I love how they symbolized the end of the show with that last shot. An old, worn-out, broken clone helmet. Clones are a thing from the past. The republic and its Grand Army is over. Clone wars is over. It's all over. The present is now Vader and the Empire.

Not that I didn't like the music, but I think what would've made that scene better is the somg that plays when Darth Vader walks onto the bridge of the Republic Cruiser with Sidious looking at the Death Star being created. That song would've fit perfectly in that scene because of the symbolism. It's both tragic and dark because Anakin is coming to grips with what he has become. It's the start of a downward spiral for him and he reflects on that when he looked at Sidious and then at the Death Star. When he finds the Republic Cruiser and Ashoka's lightsaber, he is reminded of memories that he has been trying to suppress for years. He thinks of his old life, of Ashoke, Padme and his role in what happened tp the galaxy and then he is realizes that he can't change what has happened and that he has no choice but to continue being Sidious' puppet. They both convey the same things; regret, helplessness, anger and sadness. The somg would've been perfect to show that again

This is Master Obi Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic, have fallen with a dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi. Trust in The Force. Do not return to the Temple…that time has past. And our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged. Our trust. Our faith. Our friendships. But we must persevere. And in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always.

Where Ahsoka and Rex meet with Obi Wan on tatooine who has baby luke on his way to the lars moisture farm. To me, Ahsoka and Rex were always the better parts of Anakin. To see that they survived, and in a way, using what Anakin taught them is beautiful. The Jedi Order forbade attachments but here we see this genuine bond, a bond formed by a General, a Master, and its what survives Order 66. Rex's forming of the Good Soldier vs The Soldier, and Ahsoka's acceptance of what a Jedi is, these are the identities that emerged from the ashes of the Grand Army of the Republic.
Anakin may have been lost, but what he left behind definitely stayed.

Simply Beautiful: The Clone Wars is the ultimate Tragedy of the Star Wars universe, more than Darth Maul's fall from grace and struggle to gain some semblance of power, Steela Gerrera's death at the hands of the Separatist, Satine's death at Maul's hand in front of Obi-wan, Ventress' search for vengeance leading to her people's death, Anakin's turn to the dark side, Obi-wan's failure as a mentor to Anakin, all of it. Like you said: every single victory, every life that was "saved", every casualty( ally, enemy, civilian) in the name of "Republic" against the Separatist, it all amounted to nothing more than corruption, lies, and needless slaughter of life. We all knew that the Clone Wars was orchestrated by Sidious, but the cinematic entries in this franchise aren't really able to communicate that level of just despair...and when the Clone Wars ended with Ashoka leaving the Jedi, while incredibly effecting and devastating, it doesn't really try(not that needed to) explore the wider galaxy at that moment, and in the end, it feels...right: Ashoka left of here own volition due to the hubris of the Jedi Council (amongst other things), it was her choice, and she was able to hold her head high knowing she made the choice that she felt needed to make, despite how hard it was, and makes peace with it.
Here, there is no sense, no reasoning, nor any sense of peace: it is simply cold, unfeeling, death as she is hunted down by her former friends and allies, some of whom still wear helmets adorned with markings in honor of her...her, their ally, and trusted leader. It is cruel in a way that transcends the Maul's attempts to hurt Kenobi or Dooku ordering the extermination of Ventress' people, it is as heartbreaking as a brother losing his sister as they fight to liberate their homeworld from tyrants or husband turning his back on everything he had become to save his wife, only to be the one to kill her in the end, and is as depressing as seeing a man do his best to teach and instruct his pupil, who then becomes his brother only for that same pupil, that brother, to call everything the mentor has ever known "evil".
In this show lies some of the harshest depictions of war in the medium of animation, from lengths those trying to remain uninvolved must take, the damage and death the conflict brings to those whose only due was being somewhere critical/inconvenient for either side, to the immediate casualties of brothers in arms, the struggle to win and to continue on after success and/or failure to simply be a survivor. Paired with this, however, are small demonstrations of the good inherits in all living beings: from people standing up against oppressive regimes with diplomacy and careful maneuvering when violence is not a necessity, people communicating peace and understanding while educating each other in ways only they can, to the friendships, literally tested in battle, formed and the fellowship that creates genuine connections.
This last episode, though, shows how everything we've seen in the last 6 seasons, all the friendships forged and/or broken, the struggles, the pain, the relief, the salvation, damnation, anger, happiness, growth, deterioration, success, failure, none of it would help stop Sidious from rising to power, destroying the Jedi, and subjugating the Galaxy to rampant fear, slavery, and more death. It throws every "victory" we've seen under shadow of dread that it won't matter in the end. Before this episode (and arguably the last one too) we could pretend that anything the Jedi or the GAR did meant something, that victory was truly a victory and not the machinations of one man, one monster, playing chess master simply orchestrating events for his own purposes, that the loss we faced were in service of the "greater good" when in reality, the "greater good" is like just, a construct of the basis currently in power, and the people in power are not ... , shall we say, noble. But here, we have unarguable proof of all of this, as the symbol of the GAR's might and power, the Venator class star destroyer, the "Jedi" Cruiser, broken, collapsing in on itself and on fire, as it falls from the sky. The proof that Jesse's tattoo, and what it used to represent, is able to turn on the very people trying to protect that symbolism because, at the end of the day, the symbol is only that, a symbol, which can change at the drop of a helmet.
In the end, this episode solidified all of this: the betrayal, the death, and overwhelming sense of emptiness at the realization that it was all the machination of a single man trying to rule the galaxy with an iron fist. I will always be grateful that we could see the end of this honestly amazing journey, the culmination of one of the biggest conflicts in this Galaxy far, far away. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the Clone Wars ends not with a bang, but whimper as the last vestiges of the old war burying those they called brothers and allies, even after those same people turned their guns on them. This episode is simply amazing, emotional, action-packed, brutal, and above all else, it provides a sense of closure, no matter how much we may not want it, to see all these character's efforts rendered mote, that could only come from this series. Love you Filoni, and You too Blind Wave for saying all things in my head out loud: We missed you Shane, glad you could make, for this last chapter of the Clone Wars.

The graveyard Ahsoka made had 39 bodies (3 rows of 13). That leaves 104 men either killed on Mandalore or unaccounted for. That’s why it’s so sad. Rex could only find so many men to bury

The symbolism is incredible from Ashoka refusing to kill her fellow clones and rex not wanting to kill his brothers even while order 66 has taken control of them. Jessie essentially becoming the final antagonist of the series stopping at nothing to stop the two people he believed were traitors. The final moments of the clones being buried with Jessie's helmet showing not only his death but the death of the republic (his helmet design). The reveal of Vader as he ignites and holds Ashoka's blue lightsaber Anakin made while Morai flies above. I actually think we probably have the best version of this that we could have gotten. For one, it was so well written and directed that I still felt the full tension even knowing where they all end up. But more importantly, this finale was basically treated like a film that they cut up into four parts. This wouldn't have had the budget back then, and Rebels' existance also gave clear direction to where they needed to take each character with this finale, much like how the existance of revenge of the sith had to guide anakin's arc. I highly doubt we would have gotten the Maul that we got without everything he did in rebels giving them guidance on where to take him. Rebels is no where near as good as clone wars, but CW sets such a high bar that Rebels is still a good show.

I grew up watching The Clone Wars and after seeing this finale for the first time all those years ago, it was a definitely an emotional experience. Because not only is it the end of the show itself but it’s also the end to some of my childhood, that I know I’ll never get back.

Seeing Aaron cry like that at the end was a lot of us. Of course we’d want something fan servicey like Maul vs Vader, but it’s not like it can’t happen in the future. I think for this arc/short movie, this was an amazing way to end things. That last shot is gonna stick with me for a long time.

I saw someone that reacted to this as well mentioned that if you look into Vader’s mask, you can see his eyes aren’t sith yellow as he was holding ahsoka’s lightsaber. You’d have to brighten the image to see it, but even without noticing it, that scene is so powerful...

Those last 5 minutes were just beautiful , I’m sad to see a part of my childhood go but I’m glad it finally got its ending. The Clone Wars animation/art style is unmatched, I really hope the next animated show follows in that direction with the animation and tone especially. The Clone Wars is Star Wars at its absolute best. Also glad to see Shane back!

I love the Blade Runner style music they used at the end in the aftermath of Order 66. Especially when we see the transition from the Republic era to the Imperial era.

I think as someone who was a little kid and was scared of the clones because of their treachery its pretty powerful to see ahoska still refuse to kill them when most everyone else would've mowed them down like obi wan and yoda

Anakin/Vader permanently stuck between the past and the present, forever bound to relive the nightmares again and again. The final shot with the reflection on the helmet visor is a perfect way to show Vader's past staring back at him. The Republic is dead, the clones died with it - not for it. But the past isn't, it will never stop haunting Anakin.
    What a perfect finale.

I can't believe it's already been 4 years since this season came out. I remember the end of this episode, i'm sitting at my desk watching it on the computer and once the credits were rolling, I was just silent with some teary eyes. I watched the episode in the afternoon, and the rest of the day I was just so sad but happy. I mean, Star Wars has been a cornerstone of my entire life, especially my childhood. The only console games my parents would let us play were Nintendo or Star Wars, the main books we were allowed to read were Star Wars (parents had to read the books first to make sure they were appropriate for us). So, this episode coming to an end, I was seeing my entire childhood playing in my mind with that somber music in the background. Even the toys I had were Star Wars action figures, coloring books, lunchboxes, my bedroom ceiling had glow in the dark X-Wings, Tie Fighters, and Lightsabers on it. My bedsheets were Star Wars, my shirts were mostly Star Wars. I've been a DnD DM for a few years now with off and on groups, but the one that lasted the longest (almost an entire year) was a Star Wars campaign I created. They ended this show as a perfect 10/10. Dang though, I still just see my childhood flash through my mind during the end of this episode. Gorgeous music for a gorgeous ending to a gorgeous series. Best way to end an era.

I would also would have liked Kit Fisto to make an appearance, if not just to have Phil LaMarr play him again.
Hell, even just a little more Mace Windu. Litterally the last scene he was in was being snide to Ahsoka, and then we hear him die off screen.

Its amazing the things this final episode does.
The crashing of the Venator as the Clone Wars ends and the Empire begins.
The death of the Clones transitioning to the Rise of the Stormtrooper.
Ahsoka letting Maul and all of it go one final time to save herself and Rex.
The Clones calling Ahsoka "it" rather than a Jedi or she, nothing more than a thing to put down.
The contrast of clones with Helmets and Rex without his.
The callback to the last episode, that without the war, they wouldn't exist, but without them, the Jedi still would.
Vader's contrast in the snow finding Ahsoka's lightsaber, how well he still looks with a blue lightsaber, the eye in the visor, that deep down Anakin is still there, which contrasts with their next meeting in the Sith Temple, full red, Anakin has a brief moment when she says she won't leave, only for Vader to take over completely now.
Ahsoka and Rex escaping on a Y-Wing, leaving behind the Republic for the future Rebellion.
Maul when he destroyed the hyperdrive echoing the red/blue that Kylo does when he kills Han. The Light and the Dark Sides of the Force, that in some way him crashing that ship is what helped save Ahsoka and Rex, despite him being purely chaotic.
Maul escaping on the same ship that we first saw Ahsoka on, she doesn't get to leave as she arrived, with smiles and happiness despite war.
That somewhere deep down Ahsoka probably knows Maul was right the entire time, about Sidious, about Anakin, about it all.
Revenge of the Sith ultimately started with a crashing ship, and The Clone Wars ends with a crashing ship. The Separatists crashed and burned, followed soon by the Grand Republic.
The final shot of Vader in the reflection, the Clone Wars reflecting what all of this chaos of Order 66 left too, a fallen knight walking away from his past to the harshness of the empire and tyrannical rule.
Honestly I could go on for the beautiful poetry the episode does, the music, the visuals, etc.

My favorite comment has to be from rex during the umbar arc "sir I followed your plan to the letter a plan witch was in my opinion was severely flawed a plan that cost us men not clones men and just as it's my duty to follow your order I have a duty to protect those men."

Being that Dave Filoni is also a lord of the rings fan, and there are lord of the rings hints and connections throughout the clone wars and rebels, it's kinda interesting to see some hints of that in this episode as well. Ahsoka wore a white cloak in the last rebels episode and a grey cloak in this episode. So, in this episode she would be Ahsoka the grey, and in the epilogue of the last rebels episode (which took place after the defeat of the empire) she had basically become Ahsoka the white.

I hope there's a new series done in the style of clone wars that covers the stories directly after order 66, sortof the same time frame as the mandalorian, but not star wars rebels. Just more of that clone wars reminiscent empire time frame
