Thank God for the men that brought Southern back... Thank you to Dr. Mohler for standing firm in the faith!

Now there is a new threat and Dr. Mohler is one of the leading proponents. Calvinism has taken hold in the seminary and in many areas of traditional Baptist belief. Evangelism has always been one of the tenets of the faith but now many are asking if God determines who will go to hell and who to heaven then why evangelize. I look forward to the day when this ungodly and unscriptural disease will be expunged from what we love above being Baptist.

@@jimbuford4147 Evangelism continues to be a primary tenet at Southern and the good majority (if not all) of Baptist Faith & Message affirming churches. Regardless of one's view on election/predestination (John 6:44, Eph 1:4, Eph 2:8-10, 2 Thess 2:13-14, Rom 8:29-30, 2 Tim 1:9), I assume this is the Calvinist doctrine of which you are referring, both (quasi) reformed-leaning and non-reformed leaning Southern Baptist churches remain faithful in proclaiming the gospel of Christ, baptizing believers, and discipling followers of Christ. Also, I have never met anyone (student or faculty) at Southern that advocates a strong determinist view, but rather, a compatibilist view. As a side note, I inserted quasi-reformed because let's be honest, no SBC aligned church can call itself reformed in a Calvinist or Lutheran sense of the word since all Southern Baptists hold to autonomous local congregational polity, believer's baptism, and a symbolic view of the Lord's Supper.

@@RichardIddings A question if you don't mind? Does Dr. Mohler believe God is sovereign in that He determines who will accept Christ as Savior or does he allow that all men, not just the "elect," are wooed by the Holy Spirit to come to salvation in Christ and those who refuse sign their condemnation rather than it being done by God?

@@jimbuford4147 THANK YOU for bringing that into the light! How can S. Baptists follow after Calvin's doctrine? I will never understand why this is taking place and it is rampant among S. Baptists!! For many, it spelled leaving the S. Baptists... That is a Presbyterian belief..... If you want to be a Presbyterian, then be one. But many a pastor has brought Calvinism into the church. To me, it is a shame. It changes so many thoughts about salvation and the ''alter call''.. The church is still in such danger! So sad.

As a young guy diving into Baptist history, it just amazes me how the liberalism could take hold at that institution. It truly boggles the mind.

As a student as SBTS in the 1970s, I saw none of this "liberalism" that is talked about. I had classes with John Polhill, Donald Williams, Frank Tupper, Frank Stagg and many music professors. They were all quite conservative.
This was no "conservative resurgence;" it was a take-over by fundamentalists, not conservatives. The Baptist tradition in the South of my youth was "never a creed," but the fundamentalists installed creedalism in Baptist life.
Now, Paige Patterson is disgraced by his treatment of women and his own perfidy. May God have mercy on his soul.

Those same people who have opposed Mohler (dark Wednesday) have been gathering strength. Southwestern Seminary is diametrically opposed to his Calvinism.
The SBC is doomed to splintering!
