  • The video shows the plot of the game "Homeworld 1". (This is the movie based on the game "Homeworld").
This is my biggest job. More than two months were spent on this video. Dialogues, audio tracks were extracted from files and rearranged, and all subtitles were re-written (including for clips between missions). The interface elements were redesigned and used in the videos to clarify the details of the world and convey the style of the game. Most of the video consists of the gameplay I recorded and edited.
For its production, 600 Gb of video footage of gameplay from the games "Homeworld" and "Deserts of Kharak" were recorded. I additionally created several dozen cut scenes in the style of the game itself.
P.s. The subtitles were modified and rewritten, because the in-game subtitles were very dim, blurry and covered most of the screen. Also added translations into German, Spanish and Russian, which can be enabled in the video settings.

The Hiigarans and the Taidanni were always rivals; however, the Hiigarans found the 2nd Core and used it to defeat the Taidans.
The Galactic Council, alongside the Bentusi, would ask them to stop; however the Hiigarans would not stop and had most of their fleet destroyed in the fighting, allowing the Taidanni to recover and siege Higara.
While some called for the Higarans to be destroyed, they were instead exiled to Kharak, with the condition they'll never make hyperspace drives ever again.
That of course was broken 4000 years later by the Kushan, the descendants of the Higarans, who had no idea the deal had been in place to begin with.
So yes, the old Hiigarans did commit atrocities against the Taidanni-
But also no, as the people you play as, their descendants ( the Kushan and the Mothership of Kharak) did not know about the deal or their past.

I remember playing the demo (yeah, games had demos that took hours upon hours to download at the earliest of broadband speeds in the late 90's) of Homeworld. I didn't like Starcraft, I had played Command and Conquer but was a bit worn out of that too. So, I gave Homeworld demo a go. I played the demo like 5 times through, straight. I couldn't stop raving about it to my brother and my parents, how this little demo finally captured what a SPACE-based RTS should feel like, should play like. Two months before my 18th birthday, my brother dropped by with a wrapped present. I was like "... but, my birthday is in November?" and he simply said "Consider this an early present then."
Inside, still wrapped in the plastic shrinkwrap from the store, was Homeworld. Let's just say that for about a year and a half afterwards, I was replaying one game over and over and over whenever I got bored or tired of other games. The moment that the Remastered Collection was announced, I preordered it. Deserts of Kharak? Same thing. When the pre-order opens for Homeworld 3, I will be instantly pre-ordering that too.

I never played this game, so I'm sure there is a lot of depth to it, but what I mostly admired was the Flight of the Navigator/Bladerunner type music design throughout. It really lent to the vibe and atmosphere (or lack there of, because space) of the game, adding to the sense of immersion in the vastness of space travel. Plus, the sound when hyperdrive engages is awesome. Cool story, too.

My pet peeve is the initial push “Let’s go back to our home planet.” And they all agreed. It wouldn’t work like that realistically. Hiigara is not the home planet of current-generation Kushans, Kharak is. Why would the average person care about some distant ancestral home?
Sure, after Kharak is destroyed, they need a new home. And you can argue they can’t just settle for the first inhabitable planet, with the Taaidan on the hunt.
But before Kharak is destroyed, their motive for leaving is flimsy.

“OK. So let’s make this clear. We were exiled by some powerful space-civilization, and we spent the last gazillion years on this desert planet.”
    “Right.”
“And you want us to build WHAT?”
    “A mothership.”
    “A what?”
“A mothership. You know, it’s like a camel, but bigger, and you can travel across the galaxy in it.”
    “The freaking GALAXY?”
    “Yeah.”
    “Why?”
    “Dunno. Better scenery I guess.”
    “Alright, let’s do it.”
    “You sure?”
    “Yeah, what the heck.”

I looooooooove this game and the storytelling in the cutscenes.... I am absolutely bummed I cannot get the old versions working on my pc... but luckily I have to GOG versions... even though homeworld 1 is set in the homeworld 2 engine... it still captures my attention completely whenever I jump in the games...

I completed Homeworld in the summer of 2001. I was at university and played on a friend's computer. It was tough going at times. Great fun though.
I bought Homeworld 2 but never got around to playing it.
Considering how old the game is I can't fault how good it still looks.
Thank you for putting this together.

Right up there as the best game I ever played. And the lol factor when multiplaying and getting all my ships stolen by salvage corvettes.

Thank you so much. But now I would edit differently. There is too much "empty gameplay" in the video. I used to want to convey the slowness of space. It seems like it was a stupid decision:)

I know this is just a game but the Savage ship don't fly through the wreckage of a dead ship after detaching from the Hull, unless the game has a glitch.

I just noticed how civilized Hiigarans / Kharak people were to Bentusi when they first met. They were just brutally and mercilessly attacked, their species almost driven to extinction, and then another space ship comes and they simply send an ambassador. I guess at this point they figured out that if everyone is hostlie, then they must be fucked, but its still a very calm attitude.
