One of my all time favorite pedals. THE original overdrive. Very over looked, and underated. Still the absolute best pedal to tighten up a loose and flabby amp. The trick to the SD1 is to get the amp as close as possible to the sound you are looking for and let the pedal get you the rest of the way. On a different note I'll add, way before the boutique overdrive pedal explosion with pedals costing $200 and more. Nice tones and nice playing Bjorn. Thanks for uploading this! I always liked the SD1 for that mid boosty, smooth compression thing; even better than most tube screamers (except the 808 original). I don‘t think the SD1 sounds anything like the Tube Driver though. Thanks for the tip! I’ll try to do a video of the guitar in the future. I’ve tried to balance the pickups so that the level should be even bit the SSL 5 has more mids and compression that makes it cut though more...
I love it! My equipment is dusted since years but I wanna get it out soon because of a brillant street musician I saw covering Gil. I have Ibanez RG321 Boss ME70 Vox Valvetronic Amp And I should also have some Elexir Strings somewhere. Do you think I can create some decent Gilmour Sound with that? Thanks man and keep up the good work!
Thank You Björn for keeping these tones alive! Is it possible to cover some of Davids 80s Sound? Especially his almost metal-styled Solos during the "about face"/"momentary Lapse" period.
Those are hard to replicate because he used a combination of a Boss HM2 into a Mesa Boogie MkI for leads. You could get a similar tone with an overdrive replacing the Mesa but that setup is unique. He also used a lot of chorus in those days.
Ive got a ProCo Rat and a GK 250 ML amplifier. But the compression and the overdrive of the GK are very noisy, but the sound works sometimes. You videos are always inspiring Grethings!
Really enjoying your Gilmour on a budget videos. Can you provide any guidance on using amp sims? I use an old Line 6 Pod 2.0 to record. So any insight on being more Gilmourish would be appreciated, thank you.
No I don’t think you need it but it depends on how much distortion you’re using. Noise suppressors often kill the dynamics of your tone. Better to roll back the gain, use shieldrd cables, good quality powering and learn how to turn away from the amp to avoid feedback and your pickups picking up hum.
Yep, that works! Underrated pedal, ye olde SD-1. Very nice, Bjorn. One thing I always wanted to ask: with a delay like TC Flashback, Boss DD-7, any small pedal that doesn't have a readout for delay time, how is it that you can set the delay time so precisely (eg: 300ms)? Do you just take the maximum delay time "sweep" (for want of a better word) then work out roughly where 300ms is on the knob? I use a DD-7, for example I want to do Run Like Hell dotted 8ths part. I select 800ms mode, then I would set the delay time knob to where I think 440 ms (is it 440?) liies, is that sort of right? Sorry for the vague wording, I haven't had enough coffee this morning. But I'm slowly coming back to....
Matt Gilbert , check out Bjorn’s recent delay video where he instructs you to use a virtual pedal in garage band (or software of choice i.e. AmpliTube) and set the time on the delay there. Next match your actual delay to the to the virtual delay and mark your pedal so you know where it is in the future.
Thanks for another great video. Have you seen the new release of the The Electro-Harmonix Triangle Big Muff Pi? I'm sure is a new great option for Gilmourish like us. Thanks for this video
Excellent video for sure! That's a nice tone but IMO a bit too compressed and dull. Perhaps dialing back the drive level on the amp and boosting the mids/highs would open up the tone a bit. Again, JMO.
Thanks for the comment. It's not dead on obviously and it would have sounded even closer if I'd used the Hiwatt or my Reeves but the point was that this is a pedal that I think most guitarists has laying around or at least are familiar with and you can get very close even with budget pedals like this.
excellent job again thank you.....i still can not get right the fuzz sound and right now i found the boss fuzz fz-5 could you check it out in future.thanks a lot
Nice... I have a mid-eighties one, very abused but still functioning. Sounds good enough for me.I wonder if these things will break if you thrown them down from the space station
Hi Bjørn. Nice video of the SD-1. That helped me out a lot. Will you also make a video of the Boss DS-1 distortion, to see if you can recreate Gilmour sounds? Take så mycket!
i know you can find all Gilmour sounds in boutique pedals and you have shown amazingly that it can be done with less expensive Boss pedals...but what about other affordable pedals brands? Like Fulltone or Way Huge? or possibly even the tier below that...such as the Outlaw Effects brand pedals? if it is possible i believe that you can find a way to apply them to the Gilmour style
Well there are a ton of different budget brands and pedals out there. I’ve always tried to stress the importance of putting your money into a good guitar and amp rather than expensive pedals but it all comes down to knowing how to use and set up everything.
Buying expensive pedals and not having a good guitar or amp is like putting expensive high performance tires on a cheap car . Something like that ..Lol Nice playing by the way . New Jersey , USA
I realized that any pedal can cover Gilmour tones, as long as it sounds nice. Because Gilmour does not A tone. He has a lot. Every time he plays, he plays different, with different setups, so... have fun with anything you got!
Great demonstration! Do you think one could use a SD1 to cover some of the tones from the Colorsound Powerboost era? Also- as far as budget pedals go, ya gotta check out the TC Tube Pilot. It’s like a very scaled down Tube Driver, imho, and with the right set up can get you some great Gilmour Tube Driver tones.
The BD2 is much closer to the Powerboost. The SD1 is basically a Tube Screamer, with lots of compression and mid range. Quite the oposite of the Powerboost. Check out my review of the BD2 here on my channel :)
Personally I'd look to up the tone to somewhere around 11 o'clock to 2 o'clock!! I like a bit more treble in the sound, especially for playing live at high volume.
HI BJORN !!! Nice to see you .Have you done my C6 MOD ?? (remove or bypass with a switch the capacitor C6 ) . Less compression, no mid boost and sound like a natual overdrive (tube drive). !!! SMACK !! TRY IT !!
Great timing. I've recently dusted mine off and forgot how good it is with a Marshall. It's like bacon and eggs. Thinking about getting the waza version for those extra tones and removing the tone suck that the old one does when bypassed. Apparently the waza doesn't do that
@@gilmourishofficial wow I didn't know about that particular one. I know there's some good mods, and I was just thinking about doing the Monte allums mod, but now I need to look for that version or get the stuff to try it myself. That sounds amazing. Thanks for the info Bjorn!
Amazing Tone! I have one too. Never thought using it for DG stuff. That's the real proof that tone comes from the guitarist himself rather than the gear he uses. Btw: Where did you got that neck? Beautiful. Cheers,
Depends on what tones you want. With the BD2 last you'll get a nice clean boost while with it first, you'll get more gain and a brighter tone. Try it and decide for yourself.
Thanks man, great playing. Gonna get this pedal. For the CE-2, could you (or someone) please tell me a cheap clone, or few, of the overly expensive Boss CE-2 Chorus? I know theres a few CH-1 clones, but looking for the warmer nature of the CE-2 ...in a clone. Especially exact circuits, Any ideas?

As much as I love my Maxon 808, the SD1 definitely has a wider range of tones and it sound much more dynamic. Two very different pedals although with obvious similarities.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll try to do a video of the guitar in the future. I’ve tried to balance the pickups so that the level should be even bit the SSL 5 has more mids and compression that makes it cut though more...
Hi Bjorn, excellent work here again, thanks!!! If I may ask, was the CE2 before or after the SD1? Thanks!!
Thanks! The CE-2 was placed after.
I'm sure you've seen EHX is re issuing the triangle big muff. Hoping to see a review from you.
Hope t have a review up as soon as the pedal hits the street.
I love it!
My equipment is dusted since years but I wanna get it out soon because of a brillant street musician I saw covering Gil.
I have
Ibanez RG321
Boss ME70
Vox Valvetronic Amp
And I should also have some Elexir Strings somewhere.
Do you think I can create some decent Gilmour Sound with that?
Thanks man and keep up the good work!
Yeah the ME70 should have a SD1 setting specifically
Beautiful! Thanks man
Thank You Björn for keeping these tones alive!
You videos are always inspiring
Grethings!
Really enjoying your Gilmour on a budget videos. Can you provide any guidance on using amp sims? I use an old Line 6 Pod 2.0 to record. So any insight on being more Gilmourish would be appreciated, thank you.
Nice tone , can you yell me do I need a noise supressor if I put this in front of the amp? I have a Marshall 102cfx modelling amp ..thanks !
No I don’t think you need it but it depends on how much distortion you’re using. Noise suppressors often kill the dynamics of your tone. Better to roll back the gain, use shieldrd cables, good quality powering and learn how to turn away from the amp to avoid feedback and your pickups picking up hum.
I would appreciate if you could let me know with which pedals the guitar tone in the final solo of the song Comfortably numb was made.

Great videos, Bjorn - thanks so much. I'd be very curious to see what you'd do with the humble DS-1 and/or a BOSS flanger!
Regards,
Bern
Next one up!
Thanks for the video.
beautiful
Hi Bjorn, what do you think which is better for Dave Gilmour's overdriven tones: the bd-2 or the sd-1?
BD2 for sure. Very similar to the Tube Driver.
@@gilmourishofficial thank you :))
Thanks for another great video. Have you seen the new release of the The Electro-Harmonix Triangle Big Muff Pi? I'm sure is a new great option for Gilmourish like us. Thanks for this video
I'll make a review if they send me one. But yes, it should be a great alternative to the Gilmour sound.
What settings did you have your CE-2 set at please Bjorn?
I usually have the rate around 12:00 and the depth at 11:00.
Great sound! Really inspiring. What chord progression were you soloing to? Id love to play like that...
Thanks! That's loosely based on Pink Floyd's Coming Back to Life.
Nice... I have a mid-eighties one, very abused but still functioning. Sounds good enough for me.I wonder if these things will break if you thrown them down from the space station
Probably not... :)
Hi Bjørn. Nice video of the SD-1. That helped me out a lot. Will you also make a video of the Boss DS-1 distortion, to see if you can recreate Gilmour sounds?
Take så mycket!
Yep
i know you can find all Gilmour sounds in boutique pedals and you have shown amazingly that it can be done with less expensive Boss pedals...but what about other affordable pedals brands? Like Fulltone or Way Huge?
or possibly even the tier below that...such as the Outlaw Effects brand pedals? if it is possible i believe that you can find a way to apply them to the Gilmour style
Well there are a ton of different budget brands and pedals out there. I’ve always tried to stress the importance of putting your money into a good guitar and amp rather than expensive pedals but it all comes down to knowing how to use and set up everything.
Buying expensive pedals and not having a good guitar or amp is like putting expensive high performance tires on a cheap car . Something like that ..Lol
Nice playing by the way .

I realized that any pedal can cover Gilmour tones, as long as it sounds nice. Because Gilmour does not A tone. He has a lot. Every time he plays, he plays different, with different setups, so... have fun with anything you got!
greate playing and thought
Thanks!
Check out my review of the BD2 here on my channel :)
gilmourish RIIS thanks!
hi Bjorn. as someone who has never owned pedals before, what would be good ones to buy to get a gilmourish tone?
That's a big question :) Start with this feature on my site and do check out the buyer's guides as well :) www.gilmourish.com/?p=7115
!!! SMACK !! TRY IT !!
Thanks for the tip!
Great timing. I've recently dusted mine off and forgot how good it is with a Marshall. It's like bacon and eggs. Thinking about getting the waza version for those extra tones and removing the tone suck that the old one does when bypassed. Apparently the waza doesn't do that
My favourite version is the Analogman with the mid range booster. Been using that one for years.
Beautiful.
Cheers,
Thanks! I've done a piece on the guitar here
www.bjornriis.com/my-gear/1stratocaster/
It looked like the pedal was off the whole time?? The red light was pretty dark haha
Wonderful
perfect sound, what gauge in your beautiful guitar?
10-46
Thank you
just bought a Pigtone Super Overdrive for 20€s, copy or not, loads of gain, I use it for slight drive jazzy soloing...
Bravo!
How would you stack/order an SD-1 with a BD-2? I've had and used both for a long time, but never together, and I feel like I'm missing something.
Depends on what tones you want. With the BD2 last you'll get a nice clean boost while with it first, you'll get more gain and a brighter tone. Try it and decide for yourself.
To play Pink Floyd - Sorrow what distortion pedal should I use?
Check out this feature on my site for more info

Do RUclips have a vidéo or an article about chorus effect un thé Gilmour sound ?
No but it's on the list to do...
Gilmourish should be a new entry in the English Dictionary.
Nice
Which pedal do the TS9 or SD1 recommend?
I love them both. The TS9 has a bit more mids and compression, while the SD1 is slightly more open sounding with a tad more gain.
Could you please make review of the electro harmonix crayon overdrive ?
It's on the list!
Your work is wonderful ;)
Thanks man, great playing. Gonna get this pedal. For the CE-2, could you (or someone) please tell me a cheap clone, or few, of the overly expensive Boss CE-2 Chorus? I know theres a few CH-1 clones, but looking for the warmer nature of the CE-2 ...in a clone. Especially exact circuits, Any ideas?
The Mooer Ensemble King sounds great.
@@gilmourishofficial thanks ...do you know if its the same circuit as the CE-2? ..Or just in the ballpark?
You would have to check but tonewise it's very close.
@@gilmourishofficial thanks, ive also seen a video on the joyo analog chorus ...seems close too
do you have some tone prints of flashback ?
No but check out the ones available. Lots there that you can use.
I got a proco rat recently, second hand, and I really like it. I might get one of these someday too, it gives just the right ammount of punch punch... (Sorry my english sucks)
Your english is good buddy, yo también tengo un rat y lo amo! No lo cambiaría por nada..
@@davidcamargo7143 gracias :D Ahi sigue, feliz en mi pedalera 😂
How did you add the delay and chorus ?
Had a Boss CE-2 and TC Flashback placed after the SD-1.
That strat though.. binding around the fretboard
I have a 1986 sd1 on my pedal board. I run a fender deluxe with a vox ac 15. My sd1 DOES NOT sound flat. It sounds better then my maxon od808 and that's where the ts9 was born
As much as I love my Maxon 808, the SD1 definitely has a wider range of tones and it sound much more dynamic. Two very different pedals although with obvious similarities.
@@gilmourishofficial true that's why they are both on my board
