- Which Is The Better Recovery Board In The Snow?
This is round 2 of testing the Fieryred recovery boards and comparing them to the Maxtrax. This time we are out in the snow, and we are going to see how these plastics hold up. All plastics become more rigid and brittle in the cold. Lets see how these recovery boards stack up against eachother.
Wether it be sand, snow, mud, or using as a bridge, its good to know just what your gear is capable of before you actually need it.

Thanks for mentioning picking up the trash, it's appreciated. 🤘
Video was great, nice to see how these perform in the cold too, I watched the sand version prior to this, so it makes for a pretty good comparison of the three. Thanks again!!
Of course! Thanks for checking it out!
It hurt shelling out 300 dollars for traction boards but its videos like these that make me glad I went with Maxtrax.
Yeah I bought some from a company called “Traction Jacks” my first time, and they were pretty useless. Then I told myself I was just going to pull the trigger and have something tried and true.
I do think these budget boards have their place, but they are more for the guys who go on vacation once a year with their rig.
I just watched this video because I bought these recovery boards. And I paid around $290 on Amazon as of February 2024. These do look good. I’d rather have better engineered recovery boards than the cheap things I couldn’t depend on. Sometimes your life depends on that..
Great thank you for the video. I don’t off road but go to the mountains in the winter enough that I’ve dealt with getting snowed in or stuck in the snow and want something to get my 4runner out on my own.
Good testing, thanks for the work. Trying to figure out traction boards it's good to see real testing
I’m glad you found it useful James! Thanks for watching!
Time to start saving for the good stuff 🤔 great review 👊
Thanks for checking it out Larry! Ready for Spring yet?
My friend bought a cheap set from Amazon, we used them one time in the snow and they cracked. He returned them and got a full refund. I dont care how many companies come out with traction boards, Maxtrax is the way to go. I myself will be getting a set soon. Did you consider the Maxtrax Xtreme?
Yeah I may get a set of those for the next rig later this year. They apparently don’t stack evenly with the Maxtrax Mk 2, so that could be an issue. I honestly think 2 sets of the Mark 2 could get you out of just about anything, but I would like to try the extremes if the opportunity arises.
Have you tried the Action Trax?
I have not, I have heard good things though. If I get the opportunity from them to test them, I certainly will.
Sometimes its better to invest in good gear.
Agreed
👍 Promo>SM!!
This was anything but controlled testing. Almost satire
You know what else isn’t controlled testing? Getting unstuck from sand, mud, or snow.
