While most of the Hadley makeup tips didn't work for me, it doesn't mean they won't for you, so check out their makeup tutorials for the blind at Hadley.edu - either way, I'm glad a resource like this does exist for blind makeup lovers who don't know where to start and hopefully they can make more advanced tutorials in the future for people like me who want to further their skills. :) I am happy that the mascara hack worked for me though, LIFE CHANGING and I've been using it daily ever since filming this! haha Anyways, do you want me to do an updated makeup tutorial showing how I do things now? I've learned and changed my process a lot from when I did my last makeup tutorial!

Updated tutorial PLEASE! Also, I always tried the using a finger to find the starting point for eyeliner-thing, but as you said it does make it difficult to hit the right spot so I never do a good job with it...
And pretty please with sugar on top DO THE NAIL TUTORIAL!!!
P.S. I tend to use the selfie camera on my phone and zoom in through that, even using the screen magnifier if needed, to take a look after I'm done trying (and failing) to apply make-up.

Hey I have an unrelated question for you do you use your other senses to get around because for me as a blind person are you sent to smell a lot of the time and it’s very heightened so what senses do use a lot as a blind person in terms of hearing touch taste smell and yeah all of that

I would love for them to reach out to you and other blind people who are good at makeup. I'm thankful that they made these tutorials but to be honest I tried these out and it did not work for me at all and in my opinion I really don't think most of those tips are gonna work, even for people who can see. Your end results were kind a meh (I'm not trying to be hurtful!) like both sides were completely different. I understand that they tried to make an makeup "theory" for blind people but these fingers tricks are really complicated and hard. I guess it can be helpful for people who don't have one dominant hand but can do things with both hands easily. That mascara tip was great! What I would like to add about mascara is don't try to immediately rub it off if it gets to your skin because it will smudge all over, rather wait for it to dry out and you can easily "scratch" it off. I'm thankful but would love to see some alternative tips because my fingers really got in my way all the time also like you said some more advanced tutorials would be good. And if you want I bet we all would love to see an updated tutorial from you! People would love more options when trying tips and tricks out because one way can't work for everyone. All the best for you ❤️

I blend my foundation down my neck but not as much as I would have on my face. If you only blend to your chin then your neck stays a different color. Always blend down your neck to your shirt line, in my opinion. Loved this video as a sighted woman.

Added description to all my blind cat lovers (or sighted people who completely missed it). Around minute 35:32 Lavender begins her descent from the counter top, puts her two front paws on the back of the couch, raises her but in the air and gets in a nice stretch before settling into a sleepy position on the back rest of the couch. I thought this needed more attention.
Loved this video !!! Also I feel like their general makeup look is very 2005- one kid colour, no bronzer or highlight, foundation on the lips first. So I loved this video since it taught us about makeup AND tips for blind (and us sighted folk who suck at application)
    Sending love !!

1st Lavender appearance is on 15:55 on the back rest of the couch until 21:26. She yawns, puts her head on her front paws &naps a lil. She appears again on 33:47 on the counter (eats/ drinks? from her bowl) before the 35:32 descent &jumps off out of screen on 36:05 🐱🐈

I’m not sure if someone else has mentioned this but a mascara hack I’ve seen some makeup artists use is to place something like a business card behind your eyelashes so it doesn’t get on your eyelid! I haven’t personally tried it but I’d be interested to know if it’s helpful !

I make vision impaired make up tutorials and often keep it pretty simple, mostly doing concealer, foundation, powder and lipstick, sometimes adding an eyeshadow as well. I will also sometimes put on moisturiser or other creams to make it easier to put on the foundation and concealer, but I’ve always struggled with eyeliner and mascara. I think it’s amazing how well you’re able to do your make up, especially trickier things like mascara.

Molly just another FYI. When I was undergoing my second cataract surgery, I was with an intern and we were talking about life skills. I taught myself btw. But I did tell her I looked at a lot of blind or low vision yourubers, and she mentioned YOU! WE spoke about your channel and then it was off to surgery.
I'm from Chicago and Hadley is in the suburbs here. I recently did a trial program test of their all new teach yourself braille reading lesson booklets for those wanting to learn. As a former college educator, I had some things to point out to the person involved with that program.

  • @blukatzen

Hi Molly and community!I had quick growing intense cataracts in my eyes that left me with low vision on one eye blind in the other. ( no light perception)
I loved makeup and was kind of sad but just but balm on my lips creams on my face and that was it for two and a half years.
It was bad to lose sight of the features of one's own face. It's like a certain sense of identity left and waS gone.
I needed color in my life but got it from kitchen tools and other house cleaning tips. I was alone since my husband died. So I felt there was no one to be pretty for. I was mourning him as well, besides battling covid and long haul covid.
It's been a rough journey. I feel for all my blind brothers and sisters on our journey together, and I love you still give makeup tutorials. You ate always impeccably dressed. Kudos to you!

I always blend foundation down my neck, even the chest sometimes, depending on the neckline of my clothing; it helps prevent the "tide line" where there's a clear disconnect between the face and the rest of the body, because for sighted-folks they tend to see the discrepancy of colour, texture and tone immediately.
There can be significant differences in shades due to tan-lines, redness etc. and all sorts of other factors. This means that for a lot of people the face is darker than the neck due to sun exposure, and how/where your foundation is matched will alter how seamlessly it blends. If you only match to the face, it gives a surreal "bobble-head doll" effect and looks a bit strange 😅

    • @hanzib31
      @hanzib31 2 года назад +2

Agreed. My chest is also a shade lighter than my face anyway so blending it down helps it not look mad 😅

i dont think the blush being higher looked bad its just a different look to what you normally go for, it gives more of an editorial look where as putting it on the fuller part of the cheeks gives more of a sweet/cute look
also have you tried something like the nars lip pencils for your lipstick?

hi moly. I know you’ve done some tutorials in the past but it has seemed like you are mostly showing how you would do it instead of explaining like you did in this video which was really interesting and gave me some great tips as a blind person. It would be really cool if you made a video explaining specifically for blind people how you do your makeup especially for stuff like bronzer and contour which I literally have no idea what they do or where they go. it was really nice to get some tips that I’m definitely going to try later and also I finally found out what concealer was and where and how to apply it lol

I think you do a better job of your lipstick when you do it your way instead of following the tutorial's technique lol, with some of the hacks it seems like it almost makes it harder to get it even on both sides. Well most of that is practice. Maybe if she had as much experience with this technique as with hers, it would be a more even playing field. I would love to see a third party young woman (or young man) who is blind and first getting into makeup trying some of her techniques vs. theirs to see what might be helpful for people who are first learning! For blush, rather than the V, that seems to get it too close to your eyes, I'd imagine a line from the base of your nose to the bottom of your ear and one from the center of your eye down to intersect with the horizontal line. This will define where the bronzer, blush, and highlighter goes, above the horizontal line and from the vertical like out toward the ear and up the temple. Now, lastly, for the top line of the blush, on you, you'll imagine another horizontal like from the center of the bridge of your nose out to where a vertical line from the outer tip of your brow drawn down would intersect the horizontal one from the center of the bridge of your nose. This keeps you away from the undereye with the blush or highlighter and you can go around and up the temple a bit with the blush if you like. Pretty much everything goes in the triangle created on your cheeks. Bronzer first and wider, and up the temple and forehead, then blush higher and on the actual cheekbone and lightly up the temple if you like, then highlighter at the top, but always below the orbital bone (eye socket). That's it.

Also since you asked, The lip lining turned out pretty good, but I actually think the "harder" side of your upper lip turned out better. I put my foundation all the way down to my chest! Between having acne on my chest, when I was younger, and sun damage it looks way nicer if I put foundation there too!

I'm really interested in this because during college I do costume makeup every Saturday because I'm a creative writer who enjoys dressing up as my characters. That takes a full 2 hours. Most of the time I'm using at two different color eyeshadows for my eyes. I'm wondering if putting your foundation in the fridge could do more than just allow you to be able to feel it on your face. Because I am not blind and I don't need to feel what I'm doing when I do makeup

So I think they were trying to say blend the eyeshadow up to your crease, and then I’d say less than a fingertip’s length above your crease. Not on the brow bone but a fingertip underneath that, if that makes sense? I’m sighted so I’d love to hear what you think about this! Loved this ❤️

So, for me how I do mascara as a blind girl is I basically don’t. I had a really bad experience with eyelash extensions like infections and as someone that already has some jacked up eyes I’d rather keep them as healthy as possible. So now I get my eyelashes tinted, the same with my eyebrows, and then I use a lengthening and growth and serum or a clear mascara. It’s really hard to find really good high-quality clear mascara so I normally just do a serum. I am lucky to have pretty full eyelashes especially my bottom lashes but mascara is not for me

I would like to see you do all of the other videos you mentioned. You always do your makeup very well. For lips, I always put my foundation on my lips, and I completely color in my lips with the lip liner, then apply lipstick. My friends would ask me how I kept my lipstick on all day, even through eating, and I think it’s those two things.

Totally off the wall, but I think my baby might be visually impaired. He's only a bit over a year old and turns his eyes when he focuses. That's beside the point though. Watching you for so many years is comforting to know we can manage and adjust. I wanna say thank you for sharing your life and giving people the realistic view into what having vision loss is about. Love you for being your most genuine self 💚 thank you

Tip for the lips: after cleaning your finger off at the end, take your clean finger at the end and wipe off the perimeter off your lips because after smudging your lipstick with your finger it can smear a little 💕 even as a sighted person I do this after putting on red lipstick💄

Another hack for mascara... let any of your smudges/clumps dry and then use the tip of a spoolie brush to basically scrape it off. Cotton swabs tend to smush it more and leave more behind but I find this almost always gets everything off!

I'd suggest doing brows and eyes first, im sighted but find it easier, I can run a make up wipe on the face and under the eyes, to get rid of any fall out and using my nail, i starting from the end of the eye sweeping up to the tail end of my brow, using a wipe makes a really clean look.
Also for brows which I do first, using my nail again and a wipe, I run it under my brow, which would be your brow bone for those non sighted, and if possible above the brow. Then do your eyes.
I love cream products too as there for the most part buildable.
Again this is what I do as a sighted person but dyspraxic, but I don't encounter those issue that non sighted do.
    Your all amazing 👏

If you get mascara on your skin, don't touch it until it dries. Then you can brush it off with a dry cotton swab or tissue or something. It only smudges and gets hard to remove before it has dried.

*As a make-up artist I can say yes yes yes to the HIGH blush. People wear it too low and it looks clown like, or like your great grandmother's style.
*Know that you don't ever need make-up
    *make-up will age your skin
*if wearing make-up, you do not need to wear foundation, you can use A LIGHT bronzer to enhance your natural dimensions on your face without blush.
    * the popular make-up of beautubers and celebrities personalities is bizarre looking because it's horribly heavy handed.
    * don't use shimmer shades if you are starting to get fine lines (sorry ladies, usually around 30) because even with eyeshadow base it will settle in your creases and really age you.

If you really want sparkle use a small amount of pressed glitter or glitter gel in the centre of the moblie lid and tap out gently toward the edges, This avoids the exaggeration of lines as it won't reach them. ( i'm nearly 50 and have been doing bridal make up for almost 30 years.)

as a sighted person, i think it would be a great idea if you did a version of Hadley's makeup tutorial because as you said many of the tips didn't wok for you so that means there are people out there that it won't work for either
