This is such an inspirational song for me and this video really hits home because my dad was in the Coast Guard and it almost makes me cry thinking about what conditions he endured just to save other people's lives. Even though we don't always get along, I love him and this video make me realize how proud of him I am also. Thank you Three Doors Down for the song and thank you StarrNickens for posting the vid!
    Go Coasties!!!

Coast Guard had 378 footers 82 footers in Nam , I served on the USCGC Mellon and Muro.
Mellon finished sea trials headed to Nam .
No I didn't serve on her at that time but about 15 years after I got out .
And this is amazing because there's not many of us as it is .
And in East Alabama you rarely meet us Coasties .
My son worked at Publix bagged groceries back then .
Took a guys groceries to his truck and had a Coast Guard sticker on the bumper .
My son asked if he was in , told him yes so my son told him the units I served with .
Guy says Im a plank owner on Mellon went to Nam on her .
I was a lieutenant at the time , so he gives my son his number .
Says have your Dad call me ! So I call him up we told a few Sea stories .
He says bring the family up next Saturday and I accepted.
We get there he has his own beef herd , throws some meat on the grill he raised .
We ate sat there told more Sea stories and some history , I didn't know about Mellon .
Was a great day ! Two different areas and it was as if you served together .
My Dad served in Korea and Vietnam , most mistreated vet as long as I been living .
      Salute !

NIce video. Good mix of blackshoe and brownshoe (well, maybe a bit more brownshoe. Ha).
Nice seeling posts giving the USGG love. To those who want to go to Kodiak. It is the coolest place. I was an flight mech (AD) on HH3fs an could not believe they paid me extra to fly up there! Hanging out of the door doing SAR was the best job I've ever had. Looking back, I can't believe the crap we were doing in those helos at such a young age. Spemper Par!

WooT USCG!!! joining is the best thing you probaly ever would do with your life... like joey said, you go in strong and come out ripped! also you come out as a great swimmer and you can save lives and help others =) PT is toug in the coast guard. swimming a couple miles and running 8 miles everyday is a challenge to most. so if you do plan on joining the USCG then start pre training early, likke when your still in high school. also when you do get in you need to be dedicated to join cuz those

For all the men and woman with the "Coasties" that never seem to get the call on nice days. You go out serve and save when most shouldn't be where they are, doing what they are doing. A great big THANK YOU, for answering the call when the pickle is floating.

At the .24 mark, the kid you see in the basket? The part you didn't see was where he was treading water, for the last time, he was going under. The rescue swimmer went in and pulled him back to the surface. The kid had been treading water for hours and had just given up. As dramatic as it sounds, you can see the look on his face just before the flight mech patted him on the shoulder. He was safe and I'm sure will never forget that little orange helo for the rest of his life.

I want to add to my comment I left out the women that also serve in protecting our shores and inland waters not to mention how they stop drug trafficking in the US and patrol the inland waterway for terrorists so if you see a coastie thank them for their service

AST school is hard you might want to make it through Bootcamp before proclaiming your intentions to the world because most people change their minds. But if you really want it and are willing to sacrifice a lot then go for it.

@RobbyJoys actually, the coast guard is part of homeland security, not department of defense(military branches)
Never the less the Coast Guard is bad ass!

    • @chuckbratcher9866
      @chuckbratcher9866 4 года назад

The Coast Guard is a branch of the Military. They have to follow the same rules and regulations as all the other branches. Same Pay scale, same benefits. The reason the Coast Guard is not in the DEPT of Defense is that they enforce laws on American citizens and the DOD can not do that by law. I served in Operation Iraqi Freedom during 2003 as a Chief in the Coast Guard. I retired after 20 years of service.
