reason that the OG GameBoy sold so well was it's 20-30 hours before swapping batteries compared to other devices of the time. The less time I need to be attached to the wall the better especially for things like long car rides or flights.
I don't have much in great expectations of Microsoft "fixing Windows on the handheld". Why? MS spend years and years seemingly sitting on their arse with many current issues with Windows. MS need to do more than just a big picture mode. They need a lot of additional things running in the background like a comparable to Gamescope to make the handheld gaming experience as a "it just works" sort of thing.
Exactly, they make money on the store, not the device. 100% why other devices are getting SteamOS, Valve is working on a new VR Headset I believe with SteamOS installed according to datamines. The Deck 2 is a ways out so it makes sense to sell it from 3rd party's and undercut the cost of the Windows License. Depends right now how badly you want to play COD right now on the go until Valve and Anti-Cheat devs can figure out how to get Kernal-Level Anti-Cheat working at least on SteamOS. Most handhelds that can play COD or Valorant anyway are WAY more expensive then any of the SteamOS handhelds and I think Austin and Matt really overlooked this. It's comparing sub $399 systems to ones almost $900!!
@@arcadeportal32 There hasn’t been an official sniffle or smirk of a Deck 2, a lot of this being because the Deck team on its own is a very small team and comprises of people who work on certain sectors of the device and OS. Even though you make the point of Windows and COD + Valorant. The real matter of things is, it boils down to a point of accessibility. The biggest thing being, Windows handhelds still can’t seem to separate themselves from the “console-like laptop” label, Windows being difficult to use on most of them, and proper support. Until Windows handhelds shake this off, they’ll remain a niche. I agree, Valve needs to work with anti-cheat devs, though it’s highly frowned upon in the Unix/Linux community to allow vulnerable kernel level access due to security risks. So this feat will continue to be a trial and error fever issue until Valve can sort it out. I assume going forward Valve will take in and make more revenue based on learning algorithms with other devices throughout allowing their OS to be accessible on all devices. People who don’t want that can always go down the route of choosing their own distro and using the tools available to build the SteamOS accessibility, driver support, and compatibility themselves as kits for this already exist. Ultimately, I think $900+ devices will remain a major niche unless someone truly craves a specific title. I’m just waiting for official SteamOS release for my Anbernic WIN600, as it’ll allow for me to play a lot more stuff without relying purely on Bazzite. This is what I’m more excited for. Lower end devices getting official support and bigger benefits.
Austin is 100% on point. Steam Deck already runs games fine, and it is built on tech 2 generations old. A new Zen 5 + RDNA 4 based APU, built for Steam Deck performance, could easily be put in a device that is pocketable, and truly portable. A Steam Deck sized device on a current chipset, with PCIe 5.0, would be nearing PS5 levels of performance.
You can...its called Bazzite OS. Its based on SteamOS that is in the handheld. Bassite is fork of Steam OS (yes its legal because of how Linux shares code).
@brokeandtired _sigh_ You should work on your comprehension skills. The video talked about how Valve is developing SteamOS to work on any handheld. Bazzite is not being developed by Valve, which was the point of my comment: I'd like it if Valve developed SteamOS for any PC, not just handhelds.
@@TheZoenGaming im using bazzite on my htpc. it boots into gamemode just like steamos because bazzite is made to be just like steamos. that means it is a console and a pc. i also have bazzite on my steam deck, which is a handheld. bazzite can be installed on any pc. it is functionally the same as steamos, with some more improvements.
@@TheZoenGaming "Bazzite is not being developed by Valve"........ Steam OS is not developed by Valve either. Both operating systems are developed by the entire Linux community, of which Valve are a small part of.
I personally love the idea of windows handhelds better cause then it also doubles as a personal computer. You can have it docked into desktop peripherals and use it normally then unplug it from a dock when you need to use controller or take with you somewhere. The Nintendo switch aspect of windows handhelds are so appealing
guys: the PROBLEM IS NOT the hardware. The problem is, the developers are not optimizing games for slower/lower performance devices. Everyone expects the greatness of a full size 4k display with ultra realistic graphics, fitting in your hands on a 8-9 inch oled display. We are a decade away from that, minimum. so I would say, until better hardware can be developed, software mfrs need to tone down the specs of the game. Look at world of warcraft. when it came out, you could play it on a p3 with 256 megs of ram and an agp card, and it was good looking and ran well on that hardware. as time passed they improved the game for better graphics and added things to make it smoother or more realistic looking, yet, ppl STILL want to play the classic version, the way it once looked, back on the p3 hardware. Games need to be built for mid tier hardware that has been out for at least 5 years already. If players need better definition, then shader packs or etc can be installed for a slight upcharge, say 5 bucks, and get rtx tracing and finer details and other optimizations for heftier machines.
I almost got a legion go. Took the plunge for Christmas on a smoked steam deck and it’s amazing. I’m new to Linux but I love it. It’s not as complicated as you’d think. You don’t have the dang one drive pop ups and issues. The bios is clean. The plug in are great. I can’t say enough great things about the steam deck. I was expecting it to be heavier however I find it quite light. It’s been the solution for gaming I’ve spent years looking for.
@@valg.3152 EA online games, especially the newer ones have an anti cheat that doesn't support linux. So the only option for those kind of games unfortunately are either a streaming service that has that particular game or play it under windows.
@@potentiallycatastrophic You mean YT Premium, but point stands, and it's great on my tablet, TV, etc.. that can't use an adblock. Also there are 3rd party ways to do it, but I can't list them here without my comment being blocked.
Anyone that actually knows Valve knows that Valve doesn't do mass market. They do the things they want in a capacity that allows them to see it through. They then get bored and leave it up to the community to continue. Their end goal isn't to be the leader for handhelds. They just want you to use their OS on them. Hardware is hard and not profitable unless you're doing mass market. Valve makes far more from Steam, and that is what they will continue to innovate. Steam will, one day a PC and console like platform. Steam Deck really helped them realize this direction. I'm a console gamer but am really intrigued now at the prospect of having an ecosystem that works everywhere that allows you to game as complex or as easy as you want to.
As far as I know, all of Valves first party hardware is still supported by them, and their older games, while not getting as many updates anymore, still get compatibility improvements so they run well on newer hardware. Also, a lot of what Valve does isn't exactly niesh. Maybe not global market sensations, but if you've been invested into gaming for any extended period of time, and Valve dose something, everyone hears about it.
You can always put the Steam Deck into offline mode, I do not believe it checks again for ownership of your games as long as you logged in at least once. You can play GOG versions of Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim and other games on it too using the Heroic app in Desktop Mode..
@arcadeportal32 But to have all three elder Scrolls Titles All the dlc for all three and the 3 fables with all dlc on one offline device with save file space?
@squirrelzstreamz You can put up to a 2TB SSD in the Steam Deck and a 1TB Micro SD. With 3TB of space, you should be good to go. The Steam Deck is pretty much a fully user repair/mod friendly system. Buy the cheapest Steam Deck, then buy the storage. There are a lot of videos online on how to upgrade to storage yourself and save a lot of money.
@squirrelzstreamz You can put in 2TB inside the Steam Deck. It is cheaper to buy the lowest Steam Deck and upgrade the storage yourself, which is pretty straightforward with tutorials..
I have always thought that MS could go either direction with handhelds. If they do end up going the direction of making a version of windows 11 specific towards a handheld where they get with there hardware partners and release them that they would make a surface handheld and not an Xbox. There are really only two ways that I could see that happening. Personally, what I think you could see if MS doesn't want to make traditional consoles anymore than why not make a gaming focused form of windows that you could run on any device giving you an experience similar to an Xbox but the it still being a full windows pc. I could actually see it getting to the point where the surface and Xbox teams are merged with the Xbox surface. With it instead being a console having it be a prebuilt gaming tower in the form factor of a series x for around the same price which I think would be an interesting proposition and would fit with what seems to be MS approach seems to be going towards. It would also still allow them to making gaming hardware that could compete with a PlayStation, while offering more options to consumers and providing users with more use cases for the hardware. I think that's a big reason why things like the switch and steam deck have been so successful because for the price they offer a lot of practical use cases.
The release of OG Windows 8 was a dumpster fire having to install 3rd party programs just to get a normal start menu back, & it took Windows 8.1 to make it more usable for a normal desktop, and laptop. So I'd say Windows 7 was the last good OS from MS, and Win 10 in 2015 was the last straw for me to make the full Linux switch, and it's been an overall good experience using AMD, and Intel hardware.
*SEGA* I believe Nintendo is better than Sega in both hardware and software but I think Sega caters more to my taste. If you have children, I can understand preferring Nintendo over Sega. Nintendo appeals to the widest audience possible. But Sega really speaks to me who doesn’t have kids. They cater to the hardcore gamers. Look at all these Sega games I’m going to play on my Steam Deck these next few months…. Shenmue Shenmue II Shenmue III (I beat it twice but will plat it) Yakuza: Like a Dragon Sonic Superstars Sonic X Shadow Generations I love that Sega style. They also have this underdog mentality since the Saturn/Dreamcast days I also really love. I miss prime Sega very much. I hope they reboot Shinobi III for us if they’re planning to do the same for their other classic titles like Jet Grind Radio and Golden Axe. Planning to buy a Sega shirt on AliExpress. Sega rocks! Perhaps becoming my all-favorite game developer surpassing Square, Namco, Sony, Nintendo, and Capcom. Sega hits the right nerve for me. They still have that Japanese quirkiness of Nintendo but then Sega doesn’t care if their characters in Yakuza drop f bombs. I own the Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP/Vita and Switch. Sega can remake so many titles in their deep stable from Alex Kidd, Kid Chameleon, Vectorman, Ristar, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, and Comix Zone. Then their arcade racing games like OutRun, Daytona USA, Sega Rally, and Scud Race. Sega’s good games shouldn’t be known for only Sonic. Sega and Nintendo are like mom and pop stores. They’re purer game developers than Sony and Microsoft who are more like those big corporations trying to swallow up all the mom and pop stores. Sony really doesn’t develop their own games. They rely on better relationships than Nintendo when it comes to third-party support. Sony then buys studios like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica and then brands them under their Sony Entertainment umbrella. Sega is probably even more purer than Nintendo in video games. Nintendo didn’t start off as a gaming company. They started with playing cards back in the 1800s and attempted other industries including toy maker prior to Game and Watch and Donkey Kong. Sega next to Namco created this arcade game in the 1960s called Periscope. Service Games is even more OG in gaming than Nintendo is. When Nintendo focused on making games for their home consoles, they let Sega and Namco battle it out in the arcades during the 80s and 90s. Namco winning it in the 80s thanks to a classic like Pac-Man while Sega winning it in the 90s as Namco ended up copying everything Sega did. Sega did copy Namco’s Pole Position. Namco copied Sega with similar looking arcade games in the 90s…. *Sega* *vs.* *Namco* Virtua Racing / Daytona USA - Ridge Racer Virtua Fighter - Tekken Virtua Cop / House of the Dead - Time Crisis My only complaint about Sega is they can do a little too much that they lose focus. They tried doing too much by supporting Genesis, Game Gear, Sega-CD, 32X, Saturn, and Nomad, and look where it got them? Gamers were lost and confused. One of my only complaints about Yakuza: Like a Dragon is too many unnecessary sub-plots similar to FF7 Remake. Feels padded and then I will lose focus on the main story because I ended up playing for hours doing other minor stuff. Sega doesn’t know how to keep it short and simple like Nintendo does. With all that said, I do miss the old Sega. The 90s Sega was probably the most innovative game developer in hardware and software of all-time. Beyond what Nintendo did by having four controller ports, Rumble Pak, and an analog stick. Love it or hate it, Shenmue is a very revolutionary game. If Sega ever came out with another handheld, I would buy it a heartbeat. I miss owning Sega hardware. A cooler brand than Nintendo and a better game developer than Sony and Microsoft. SEGA! *Legion* *Go* *S* With the Switch 2 going to be announced in 2 days, it got me thinking about the Steam Deck 2? Then I saw the Legion Go S which will have SteamOS and a Z1 Extreme option, that’s already the Steam Deck 2 to me! Lenovo finally made a Steam Deck 2 to stay on par to the ROG Ally X and Legion Go. This would put a SteamOS handheld closer to a base PS5 in teraflops. Then add more efficiency from SteamOS compared to Windows 11 which I read is at least 20% more efficient. I only wish Lenovo added some touchpads as I find the right one extremely useful when trying to emulate Wii games. But this to me looks like the Steam Deck 2 only manufactured and branded by Lenovo. It looks to me like Valve is becoming more like Microsoft / Google in which they will license or give away their OS for free. It makes sense as they’re more a software / service company than a hardware company. Pixel phones might be from Google but Samsung remains the most popular OEM when it comes to Android. *Switch* *2* I predict Red Dead Redemption 2 and Final Fantasy VII Remake will be launch day titles for the Switch 2 and the unit will be priced at $399. You can get the first ROG Ally with Z1 Extreme for $100 more at Best Buy right now. I believe the Switch 2 will have about 1.4 to 1.8 teraflops in the same range as the Xbox One, Steam Deck, and base PlayStation 4. The Z1 Extreme is at 8.6, higher than the PS4 Pro. The Nintendo fanboys will go crazy for that next [insert your favorite Nintendo IP here]. That next Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros., Pokémon, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Country, Kirby, whatever…. Then the haters will say how the Switch 2 looks like a bigger Switch OLED. How Nintendo is just rehashing the same old shit again similar to smartphone makers like Samsung and Apple making the latest phones look redundant. If you’re going to play FF7 *Rebirth,* it’s likely not going to play well on a Deck or Switch 2. You may need a handheld like the Legion Go S with SteamOS to achieve this. Sell your Ally X to get that $599 Legion Go S with SteamOS and Z1E. The announcements from CES are making the handheld market crowded. Reminds me of the 5th Gen when the 3DO, Jaguar, and Amiga CD32 came out in 1993, years before Saturn, PS1, and N64 did. There’s tons of different options to play games. It’s not 2017 anymore. Nintendo does excel in that one area that no other game developer does. Nintendo makes simple and addictive gameplay. They don’t bombard you with complicated controls and stories. Ever since the first Super Mario game back in 1985, they mastered how to give young gamers that dopamine kick. There are sounds from a slot machine every time Mario or Luigi gets coins. That’s a dopamine kick in your head when you hear sounds like that. Similar to a gambler playing the slots. There’s a sense of accomplishment that you keep yearning for. And Super Mario games are generally easy to pick up and play. You never want a game to be too hard that it pisses a *casual* gamer off. Nintendo wants to appeal to young gamers because they’re planting those “nostalgic” seeds in their heads. See, while Sega is more niche and more for the hardcores, Nintendo tries to capture as many demographics as possible especially younger gamers because they know 30-35 years later, people like JD Coffee will talk about Nintendo with a sense of wonder and nostalgia. “Nintendo raised me, la-di-da.”
Given Proton, and the ability to load other Linux apps, I'd be interested to see one of you use SteamOS as a daily driver for a period of time once they have it fully released.
I agree with Austin on the fact that the machines only lasting an hour or so sucks but he doesn't realize how much performance will be sacrificed for a smaller device simply due to devs that don't optimize games at all.
idk much about software design but why can’t they just make an xbox app like skin for windows? cause i’ve played cloud gaming on my phone and use the xbox app layout and it’s clean. how hard would it be to make something like that for windows handhelds specifically and have it work with steam and xbox games
Just get it now because Valve's hardware is always leaked in their datamined code. The only hardware coming soon are Deckard, Roy, and Fremont. Deckard is a standalone SteamVR headset running x86 PC games. Roy is the new pair of VR controllers. Fremont is a home console. Steam Deck 2 is not coming any time soon, you are safe to get the OG or OLED
@@KingsNJenssons+1 on that. Plus rumors about the deckard "coming soon" have been floating around for 2 years now. Not that I'm not excited for it but deck 2 is probably not a priority for them right now
I 100% agree with Matt. The sole reason i haven't move to steam os (or any linux distros) is because the game i play required anti-cheat to work. Its really a shame that linux dont support that.
The unfortunate thing is that it’s the developers/publishers who make the call. All they have to do is update their servers and anticheat to allow for Linux to talk to them. And they don’t.
I said that about XP... Then 7... Then 10... Seems like the best OS skips a generation. Win 12 will probably be better than 11. Putting WinVR support back would be an idea.
Genuinely looking forward to loading SteamOS onto my desktop sometime (hopefullly) this year. I know Bazzite is already available, and I've already moved across from Windows to Linux, using the steam deck (and docking it when I had to go away for a couple months) opened my eyes to how much I really needed windows.
what i like to see a Handheld with a dual boot switch, so you will have 2 SSD one with Windows and one with Steam OS, and a physical switch on the handheld like on GPU with dual bios...
Does anyone else agree that 'This Is' content is so easily binge worthy? Id rather have their megavids on instead of a movie or tv the majority of my evenings XD
I like to binge This Is because it's entertaining enough to keep playing in the background, but not important enough that I feel the need to actually pay attention.
It's really like it never existed for me because Valve is one of the only storefronts I've ever encountered that geoblocks their physical products. Even though I have a US address that I can ship stuff to Valve just literally doesn't let you. Because of Valve's company structure, they can't really sell stuff on Amazon. So for me, I'll have to get a different SteamOS handheld like the Legion Go S. Or I could chance it with a used Steam Deck from Ebay
Steam deck for sure im also a ps user and im trying to build a pc atm but i got a steam deck for Christmas and I love it i got the steam deck old 500gb (or something)
Honestly, I am 100% a fan of the ROG Ally Windows is great for playing all PC games and watching movies/browsing the internet, but you do need to know how to tinker with settings not everything runs smooth on stock settings coming from nothing but console steam deck would be more user friendly it's plug and play (for steam games) really it's impossible to suggest one or the other it's the pc version of Xbox vs Playstation...😂
If you want the best console experience on a handheld, the Steam Deck for under $399 or the upcoming Lenovo Go S SteamOS edition for $499 is it. If you NEED to play COD on the go and have money to burn you can get something like an Ally X for $900 and deal with Windows, OneDrive popups, and turning of a page worth of telemetry on a Handheld to reduce the bloat. Even if Windows made a launcher before launching Windows, your probably going to need a Microsoft account to use it and they 100% will sell you data like they just got your soul for free, and is just more bloat imo...
Don't overspend, just get the base model Steam Deck, & add a 512GB MicroSD card so you don't have to uninstal, and reinstall your games/and apps all the time running out of space.
@arcadeportal32 you don't have to get the x, the starting ally goes on sale every other week for the same price as the starter steamdeck I've also never had one drive popups on mine then if you use a gaming email to setup everything like a normal person should on anything gaming related including your steam account you won't be handing out "personal data" ... but I do get being a fanboy or girl for something you're passionate about. That's why I said in my response that it's the pc version of Xbox and PlayStation and I'm here for it that's why I made the correct choice and got an Ally so I could enjoy Gog and Epic games along side my steam games!😝
ive been running steamOS on my 2022 ROG Zephyrus for about a month and I have had zero issues been using it for work and gaming and you have to love an OS that just works. been getting updates and it nativly sees the correct power limits in the menus. gotta say when they get it to run with nvidia drivers ill move my main rig over
Congratulations on hitting the 200k That's an incredible growth from 14k in just a few months - what strategies or investments did you implement to achieve this remarkable success?
Hello, did you achieve such biweekly returns? I'm a newbie and I've lost a lot of money investing on my own. Please how do I go about it, the year has just started how can I make profit?
You're correct!! I make a lot of money without relying on the government. Investing in stocks, BTC, and XRP and digital currencies is beneficial at this moment.
As a it is essential that you have a mentor to help you stay accountable. In my case, Ann Marie strunk has guided me for months and I highly recommend her. I focus on her. To be honest, I'm almost hesitant to let someone take charge of growing my finances, but I'm so glad I did.
im so happy that valve made the steam deck because i switched to the penguin years ago and i had a low power pc for the longest time and this bad boy caught my eye because i suck at building pcs but in the feature ima practice so i can get better but the steam deck caught my eye and it had steam os aka ( arch linux) and i falled in love with it and got it on a black friday sell. i bought it from valve because i love them so much and i support them what they are doing for linux even tho they are obv doing it for money but at least they care about gameing more thing microsoft (on the windows side) and tbh i started hatein windows after 7 cuz i didnt like how bloated and slow there os was
They will NEVER do that, that is how they make 90% of there money is in data collection & ads. The other 10% is in the Windows Licensing Fee the either get from you, a seller, or the system builder...
Why is it most RUclipsrs are skipping their ver the fact the windows version has more ssd and ram then the steam os version. That’s reason the steam os one is cheaper not cause steam
Yes the Steam Deck is efficient but so can the Legion Go as well. The Legion Go, with disabling some cores which don't help 90 percent of gaming and speeds up gpu, and lowing RAM speed to the same of Steam Deck and you get the same efficiency of the Steam Deck. I just like that I have the option to tone down my Legion Go if that's what's needed when away from an outlet. Lowering screen to 1200p, 1050p, and even 900p or 800p, also adds to efficiency on top of the previous stated changes. That's why I chose the Legion. Options. Detachable controllers included. Options. That's also why I have a 2280 nvme adapter and an 8tb nvme drive for everything that may be needed on my Legion Go. The other great coming option is that the new Legion Go 2 controllers will be backwards compatible with Legion Go and will be able to be purchased for the original. Options.
Most of the games that I have are free from epic games since I barely paid for any games from steam. When it comes to pc gaming, I wait for the games that I want to download and play to be free from epic games. For consoles, I only buy and support the physical copies of the games. I'm not losing any money from epic games that's why I go the epic games route. For consoles, I can still play the games when they are gone permanently compared to the xbox 360 digital library and the games that affect all the digital libraries when the games are removed from the digital libraries permanently.
FYI I've had native SteamOS on the more powerful version of the Z2Go (6800hs has more cores and higher TDP) Getting updates and betas directly from valve is great, also things like bazzite tent to run into, I wouldn't say more issues, I'd say different issues. Because this hardware is not officially supported I have issues with things like sleep, and expecting the presence of steam buttons from the steamdeck, but bazzite which I have on a 7840hs often runs into more problems running games than Steam OS does I was really hoping this cut down version of the 6800hs in the Z2Go would mean we'd get a handheld with 24gb of RAM for like $500 since it is 3 years old now and cut down to the same core count as the Ryzen 3 line
While official SteamOS will be great for the guys rocking a AMD GPU. Bazzite has quietly dropped a new beta for the "Deck Version" for those using a Nvidia GTX 16XX & RTX cards (or better) using Nvidia's new open source drivers. Still buggy as heck, but hey once they get the bugs worked out then any newer machine can run it regardless of GPU (well mostly). Nvidia will not release a open source driver for cards below the Turing series GPUs. Most likely to prevent people from hanging on to their old cards.
I think its great we will have more options on devices we can buy to play our games. Yes I have a steam deck (hubby has hundreds of games on steam) and I have an anbernic device for retro games. Dont need anything else for the moment.. but in the future I will see what is around :)
I have a legion go with steam big picture mode what would be the benefits of running steam os ? I feel like windows gives the best or both worlds. Or what am I missing with steam os vs windows or on a legion go
I don’t even understand the Switch comparison. A Switch is its own thing. But PC handhelds are for playing your PC library. The niche use case where you need the thing to fit into your pocket has always seemed silly to me. I play on the Ally when the room with my computer is busy. Or during a flight. Battery life and performance are way more important than size.
Austin my dear. The kind of chip you are asking for doesn't exist for the price you are saying. What you are describing is snapdragon 8 elite. Its got pretty much equivalent geekbench score as to z1e. Guess how much that cost? US$240 for just the chip.
I dont think mobile subscription of xbox live works or will be accepted in any way like steam os. the main appeal of a desktop pc has always been "NO ONLINE FEE" plus its generally about $20 cheaper than the console counterpart.
Another thing is arm cpus. Linux is way more prepared to handle arm cpus than windows. So with the upcoming nvdia cpus and other future arm cpus with their efficiency steamos will have the edge.
It's still absolutely insane that in 2025 we accept a device way too big to fit in a pocket with only 3 hours of battery life. This is the entire reason why the Game Boy won over consoles like the Game Gear: Better battery life and portability.
If you could just pay for a license to use gamepass on the steam deck I would pay for that in a heart beat. I hate not being able to play gamepass natively on the deck.
I just feel like Valve created the steam deck just to get the mobile handheld PC hype started and then cash in off by selling their steam OS to everyone. Probably why they're not in a rush to release a new deck. Just my thoughts....
the problem with 11 is we don't have 12 already and it needs to hurry up...and come out with the damn basics we lost that we had with 10 and before like moving the damn Task BAR!!!
Back in my school days in '07-08 I told my friends at the time that the next big thing is handheld gaming and that will be one of the deathnels of consoles as they are lol I was told not going to happen.. well look where we are with the steamdeck and decklikes after the PSP era. The only thing holding it back is battery life just like with laptops.
Cloud gaming is an excellent idea - from the POV of the company. Then you will REALLY not own anything any longer. Not to mention that piracy will be well dead - seeing as you can't really do anything with your own device(s).
I support Austin in this case. The fact that they are cranking the z2 go chip to 20-40 W TDP is insane considering that there aren't that many performances you are getting while you are going to have a worse battery life. AMD have shown us that they can custom their chip well enough for low TDP level and I don't understand why this was not done for Z2go and Z2 (mid to low tier). This is a difficult balance to achieve indeed, but I felt it was in the wrong direction now that we are hitting 40 W TDP with this Zen 3 processor on an handheld. It is a 680 M integrated graphics, come on.
My current dream handheld standard is a Z2 processor running steam OS, TDP from 15 - 35 W. The battery size should be 60-72Whr. Screen is a 7 inch 1200P that support VRR but it can also cap at 90FPS for better battery life. Hall effect joy stick with analog trigger.
I moved fully to Linux back in 2015 after getting fed up with Win10(been using it in various stages since the late 90's), & I'm to the point that if a game does not support STEAM for Linux, doesn't have a native port I can download from the software center, or it's not on Nintendo Switch, then I don't bother with it, so if you want change you gotta make it, & learn to live without certain things. Having said that my Linux experience with AMD, and Intel has been really good on Solus Budgie Linux.
Games not being locked exclusively to a single console is better for the consumer in every way. Exclusive titles really piss me off. Dont they want money from as many people as possible? Why lock out everyone who doesn't have that specific console minus hardware restrictions on older systems? I'm sure there's so much more nuance to it than that but man... the money these companies could make by giving more access to more people is insane.
Exclusives drive sales. You want God of War, you gotta buy a playstation. Consoles are sold at a loss, so they have to make up for that with software sales. You can say exclusives aren't good but then you are gonna be paying the same price for a single use console as you do a whole PC, o if you are Sony, you are gonna make exclusives and still charge PC prices.
Honestly I hate the switch form factor. My bags start to cramp after thirty minutes holding it. I much prefer the steam deck form factor. And reducing specs on a handheld chip out of the box is the best way to not b sell a handheld when you can you can drop tdp very easily in settings on the fly for many handhelds
Sony milks its playerbase as much as possible before then trying to catch the rest of the market. Microsoft have always been first to do things that bites them in the butt, but then later becomes a standard, like digital storefronts, digital only console, always online, consoles that are used for more than gaming etc etc. A reeeeeally stripped back version of windows, even more so than Xbox would be a game changer. The new ASUS Z13 tablet looks like a beast, put joycons on that and boom
There ALOT that the steam deck can't do that my legion go can. Not even just the games it can't handle. So much software bugs and things we just can't use.
I mean, there's really no doubt that the Legion GO is the top of the portable gaming pyramid
Most anticheats are compatible with Linux, devs just don't enable support because of "cheating concerns" or whatever other excuse
It's more that devs will invest in making the game "work" for Windows. While Linux still makes up a small number of their player base that it's not worth doing extensive QA and bug fixing for Linux.
Kinsey nailed the root of the problem. Console people feel robbed, and steam people feel rewarded.
Yeah it's crazy how often the big guy has no idea what he's talking about. He's clueless about Nintendo in general and clueless about the state of hardware at the moment. Austin having to explain that for the last 5 minutes was hard to watch.
Koo
Almost like Kinsey should talk more in videos about culture and gaming. She's great, straight to the poinit.
I think what Austin is saying is, it's not the size of the boat that matters. It's the motion in the ocean.
No it's not cooked... Valve has proven themselves with the Steam Deck.
@@arcadeportal32
There hasn’t been an official sniffle or smirk of a Deck 2, a lot of this being because the Deck team on its own is a very small team and comprises of people who work on certain sectors of the device and OS.
@@arcadeportal32 I doubt VALVe is selling SteamOS, Because linux is free, and you can download SteamOS for free, right now.
It's great that you can put SteamOS on any handheld, but I want to put it on a HTPC in the living room!
@@TheZoenGaming You wanted Sream OS on your PC, I suggested a clone that did. Deal with it or don't, I don't care.
I personally love the idea of windows handhelds better cause then it also doubles as a personal computer. You can have it docked into desktop peripherals and use it normally then unplug it from a dock when you need to use controller or take with you somewhere.
The Nintendo switch aspect of windows handhelds are so appealing
Umm AcHktUAllyyyy... SteamOS on Steamdeck has the same feature tho. I often use it as a desktop PC. Just need a dock or a dongle.
@@jeirmeister1276 problem is any serious productivity apps are either on windows or mac not linux
guys: the PROBLEM IS NOT the hardware.
I got the Oled Steam Deck. I cant play Madden25 ?

I want morrowind oblivion and skyrim and all the 3 fable games and plenty of save space with all dlc on one offline handheld is that even possible?

Nah people are wilding here. The big guy is spot on, the skinny guy thinks SteamOs is the best thing ever when Window is actually not that bad.
Love this convo guys. Microsoft is really pushing people patience and we need an alternative.
Windows haven't been great on anything since 8, I really love the ideia of saying goodbye to Windows for gaming entirely
*SEGA*
I believe Nintendo is better than Sega in both hardware and software but I think Sega caters more to my taste.
Shenmue
Shenmue II
Shenmue III (I beat it twice but will plat it)
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
Sonic Superstars
Sonic X Shadow Generations
I love that Sega style.
*Sega* *vs.* *Namco*
Virtua Racing / Daytona USA - Ridge Racer
Virtua Fighter - Tekken
Virtua Cop / House of the Dead - Time Crisis
My only complaint about Sega is they can do a little too much that they lose focus.
SEGA!
*Legion* *Go* *S*
With the Switch 2 going to be announced in 2 days, it got me thinking about the Steam Deck 2?
*Switch* *2*
I predict Red Dead Redemption 2 and Final Fantasy VII Remake will be launch day titles for the Switch 2 and the unit will be priced at $399.

Correction. They don't support linux and not the other way around.
im never moving to windows 11 im sticking to windows 10 forever

I said that about XP... Then 7... Then 10... Seems like the best OS skips a generation. Win 12 will probably be better than 11. Putting WinVR support back would be an idea.
Go with an LTSC version then, at least it's supported until 2032
Genuinely looking forward to loading SteamOS onto my desktop sometime (hopefullly) this year. I know Bazzite is already available, and I've already moved across from Windows to Linux, using the steam deck (and docking it when I had to go away for a couple months) opened my eyes to how much I really needed windows.

I'm a music nerd too so I appreciate valve and I appreciate tiny moving parts

Options.
Long live GOG
I'd take a cut down steam handheld to play all my retro/2d/basic games that just feels weird playing on a big screen.
competitors need a trackpad to truly compete. There is a big difference
I keep hoping someone will do for PC gaming that Movies Anywhere did for digital movies.
19:25 soo like the GPD Win Mini?
The editing is rough alot of cuts overall
FYI I've had native SteamOS on the more powerful version of the Z2Go (6800hs has more cores and higher TDP)
Getting updates and betas directly from valve is great, also things like bazzite tent to run into, I wouldn't say more issues, I'd say different issues. Because this hardware is not officially supported I have issues with things like sleep, and expecting the presence of steam buttons from the steamdeck, but bazzite which I have on a 7840hs often runs into more problems running games than Steam OS does
I was really hoping this cut down version of the 6800hs in the Z2Go would mean we'd get a handheld with 24gb of RAM for like $500 since it is 3 years old now and cut down to the same core count as the Ryzen 3 line
Or what am I missing with steam os vs windows or on a legion go
Is Matt wearing a Tiny Moving Parts shirt? ❤
Kenzie coming in with 1000% correct argument
Austin my dear. The kind of chip you are asking for doesn't exist for the price you are saying.
What you are describing is snapdragon 8 elite. Its got pretty much equivalent geekbench score as to z1e.
Guess how much that cost?
US$240 for just the chip.
A good handheld with all those expectations can be built by sony.
Is the go s stronger than my steam deck? If so I want it.
Weird to think the hardware of any device has plateaued when you host a tech show
Yes Kenzi!!!
I dont think mobile subscription of xbox live works or will be accepted in any way like steam os. the main appeal of a desktop pc has always been "NO ONLINE FEE" plus its generally about $20 cheaper than the console counterpart.
Kenzie is 100% correct!
0:00 almost almost like Macbeth
Another thing is arm cpus. Linux is way more prepared to handle arm cpus than windows. So with the upcoming nvdia cpus and other future arm cpus with their efficiency steamos will have the edge.
XBOX OS on XBOX Series is basically Windows 11 embedded with a special UI. So yeah XBOX = Windows.
I wonder if it would be possible to Install Steam OS on a Nintendo Switch Lite? 🤔
well I'll keep using my rog ally z1 E as my main machine, and keep my steamdeck for handheld only sometimes. but I'm happy for Valve :)
I just feel like Valve created the steam deck just to get the mobile handheld PC hype started and then cash in off by selling their steam OS to everyone. Probably why they're not in a rush to release a new deck. Just my thoughts....
How about steam os to replace windows on my desktop!🙏
Great video guys
the problem with 11 is we don't have 12 already and it needs to hurry up...and come out with the damn basics we lost that we had with 10 and before like moving the damn Task BAR!!!
I hope they make a windows game handheld update. I love my ROG Ally and been hoping windows be better!
I don't do handhelds I just want to download it to my USB OS boot drive to install it on my game box.
13:07 Boy got owned with facts and logic™
God! i despise people who think they are smart businessmen when they can't operate a lemonade stand
The Problem with Windows 11 is well.. ITS Windows.
Is it me or is Alex on heavy caffeine or something talking so quickly lol
Honestly I'm getting fed up with gaming on windows. The only reason I still drive windows daily is for certain online games.
Im excited to see SteamOS take off. Linux Gaming for the future!!
Exclusive MAKE the console period there is no debate
Honestly I hate the switch form factor. My bags start to cramp after thirty minutes holding it. I much prefer the steam deck form factor. And reducing specs on a handheld chip out of the box is the best way to not b sell a handheld when you can you can drop tdp very easily in settings on the fly for many handhelds
I'm so excited for Steam OS
Sony milks its playerbase as much as possible before then trying to catch the rest of the market. Microsoft have always been first to do things that bites them in the butt, but then later becomes a standard, like digital storefronts, digital only console, always online, consoles that are used for more than gaming etc etc. A reeeeeally stripped back version of windows, even more so than Xbox would be a game changer. The new ASUS Z13 tablet looks like a beast, put joycons on that and boom
The only reason to get a handheld with Windows are anti-cheats
Ideal AMD APU for handhelds would be 4/6 core cpu and 16/20 CU GPU
There ALOT that the steam deck can't do that my legion go can. Not even just the games it can't handle. So much software bugs and things we just can't use.
I never had windows 11
Say it all the time, the only reason i had windows on a steamdeck was for BS anticheat on EA and COD titles etc. Otherwise id just use steam OS
