  • This is footage of Wrightsville Beach, NC during Hurricane Fran 9-5-95 and for the following 3-4 weeks. I converted the vhs to digital and did some editing. I am new to editing!! The video is in chronological order by date footage was taken. Some of the footage was kept for the audio as much as the video. The interviews were taken once the residents were allowed to return to their homes. This is being published to RUclips 12-27-11. I just wanted to post this as most residents of the beach have never seen what actually happened during the height of the storm. Jim

13:40 - Ed your neighbor appears to be driving an 83 - 85 Buick Skylark. I guess it could handle driving through all of that water pretty well!

I lived at Carolina Beach, NC during this storm. With 5 friends, I decided to stay and ride the storm out. Big mistake! At an elevated area of the island we didn't get washed away however we had no water, power, or plumbing for days! Trees were downed across roads so we hiked around on foot to see the damage. It was absolutely devastating! The only good thing about that day was the rare opportunity of experiencing the eye of a hurricane. I've never seen so many vibrant stars in my entire life!

Does any amateur footage exist from Topsail Island during Fran that anyone knows of?
