You can start with a reading/book about the 4 Noble Truths, the principle of Karma and rebirth. These are the main topics which are common in every thought in the Buddhism frame.

There are also many layers of causation that can affect your life such as pre-birth plans, karma good & bad, higher self, spirit guides, other people, free will, etc. When you account for this your control is less than many LOA adherents would accept. But our purpose is greater than simply getting what we want.
