    Thank you so much! With your help I just revived my drill, she's special to me for she's the first of many tools I bought. I hope she'll stick with me for another 8 years!

    In the old days we used makita drills with the old long NIcd batteries. Those drills shut of when overheated. It seems that makita does not build in a temperature switch. From video's i've seen the brushless drills do not smoke as fast as the ones with a brush motor.

      I agree there are thermal fuses in some windings typically transformers. The brushless motors have alot of feedback to the controller chip so have more info on what's going on in the motor.
      But as we know that all comes at a price.
      Cheers

    Thought I’d mention when you said it had loads of brush left the issue was the dirt it’s the same with dewalt mine what I thought needed brushes turned out to be clogged with sh•t basically oil and god knows what but after a clean it works as good as new if you would have cleaned that motor/brushed motor you would have saved a bit of money as it looked like it only needed a quick clean and it seemed to have quite a bit of power in it hope you kept it as a spare incase it is needed in future anyway nice vid I’ve liked and subscribed

      Thanks Brad.
      I did keep the motor not got a clue where though! It is pretty knackered it got so hot the winding lacquer has partially melted so its not a good runner anymore.

    Thanks for the video. I just bought a MAKITA from my local Cashconverter. Was a bargain at 37€ with case + 2batteries. Bearings seem a shade wobbly - but maybe i can sort that out. i was able to compare it´s spin speed to your´s at the end of the video. Almost an E note so must be right. Time to play some `POUNDCAKE Van Halen. ! Cheers from Spain

      Hi It was a genuine part from an eBay seller here in the UK cant remember who there are plenty to choose from!

  • @paredding
    @paredding Год назад

    Just had same go on mine and no easy way to access the brushes even then, As you implied with all the dirt inside, it could also be the windings too so safest bet is to replace the motor. Wondering how to keep the dirt out from now on to prevent repeat occurance as it packed up on ly after about 3 years of light use.

    • @CazualHaze
      @CazualHaze  Год назад +1

      Hi @paredding
      I think its best to not block the airflow through the motor it will overheat and fail early. Sounds like that's what has happened to yours. The new motor is cheap and its an easy fix!

    My Makita 18V DUB182Z wirings melted and smokes. But there no videos or articles on what wire size AWG to be used for replacement. Any advice?

    • @CazualHaze
      @CazualHaze  2 года назад

      Hard to know you could try and ring your local repair centre and see if they have a kit. There might be a spares kit for it online and finally you could measure the wire you have and then look up the AWG equivalent.
      You may have melted the trigger speed controller if it still runs at full speed with no variable speed then its toast! A new one will probably come with wires attached.
      Good luck.

    So it loooks like on this model, you cant just renew the brushes as they seem to be built in.

    • @CazualHaze
      @CazualHaze  5 месяцев назад

      Hi @ericreckless541 I guess you could but it might be fiddly the commutator might need truing up as well! So I went for the easy option the motor was only a few dollar pounds.
