This is BEST organized system. I’ve tried them all over the years. Too much information leads to inability to keep patients separated. I’ve learned, if I need to know it- look it up. It’s a waste of time and space over writing. I’d add a few little things, but that’s just for me 😄

I am a 2nd semester student in Med Surg. This past week, I sat down and wrote a list of all my goals (skills, critical thinking, labs to know, meds to know, etc..) for clinicals this semester. My second clinical day is tomorrow and my main (critical thinking) goal is learning to organize my patient information quickly and efficiently. This video is going to help me get one step closer toward that goal! Thank you so much for all of your resources. I'm one of those nursing students that gets "picked on" from time to time for constantly reading and trying to stay ahead, but it is my goal to excel in this career and to continue learning and moving up in the field of nursing for as long as I can. Your videos, podcasts, and website resources have been a phenomenal source of support and information.

I made my own report sheets, then copied them at work. Very helpful! Always divided by body systems. It makes sense.

I'm a nursing student first semester of clinicals. I love this but when I'm taking report from night shift nurses they are all over when they are giving report . How do you handle that.?
Thank you so much for sharing this. My goal it to work towards a BSN and i function best when i get to know what the big picture is with anything that Im learning. Great! This is what they teach U in sch, but it’s completely different in the real world where you have 7 sick patients with thousand and one interventions for each. I report why the pt is admitted, when, what’s being done, and what to watch out for, like the abnormals, etc.

Do you use a sharpie on shift like you do in the video, or do you use a different pen.

@@lorifella2877 I have been a RN three years now. I use a pencil now. If you have complex patients you will run out of room and also you may need to write things down at a moments notice and it helps to be able to erase it and put it in a more logical spot.
