  • Escape the Winter Blues with an Abundant Indoor GreenStalk Harvest
In today's video, we are harvesting some of the vegetables we have been growing vertically in our indoor garden here in zone 5 Wisconsin.
Some of the vegetables are root crops like radishes, and some of the harvest is focused on turnip greens from our 7 top turnips. Oh, and you are going to love the way our swiss chard looks!
When it comes to growing vegetables indoors and growing vegetables vertically, we think the GreenStalk is a great setup, but we will leave that up to you to decide.
Oh, and one more thing. We are seeing something else show up in our garden that we aren't fond of. APHIDS! So, it looks like we will need to get come more ladybugs to help us prevent an infestation.
We hope you enjoy this indoor garden tour and this indoor garden vegetable harvest.
Thank you so much for watching!

Happy indoor gardening! I've had luck with a neem soap spray. It also helps kill fungus gnat eggs. It's almost spring! ❤

In Japan the turnip greens are very treasured. We make Japanese pickles several ways it is to us as common as kimchee is to koreans we eat it with our meals.

I have Aphids in my indoor garden and I have Ladybugs 🐞 in my fridge and everywhere else. The first buyer (last year) provided a bag that I could close so they couldn't get out of the fridge but this current seller had nothing like that so I have them in my fridge 😳 and everywhere else. I have three growing areas and they are doing their job.

I have the exact same greenhouse in the dinning room for seed starting. I didn't do a greenstalk indoors this year just too much going on.

Where do you get your ladybugs from?

About the aphids -- I'm wondering if you raised the brix level of your plants, would the aphids leave them alone? I might be saying some of this a little wrong, because I"m new to the concept of brix yet. But I believe brix is a measure of the amount of natural sugars that are in the plant. Stronger plants naturally contain of these natural sugars - and - if insects try to feed on that high brix plant, the insect will not do well and likely could die. Insects can't digest the natural sugars. The theory is that bugs bother weak plants (indoor grown plants can be weak) because there isn't enough sugar to keep them away. Now don't ask me how to measure brix level - but - I do know what one way to raise brix levels is feeding watered down milk or spraying it as a foliar feed. I've used milk for my outdoor plants with great success on being more resistant to insects. However, I believe that once you have a really weak plant that the bugs want to eat you are not going to be successful in trying to turn it into a strong plant. The best successes I've had were prevention. I do occasional give watered down milk to my plants - without much rhyme or reasons - and they do well. (I don't bother buying them skim milk like others recommend, I just use what I buy for myself - full fat milk.) I bought some spearmint plants home from the grocery store that were already weak and wimpy - and those I could NOT salvage from the aphids with milk. So .. prevention for your next crop ... might be your ticket out of Groundhog's Day for Aphids. ;-)

Did the insect happen but they are too close?

Great question. I am thinking the aphids are there from previous growing seasons. They are really hard to fully get rid of, and once introduced Lady Bugs really helps, but you have to be very vigilant.
