- Flat beam from a log. In this video, I'll show some woodworking/carpentry techniques and tricks. Two cuts of plywood will help to make an even beam from a log. Enjoy!

How he still has his fingers amazes me the most!
Wham working as a cabinet builder, I needed to cut a round, 42”, decorative post, so it would fit on the outside corner of the kitchen island. Boss said here, do it. They had no idea how. I measured the largest diameter of the post, cut a piece of plywood square to that dimension, found the center of both ply and post and connected them at both ends. Now the post doesn’t roll. But the post was too long to fit the table saw fence. Took some 8’ cut-offs of plywood and built a saddle fence that slipped over the saw fence. Worked perfectly. Saved it for future jobs. Built one for home for my own projects. Boss was impressed.
Excellent technique
29th like. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work 🌞
Great vid! 🤘😊
Super!
Excellent! I've got some logs, I will try the first demo. Thanks.
I use a sled but your technique is much easier. And it makes finding the center easier too, I never thought of that.
Anyone who has worked as a carpenter for 30 years should not saw lumber without adhering to safety.
Do you need a towel?
@@michaelbradford4444 Not necessary. My fingers do not bleed because I observe safety.
@@fdsfsdfsfd Towel was for your tears…and the tears of all safety-minded that missed the point of videos like these. 😢
Gonna have to hide in my safe space after watching such a scary video! 🫃🏼
The person in this video clearly hasn't been a wood worker for that long, because they don't use a push stick and still have all their fingers. 😅
Excellent tips and solutions.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos…always something new to learn.
good ideas~~
I've been using a different technique for a long time with the same result. Cutting a straight edge, that is.

Сколько пальцев на руках ?
35 yrs. for me and the only one I knew was the log mill!
🙏👏👍💪
То что ты там дрова отгружаешь это не плотник. Ну а иначе что тебя тут удивило?
Как свои три пальца...
И что тут нового и полезного? У плотника своё ремесло, а у столяра своё😀
What was the dowel with the wedge in it for?
It's used to fit tight the legs of stools and chairs (rustic, country style).
@@antoniolopes8776 Except that it needs a shoulder on the underneath else as you put weight on it the leg would push upwards. Good idea, half implemented.
@@Woodwork-Learner You are right, that is what I would do.🤔
While these are interesting, the whole Table Saw bit is dangerous af. Do not use dangerous wood working tools like table saws without proper protective tools! It should be pretty obvious to keep your fingers as far as possible from the saw. Especially a saw that has been raised that high up! They are after all, large metal blades that are rotating at 100s-1000s a second.
🤗😎👍💚💚💚
Definitely not the hands of a 30 year carpenter
Mine are nice and soft, I build staircases.
Wearing gloves as often as possible and moisturizing helps you not have the hard dry cracked hands that no one likes to touch.
I cut on our 10hp tablesaw all day with gloves.
My other coworkers spend a lot of time dealing with plywood slivers. 😂
Drilling a larger hole with the forstner bit? Forget waiting for the glue to dry get another piece of wood, drill that one and use it as a guide. Typical TikTok type techniques.
Not much impressed. A lot of these techniques have been known for decades.
Time is money. As a carpenter for OVER 30 years, this is the dumbest waste of time, money, and effort I've EVER seen..If you don't have a milled S4S chunk of wood laying around that you could use; you're not a carpenter.
Sometimes the kind of wood you are dealing with is precious, not in the market, like pear tree, apple tree, orange tree or lemon tree, plum or peach or almond. The «waste» would still be used in marquetry or inlay.
Plus the time needed for the wood to be dry enough in the first place.

Nothing worth knowing there
