Its not "not letting to pick you up anymore" its just that the cross over that statue needs a very specific angle to pick it up, and the morning star power up you couldnt pick it up cause you already had full power
People don't understand how important this game is. This is the very first 3D Castlevania game ever to start off with. Forget about graphics - this is Nintendo 64 in 1998!!! Go back in time and imagine seeing this for the first time compared to 2D games! If you actually take the time to play it, you'll notice so many details for example: at the mansion, the one room wth two doors to it has curtains, those curtains MOVE wth the wind and IF you get close to them, you hear the sound the the fabric moving. Aside from graphics, story: every detail, character, name, has a story behind! Details: have you noticed how the very first boss, the ape skeleton, jumps off to the water and stares at you from the bottom? And then it comes back later on!!!! Not to mention the many endings you can get off this game. At the very end, the graphics at the castle keep where Dracula's coffin is, the shadows... The epic scenarios and feelings when fighting Drago Dracula - it takes you straight to an apocalyptic time! Legacy of Darkness? Haven't been able to beat it but the many times I've played it, I've noticed how it's just an additive to the first one and honestly, avery vague effort was made to make the game impress. I cannot end this comment without mentioning the most mysterious, ambient consistent, dramatic, gothic, soundtracks of this game. To this day, I hear to these songs while working. It's just really sad how people trash talk this game just because they don't know half of what it's about. Dracula's castle - inspired on the very authentic "Dracula's" castle from real life in Germany if I'm not mistaken. Dracula's voice!! No better, more perfect voicing could've been done. Low, dark intimidating. Man, this is really a master piece and i can only dream of a remake that makes justice to this original piece.
Funny they named the vampire Charlie Vincent, I wonder if that was an homage to the main protagonists in the 1980s Fright Night Charlie Brewster and Peter Vincent.
The wrestling games on N64 were great. Me and my friends played them for hours when we were kids and we weren't even into watching wrestling. Thats how good those games were.
WWF No Mercy, and WrestleMania 2000, as well as WCW vs NWO Revenge are all still incredibly fun wrestling games! And from the best era of wrestling by far!

I’m so glad I still have my N64! Got a good collection of games but don’t have either Castlevania. Legacy of Darkness is way too expensive now, but I do plan on getting this game soon. I think the atmosphere is great. Yeah the platforming looks pretty bad, mostly because of the camera; but fighting the monsters looks fun. Your play-throughs are always awesome Erin! 🙂
Trust me Erin Legacy of Darkness is WAY BETTER.. It's the directors cut of this with four stories improved controls sub weapon level ups and attack upgrades. I love these games a lot. They were my first Castlevania games. Keep it up!

I've had the other Castlevania 64 for years after buying it brand new on clearance at a KB Toys, I never really got in to it an didnt even remember what it was called until you mentioned it in this video :D
I was inspired by another youtuber (ty2358) who speedruns the game, to beat this game myself. About a week ago I finally beat the game using an emulator and using A LOT of save states lol. Henry, Reinhardt and Carrie have bad endings... for Henry depending of how many children you failed to rescue if the time runs out, Reinhardt and Carrie if you spend more than 7 in-game days, you fight an optional Super Boss that ONLY appears if said condition happens, if that fight triggers, then you get the bad ending after you deal with the 1st phase of Dracula, of course, that bad ending with both Reinhardt and Carrie was carried from the OG Castlevania 64, also you can get with those 2 characters and Cornell another optional Super Boss... if you spend too much money with the contract and oh boy... that fight is a pain to deal with, and the worst part is that is very likely that you end up with little to no stuff to use for the final battle if you get involved in that optional fight... which is more like a punishment for buying too many items). A funny thing about both versions of Castlevania 64, the JPN version don't need a controller pack to save your progress (other games like Goemon's Great Adventure ALSO save without controller pack in the JPN version)... unlike the USA and EUR versions.
As usual Erin you are at the top of your game when you stream Castlevania. This was so much fun! Sucks what happened at the end. They are very stingy with the save points and it could have definitely needed a map. Are there any mods of this?
The game has its faults but it's not irredeemable. There's charm to it it just has the curse of early 3D development history upon it. It deserves a remaster.

100%. Irks me how this games hated for things most other 3D games had issues with as well. Tomb Raider, RE, MGS, they all get passes for things that CV "got wrong". Not fanboying when I say the 64 CVs have better controls than those other games, give someone Tomb Raider for the first time in 2021 vs this games and I'm sure they'd have a better time here.
I have a lot of unironic nostalgia for this game. Granted, it also, on a mechanical level, something I want to play again anytime soon, the aesthetics, extremely unique story and set-piece structure that feels like an old horror film as much as any videogame... the whole section in the manor, the rose garden, curtains in the foggy wind.... and that there were two characters who actually had interrelated stories, so that only playing both gives you the full picture... I'll never forget the ending to the boy's campaign, how subversive it was. Only real negative is the difficulty that is related to platforming, especially in the boy's crystal jumping area (yes there are a number of character exclusive levels), and figuring out the cryptic shit with the merchant, sun and moon cards... just how the damn idiosyncratic game works in general. But if you can look beyond some of those things, and especially if you're an oldschool Castlevania fan, I would call this game a must-play, simply because it is the only pure attempt Konami made to bring Castlevania into 3D after the advent of Mario 64, Ocarina, etc. The two PS2 games, while to me good games and decent Castlevavia in their own right, are very modern in their sensibilities, and Lords of Shadow is the best God of War game (truly, I see it as a way better game than any of those, despite ripping them off). CV64 is the only 3D entry in the series that feels like it is really Castlevania, and that's due due to the game being like a love letter to or amalgamation of the classic games. I couldn't care less if the opening forest is foggy and dull looking.... because Castlevania is supposed to open in the forest outside the castle. I don't care that the nitro is finicky, because the level is fascinating, and the boss is a direct connection to Rondo. I don't care that some of the platforming is BS. when the game makes me feel like it had a lot of heart put into it, and if full of touches only old fans would notice or appreciate.
Hi Erin, I remember playing Castlevania 64 during my senior year in high school. It was fun playing that game. I really hope it comes to the Nintendo Switch sometime soon.
this game is excellent ( a bit rough around the edges) but hoping you try to finish it. i've played the hell out of it and can provide tips if you need them but you may wanna figure it out for yourself.
They were never bad games they aged poorly James admitted that the review was for laughs and was to point out frustrating flaws.he's actually been wanting to give it a fair shot
This game... mmmh... for me, the transition to 3d wouldn't have been so dramatically different for Castlevania if the tunes that made the series so famous were present somehow here. The camera is also hell on a screen for sure, but that was not much of an issue back then I think... we didn't know much better. Goemon (Mystical Ninja) was one of my favorite games of the snes, and when it jumped to 3d on the n64, it was indeed different, but the soundtrack of the n64 game is awesome and well fondly remembered... so that made it less traumatic for me... still, you're the Castlevania Lady from the internets, so about time you played this ;) Still watching your playthrough.. let's see if you end up hating it or not hating it so much haha ;)
Yeah I definitely think there should have been music in this. (I know it's in SOME places, but most of it seems to be atmospheric or silent.) And yeah the camera sucks but I still had fun.
Implying this game's soundtrack is bad? Plus there are some classic tunes here (Bloody Tears has a moment, Divine Bloodlines from Rondo is the title screen song, some of the boss fights remix Rondo's few boss songs). Plus isn't it better to have even more great new music to enjoy? We wouldn't get any memorable tunes without new ones coming up (and SOTN didn't really have many classic songs in it outside the Saturn port)
@@TheT3rr0rMask I'm not saying the soundtrack is bad, just not so infectious as the previous ones, more relaxed and atmospheric, and yes there are some classics, but there's no new hits, like Cross a Fear, or Aquarius or SImon's theme from SCIV, all of them new in their respective entries and also killer ones. Symphony's soundtrack is way catchier than this, I was a N64 kid and I was damn jealous of that game, and a big part of it was its soundtrack, it beat castlevania 64's ass anytime, and I was really spoiled with Konami back then, the n64 Castlevania was definitely a step back in the music department, in my opinion.
I'm still sad that you never returned to Resident Evil 4 after getting killed by that lake monster. I thought you were going to return to that game, but you never did. I still think you would have started liking it if you just played it longer.
@@ErinPlaysExtras That would sure be awesome! I love that game so much that I played all the way through 3 or 4 times. Each time on a different console (I think they were all on different consoles. Maybe only 2 different consoles). Which is VERY rare for me. Surprisingly I never played any HD versions (yet). The Wii version was surprisingly my favorite because of the Wii controls. That's one of the rare cases of a Wii game actually improving the game play instead of destroying it, like in many games.
@@ErinPlaysExtras always helping :) BTW good and bad endings depend on how long it takes to get to the Castle Keep. But I won't spoil anything for Reinhardt OR Carrie it's a good surprise :)
You could put on some music from a _real_ Castlevania game... ^_^ This game needs to be remade as a hack of Tomb Raider 3. N64 was just a waste of time. Like, under a dozen 'passable' games on the system, total; if that..? It was the beginning of the end for Nintendo. Seems like it's only a matter of time before they go the way of SNK and SEGA, unless they manage a belated removal of head-from-ass.
No Castlevania IV? Seems like an odd omission for a this channel. I can see you're more of a genesis girl, so I get that... but it's still one of the greats if you like the series. My personal favorite game in it by a wide margin, because the aesthetic flow is very much like a good film, if one knows the game well enough to go right through without a death, which is yet another reason I love 4, the game is infinitely more fair than any other classic game in the series, without ever being easy, and I can reliably beat it in somewhere under 2 hours to this day no matter how many years go by between plays. I am new to your channel, so I feel like I'm being too presumptuous already, lol..... but it you just happen to be a genesis girl who was always told that 4 was trash that only had a couple of bad mode 7 gimmicks (the exact same thing happened with kids with a snes and Bloodlines, we found reasons to dismiss it and only as an adult with an emulator did I admit to myself that it wasn't at all a bad game, just very different from 4. Should I just watch your other Castlevania videos for answers, I suppose? nevermind about CVIV, saw the main channel. If you don't find the music special, the trip up the clock tower, then Slogra, Gabon, and Death in succession with that perfect score and the sunset in the background as you travel up.... to that ending credits music... 4 is all about aesthetics, plus it's the only old one (besides arguably Rondo) that is actually fair and beatable difficulty wise without having to grind past tough rooms for hours like in many of the others.
I've streamed it before but I guess I never uploaded it here. Anyway, I did a video on the game on my main channel and I played it before Bloodlines. I like it alright and I think it's a beautiful looking game, I just find some of the levels too long. But I know that's an unpopular opinion lol. I do understand why people love it, I just love the NES games so much I like that style best :) Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the games and I'm glad you found my channel!
also reason you have unlimited gold is because you are playing on easy, you also cant finish the game on easy, you can only go half way. Some people in your chat got no idea what they are talking about lol, and the whole " your inventory is maxed" is also wrong.
@@ErinPlaysExtras good to hear, the game does get harder, i think thats where it loses some people but you did very well so far. Sometimes the difficulty is the games fault though, it has its flaws. Chainsaw frankenstein drops infinite chickens by the way lol
Its funny you chose easy, cus you can't even beat the game on easy, half way through you're going to get an end message card saying that if you want to continue the rest of the game you got to play it on normal XD
@@ErinPlaysExtras I think Controller paks only work with real physical games and not Everdrive I'm pretty sure Mike has both games in his collection. The saves should work fine
@@ErinPlaysExtras Honestly, the two difficulty's aren't that different, you're still gonna get your ass kicked on the fifth level no matter the difficulty.

I really liked this game back in the day. It's the first Castlevania game I beat...🤷🏾♂️
I had to cut back on wall meat 🍗, too much sodium 🧂
😆
55:25 - LMFAO
Ha! That was so soul crushing.
You reminded me of that Billy Idol song. 😀
I like it. This and Curse of Darkness are really good.
I had to laugh at your first death, that part of the game claimed many lives.
Love this game back in the day.
Hi Erin, I remember playing Castlevania 64 during my senior year in high school. It was fun playing that game. I really hope it comes to the Nintendo Switch sometime soon.
"Fuuuuck" Erin 2021
Please tell me you are going to finish a full playthrough, maybe on Legacy of Darkness
this game is excellent ( a bit rough around the edges) but hoping you try to finish it. i've played the hell out of it and can provide tips if you need them but you may wanna figure it out for yourself.
2:58:52. I think the way you say it, is the way it is usually said, in English at least.
You did such a good job playing this. I wish I had picked Carrie back when I played this. Schneider's whip was a bit unwhieldy.
Aw thanks! Yeah I haven't tried using him yet. I like Carrie cuz your shots don't have to be super accurate.
why did it sound like sarcasm when you talked about the skeletons on motorcycles?
47:15 sums this up so far haha
I like this one but the camera is a nightmare
This kinda looks fun.. I'm weird though because I like alot of bad games.
They were never bad games they aged poorly
James admitted that the review was for laughs and was to point out frustrating flaws.he's actually been wanting to give it a fair shot
i would play it on the n64
The girls projectile weapon looks like it really sucks compared to the whip.
It's actually pretty sweet cuz it's basically a heat seeking weapon. Which is helpful since I have trouble with the camera angles in this game.
yeah, a lot of people don't like Castlevania 64 because they have no idea
All the times I played this game I never had gotten the bad ending because of Time only got the bad ending for buying 30k worth of stuff from rennon
Yeah, that game was a little nerve racking to stream unfortunately. I liked it though so maybe I'll come back to it :)
NEVER play on Easy Erin! The game WILL NOT let you play past the Castle Center.
Oh welp. I didn't know that. That sucks.
@@ErinPlaysExtras always helping :)
BTW good and bad endings depend on how long it takes to get to the Castle Keep.
But I won't spoil anything for Reinhardt OR Carrie it's a good surprise :)
You could put on some music from a _real_ Castlevania game... ^_^
This game needs to be remade as a hack of Tomb Raider 3.
I think it's shitty but I still like it. The bomb part is what's annoying.
Yeah I'm dreading getting to that part.
also reason you have unlimited gold is because you are playing on easy, you also cant finish the game on easy, you can only go half way. Some people in your chat got no idea what they are talking about lol, and the whole " your inventory is maxed" is also wrong.
Ah, good to know. Long story short, had to start the game over so I'm learning, lol.
@@ErinPlaysExtras good to hear, the game does get harder, i think thats where it loses some people but you did very well so far. Sometimes the difficulty is the games fault though, it has its flaws. Chainsaw frankenstein drops infinite chickens by the way lol
Play Crow64
y do this to urself
Its funny you chose easy, cus you can't even beat the game on easy, half way through you're going to get an end message card saying that if you want to continue the rest of the game you got to play it on normal XD
Yeah, didn't know that until after posting this. The save file didn't work anyway so I had to start over, lol.
@@ErinPlaysExtras I think Controller paks only work with real physical games and not Everdrive
I'm pretty sure Mike has both games in his collection. The saves should work fine
@@ErinPlaysExtras Honestly, the two difficulty's aren't that different, you're still gonna get your ass kicked on the fifth level no matter the difficulty.
Yeah I own the cart and switched out memory cards. It’s all good now 👍🏻
@@ErinPlaysExtras mind if I share more tips for you Erin? :)
In easy you have unlimited money
I love this game, but it aged like butt
Bone daddy …..
Worst Castlevania
Far from it. haunted Castle is worse.
Legacy of darkness is the better way to play this game
@@SharonisCarin321 for Haunted Castle you need the right version otherwise is impossible, but it's a pretty solid Castlevania!
@@SharonisCarin321 Legacy yes|
No. Nobody likes it.
Just people trolling.
lol that's what I thought until I played it.
I love Castlevania 64 and Legacy of Darkness no bs.
Sorry Erin. Snooze fest
