Beautiful coats! You’re a very talented seamstress! Thank you for sharing this with us. I have made one coat, really more of a jacket with a hood, it was lined. I wear is a lot. I look forward to making a tailored coat like the ones you have made. I would need to make a muslin first and that would build my confidence. Thank you again 😊
Thank you for all the details you included in your reviews for each pattern, I've never made a coat but I want to eventually and it was so helpful to hear the pros and cons of each one!
This is my second time hearing of Bella Loves Patterns and now I’m sold! All of your coats look amazing to me, but I also see the details you explained. Thanks for sharing.
Your coats are great! I really like the red one...probably colour oreference. Went on coat making binge earlier this year. Started with one I found on RUclips called a bog Coat, had a vintage blanket for the fabric, lined it, no pockets as not enough blanket could be salvaged, left sleeves frayed. Love it. Next used old pattern in my stash with techniques from tessuti patterns mentioned by vlogger Kristin from dahlia sewciety...seams are overlapped, lined only sleeves....love it. Then took old Jean jacket of mine and copied it in denim and upholstery fabric, son did fasteners bc I don't have the hand strength (old)...he, my harshest critic said it looked professional. Then I tried a Chanel jacket style, had 1 metre of woven large houndstooth fabric, was told not enough for a jacket, found youtube help on line, used some techniques learned from Irish vlogger sewcustom, learned much and yes, it was made with 1 metre! Made pieced quilt reversible jacket...nice but too bulky, would redo not using quilting fabric. Next used new pattern from vogue in faux leather, bought Teflon presser foot after I finished it, so could have been better (esp re collar and lapel), but love it. Also learned some tailoring from Whitney at tomkat stitchery. Probably missed a few coats/jackets. I am coated out! Altho manecoarse on RUclips just did a hooded coat maybe mccalls, that looks tempting.
I just found your channel and have already watched four videos! You are just delightful, and I love the clothing that you make and the thought you put into them. Thank you for sharing!
Well done Sarah... beautiful creations ! I have never made a coat but you have inspired me to try sometime, maybe next winter! I love your style, simple but classy... good luck on all your 2023 projects , a big hug from USA🥰
Thank you so much! 😊 And yes, go for it! It can be intimidating at first, but wool is such one of my favorite fabrics to work with - very satisfying - and if you concentrate on just each step at a time, it won't be too overwhelming. The hardest part is choosing your pattern and fabric!
Nice to discover you and your sewing projects, I love most of the patterns you made in all your videos and the way you made your clothes , I will probably try the Isla trench and the traveller coat, thank you very much, I am excited to see your next video ! I live in the North of Paris by the way ;)
Thank you and hello fellow Parisian! Both the Isla coat and the Traveller coat are probably my most worn depending on the season. I highly recommend them!
Wow gorgeous coats you’ve made! So inspiring! The red coat might be the best tailored it still looks beautiful on you. I was hoping you’d talk about the dress you’re wearing, want this pattern! Awesome videos, thanks
Thank you so much! The purple dress I was wearing under the red coat in the picture is the Butterick 6453 pattern and it is indeed one of my favorite party dresses 😊 Otherwise, I was wearing it with a Sew Over It Heather dress in the video!
Thanks for sharing all your coat makes! Tha last one is certainly a stunner, so beautiful and elegant! I’m glad you bring up the point of using tailoring tecniques to get a good result and your recommendation of the pattern company that made the pattern for the last coat.
Thanks for this video! I am currently in the process of making my first coat and naturally I got stuck… I used a Patrones pattern, simple but very poorly explained and missing all facing and lining details… I will eventually take it to my tailor teacher but I am losing so much time… love your coats, thank you for sharing the patterns and the fabrics!
I just found your channel and your coats are spectacular. Thank you for all the details. Sewing a proper coat is beyond me a the moment, but this was inspiring . I would have been thrilled to have made the burgundy Anna coat! So much to learn 🇨🇦
What a beautiful coat wardrobe you’ve created! Thanks for the inspiration! PS I have found flannel backed satin at JoAnn Fabrics. Not sure if the quality is all that great, but it could work for a nice warm lining.
I really appreciate all the details you've included in this video! I was wondering where you get your 'regular lining fabric'? all of the stuff in my country feels horribly stiff
I love all of your coats. They look great. Have you ever made the Lola coat from Sew Over It? I have that pattern but haven’t found a fabric I like for it. Have you seen the Deadstock Hunter Green Cashmere Coating at Blackbird Fabrics? It is so gorgeous I’m very tempted to get it.
Thank you! I have not yet made the Lola coat by Sew Over It, but I have the pattern just in case inspiration strikes! That fabric you mentioned looks so lush and luxuriously soft! 🥰
You are so skillful! I really admire you and your makes, the cashmere coat looks impeccable. You could wear the red one without doubt, no one except you will notice anything amiss (but I am guilty of this too). I am preparing for my first coat (Charm patterns Princess coat) and it is nerve wrecking, as my biggest fear is wasting so much fabric, time and money for something that might not be wearable or will not fit me. To top it off some of my latest makes did not end up that well. Wish you the best of luck and have a nice day :)
Would you consider taking the red coat apart and re-sewing now that you have more experience? I think it's a lovely colour on you. I'm very new to sewing, still just repairing and slightly altering garments that I already own. I am very reluctant to spend big money on something and then be too disappointed to wear it!
That's a good idea! Although, it's already a very slim coat compared to others and I wouldn't have very much fabric (width-wise) to work with. A tricky one, but I'll think on it! I understand your hesitation, fabric can sometimes be somewhat of an investment!
Lovely video Sarah 🥰. I just bought the Traveller Coat pattern and looking forward to make it 😊. Can you tell me, which size you made, because I think the fit ist perfect on you ❤. Thank you in advance. Lovely regards
I made the size 6 in the 5’7” height group because the size 6 corresponded best with my upper half (there was enough incorporated ease to not need to grade out for my slightly wider hips) and I’m 5’5”. I hope that helps and happy sewing!

Thank you so much for answer me 🥰. Yeah, I think I will also make size 6, but I’m actually 1,67 m but I bought the pattern for 5’3”, so now I am afraid the sleeve will be too short for me 🙈. We will see 😊. Thank you, I wish you a beautiful day and a successful week 😊🥰
@@thanhstorf9036 I hope it'll be okay! You can probably check the length of the sleeve by measuring from the sleeve head to the hem of the pattern piece (subtracting the seam allowances) and comparing it to your arm. In any case, it's a great coat pattern and I wish you happy sewing!
That sounds frustrating. Finding a good fusible interfacing can be tough. I use fusible interfacing that I buy from my local haberdashery (that they cut off a roll, so I don't know the brand name), but Vliesine tends to have good fusible interfacings too.
I just can't get over the fact that it's all handmade. All your coats are so well made and beautiful.
Thank you! 😊

That trench is amazing
Thank you! It was so hard to make, but I wear it so often in both the spring and the fall that the effort was entirely worth it 😊

Wow, really beautiful work! Where did you learn tailoring techniques?
Thank you! I learned mainly from lots of online research and then over time, working with different coat patterns and their instructions 😊
Have you considered the Rumana Coat from By Hand London? It's on my to-make list!
I have! Now that I know how very warm long coats are, the Rumana coat has definitely become even more appealing 😊
