@@bridlenshoemaker I am in Madras (was born here so like the old name! 🤪) ; so can I buy a shoe from you here? Even if you don’t have a retail outlet, can I come over to the factory and buy a pair ?
After seeing Bridlen's work at the London Super Trunk show for two years in a row, I ordered two pairs of their Kiso loafers, which are gorgeous shoes. The suede is thick, soft, almost fluffy to the touch, and so comfortable. And all that for €140,00 a pair after shipping, import tax and VAT. I am chuffed!
i'd say they're the best kept secret in footwear but they've been active in Japan and (continental) Europe for decades, they're just now making their way through U.S. shoe nerds like me!
I really liked Bridlen as a brand prior to this video but you both did a Phenomenal job of taking that to the next level, the attention to detail and true care for the craft / end functionality in a factory setting is incredibly impressive and deserving of further recognition.
Can't say it , since my country banned Chinese markets in many sectors and started manufacturing there own The products relly more than back then , I thought it's me being reckless
The dynamics of mixing traditional with modern is taking Bridlen to a different direction. The way things are being explained brings so much clarity to the process of Bridlen being a quality shoemaker. Great video Nick. Had been waiting for your videos from your Indian tour.
I own 16 pairs of shoes and boots from this brand. Though I own other international shoe brand like Allen Edmonds, but I truly love this brand. Unlike Allen Edmonds last which seems very generic, Bridlen last is very dynamic and aesthetically pleasing. Their quality is like Carmina but their price point is much more cheaper. They are truly value for money brand
I dig that you cover the complete spectrum from big name to small and almost unknown makers . Thank you for the effort you put out to provide such killer content
I own Indian made shoes and boots from Loake (who have their own factory), Barker's and Oliver Sweeney. These are all using top quality leather including Horween Chromexcel and European calf leather and are either Goodyear Welted, Norvege stitched or genuine moccasin from the onstruction. And they are all very well made and indistinguishable from footwear made in Western countries.
Great video. How incredibly impressive! I’m completely sold on Bridlen. Their quality must surely rival the top Northamptonshire makers. I’m very impressed. Love the softer insoles. I need those at my age. Great job, Nick. 😁👍
Thanks for showing this manufacturing of shoes so many processes from start to finish i hope people can appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making high quality handmade leather shoes 👍🙏
Great to see this. I'm an indian origin dude actually planning to go to India to start a company like this too!! So it's good to see the talent and standards.
Brilliant, illuminating video. The interviewer is good and knows his onions. Or, in this case, leather. And the Indian bloke is impressive and obviously these guys make some of the finest shoes in the world. Wow, bloody cool, I say!
I don't know if Bridlen is the first maker ofGoodyear welted shoes in India, but they certainly aren't the only ones. Craft and Glory, and Fellmonger are two others that I know of ....
it is not. There are like 100s of goodyear welted shoe makers in India including extended outlets of western brands like Jhonston and Murphy. Many do not have a website but some starts poping up. just google it.

As the man who conceived the leather programme funded by the UNDP over three decades back to modernize the leather industry I am gratified. The work done by Sahasranaman under programme was outstanding.
I really like the explanation of why things were done in their way. Function over tradition. I’d choose this brand over the American and British shoemakers now. Just need to get my hands on one first to ensure it is consistent with the video.
Wow, this looks like the real deal. Very impressive (and encouraging!) to see such high quality footwear coming out of India. I'm already eyeing up those Jodhpurs on their website... An important question that I don't think was addressed is re-soling. Does Bridlen have a service like, say, Loake does? I know an answer to this would definitely influence my purchasing decisions.
Their shoes cost a whopping 21k in India and that's their starting price. No wonder they're not that popular in India. But seems like they're worth it.
Fascinating video as usual; that welting is incredible! These destination videos don't look easy to make. Nick you look a little peaky. Was it something you ate?

I thought that was a cool technique too, the goodyear/hand welt hybrid. There’s a bunch of brands that do that, like Viberg, I think Lofgren, etc. Even Luosjiet does that on some of their nicer models, Xb too . Those machines are $$$ though, but yk how it is with factories.. great video man, lots of cool, interesting stuff. I learned something JFB (Have a black teacore belt) that I didn’t know, and he raised a really good point about the glue. Personally I prefer unlined, but still.. the vamp area. Good content Nick, you’re one of the few covering footwear in a way that’s legit, educated, and relevant, even to the know-it-all boot nerds like myself 😂 Nah jk, idk it all. Are the insoles channeled, but not feathered? I think I understood that the inseaming machine sews through uncarved substance of the insole, rather than through the upturned rib. Is it piercing out the side of the insole, like a Norwegian?
I am from Chennai, Last year while on a trip to Frankfurt I saw a lovely pair of leather shoes , was in two minds to buy it or not due to its price , decided not to buy and went back to my hotel, could not resist but decided to buy ! Since I know where to get the factory rejects at dirt cheap prices, did not buy it…

Please make a video on vegan leather, the minute he said animal has a way to stretch in one direction it completely through me off. Lets save animals. There is no need to kill animals when there are plenty of other ways to make shoes.
The idea of vegan leather as a universal "better" option is more complex than it appears: while it avoids animal products, most vegan leathers are plastic-based (often polyurethane or PVC), which are neither biodegradable nor sustainable, and can be environmentally damaging. Unlike animal leather, which is durable and naturally breathable, synthetic leathers lack these qualities and may need frequent replacement, adding to waste. While vegan leather has its appeal, natural leather can be more environmentally sustainable in some respects. It’s biodegradable, unlike most plastic-based vegan leathers, which take centuries to decompose and can release microplastics into ecosystems. Natural leather often comes as a byproduct of the meat industry, utilizing resources that would otherwise go to waste. Additionally, with proper care, leather goods can last decades, reducing the need for frequent replacements and lowering overall waste. While reducing animal harm is important, we should balance this with awareness of the environmental costs of synthetic alternatives. I am sorry if you are a running a vegan evangelism NGO ! I cannot be "force converted". AARAM PORUL INBAM VEEDU
The hybrid hand welt is not that. A hand welt is a different and tighter sunken in stitch than what a machine can do. That type of leather channeling with a good year machine has been done before. The reason for hand welting, is that, a properly done hand welted shoe has next to hair thin boar/plastic bristles for the absolutely thinnest hand pierced holes. That is so you get a 'water tight seal'. He basically showed you a variation of a good year welt, which is not more special in it's own right, and is not novel either. It is nothing to do with hand welting.

Thank you Adam for the kind words. It honestly is a labour of love for us at the factory.
India is like China. They can make the lowest grade product, or the best of the premium products. It all depends on what you're willing to pay for.
When you've got a billion people then anything is possible 😉
india can give highest quality product at the lowest price but not in china....
