Reminds me of a powerful quote from one of Andrea Bonatta's Liszt masterclasses: "Never give the impression that you know the notes. You are always improvising."

I just listened to Sophia play at the Edinburgh Festival, she played some very difficult pieces by Chopin and Liszt and I have to say that she was excellent. After 'only' playing the piano for 13 years, she has achieved an incredible level. Well done to her parents too.

Some great advice regarding the improvisatory aspect of performance, and not just for Chopin's music either.

We all play the notes but without meaning it isn't music. All the no-nothings who constantly post that this pianist is more than another don't even know what the object of the pianist is. If you haven't studied with a master it is because you didn't have the musicality, imagination and techique to do so - so just be very quiet and hope you get to see ,feel, hear something new!
