The turning point of the Philippines at Miss Universe. After missing out the Top 5 during this year, the controversy on the national director's control over their delegates' wardrobe (with this gown being made by a foreign designer if I recall) pushed them to switch to wearing creations by their homegrown designers, helping them win 2 crowns and extend their still-ongoing semifinal streak after this.

Philippines this time was the reason why Pia Wutzbach had the chance to pick her own gown created by a filipino designer. She was perfect with the Pink gown she wore at the rehearsal but the organization did not allow her to wear it because of the contract. The most saddest moment for me being a a huge fan of MU.

She could've be in top 5 if she wore the Pink Leo Almodal Gown during rehearsals since the gown she used was loose and had to be altered she could've been in the top 5
There was no way they were putting her in the Top 5 given the poor speaking abilities of most of the finalists (the two Q&A segments that followed this gown portion were HORRENDOUS). There would have been no competition if she had entered the Top 5. She’d eat them all alive.

It's a good thing by next year Philippines has won it a comeback from the Philippines because of the last Miss Universe 2012 1st Runner Up Janine Tugonon we FILIPINO's know that she's the true winner of that night but she didn't wear the crown because Trump wanted a Latina or an American to win so biased.

@@isaaclim8645 nope. Maybe 2021. But the camerawork was terrible. And in 2018 I hated the x shaped stage. I prefer the traditional pageant stage with back stairs. 2014 stage was just fine. Reflected the host city architecture. Not just a couple of boring led screens

@@isaaclim8645 you’re right. All of us we have different opinions. I personally hate 2004 because of the TONS of stairs that the stage had. 2002 was modern and very ahead of its time. But believe me, even 2014 or 2009 being the worst years of Trump Era, are a hundred times better than current IMG production. Zinmanco work with MU production has suffered a BIG downgrade since Endeavor/IMG took over Miss Universe

Now that I look at it again my top 10 in descending order are
1. Jamaica (Perfection redefined) 1:52 to 2:20
2. Espanía (very beautiful gown and most beautiful face) 5:10 to 5:34
3. Argentina (Natural Charm and very romantic, also the most elegant gown and performance) 3:11 to 3:35
4. Netherlands (most unique colour and most fresh colour ...the last time a MU winner wore yellow was Dayana Mendoza and it ofcourse remains the most unique gown...also the most exotic face) 5:35 to 5:58
5. Ukrania (Very risky gown as ball room themed gown more suited for Miss World but she pulled it off amazingly) 2:46 to 3:10
6. Colombia (Nothing special or out of ordinary) 2:21 to 2:45
7. Australia (the cutest gown and cutest face) 6:23 to 6:46
8. USA (gown colour is bit dull and her walk is also too mundane) 6:47 to 7:10
9. Phillipines (wrong outfit and make up) 3:36 to 4:02
10. Venezuela (wardrobe disaster) 5:59 to 6:22
I would have easily replaced Colombia with Argentina or Spain...Spain would have been my sentimental winner and Jamaica should have won that year
1. Colombia - this looks like an awards dress, super classy and she looked like a star
2. Jamaica - I would have preferred slicked back hair, but otherwise, perfection
3. Ukraine - bond femme fatale stunning
4. Spain - gorgeous, except I didn’t like how the bust line fit (it looked like she was on the verge of a wardrobe malfunction)
5. USA - the least competitive of the top 5, but better than the 5 below; a gorgeous woman
6. Netherlands - that face is stunning, but the gown was not top 5 material

9. Philippines (honestly I think regardless of the gown, she wasn’t going to make the top 5 - too competitive a year)
10. Venezuela (the gown was just too short!!)
