Every time i was in singapore i visited this mysterious shop without fail and left intrigued without knowing what and whether i should get one of these masterpieces - i often saw this lady working on some pieces and thought of properly photographing the processes but never did - i am very glad CNA did this documentary. Its an art that should never be forgotton. I hope the next generation keeps it going without mutating it.
Be more mindful and sensitive about the dress code when doing this type of religion related documentaries/shows. Nonetheless, this episode is an informative one. Hopefully this precious heritage and traditiobn will continue to last for generations to come.
The comment in the video on wanting to make figurines not for traditional praying but for secular use, as a way for people to connect with the qualities that they associate with the characters of the figurines, I think is a great idea for making it more relevant to more people. Just like how people keep a figurine of a super hero. If they do come up with this type of figurines, I would be very keen to get one.

In the West we have university courses with a degree for Artist Makers surely the university of Singapore should have such a course and graduates interested in effigy production? This art is so beautiful and as an important part of the culture cannot be permitted to die.

I have never seen a journalist in the US wear similar outfits as this reporter did in her first 2 outfits. Especially when discussing deity and religion related topics. Not a prude…just find it interesting how things are done in other parts of the world.
I think she tries too hard to look modern and sexy by showing excessive amount of skin. I see a lot of short ladies try too hard like her cos they don’t have long legs so they have to show skin in other ways e.g. midriff, or wear super short to overcompensate. She also has extremely thick makeup and over-the-top hairstyle to make up for ordinary looks. It screams ‘insecurity’. She should just be herself. She hosts fine. She should build inner confidence instead of seeking attention through attire.
