This is one of the best descriptions of how to hit a draw I have ever watched! The keeping the back shoulder over the back foot through impact is a very understandable piece I think I've been missing!
This instructor is the best of the bunch. I'd pay for lessons from him. At the 5:20 mark, "making sure the shoulder feels as if it stays behind your back foot." That, to me, is the "magic move". This is where most people screw up and they cast the club. I highly recommend this video to anyone struggling with their swing.
By FAR the best explanation of how to hit a draw I have ever seen. Not over simplified yet thorough and concise. Very well done Michael. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
I think this is the best video about the golf swing I've ever watched. I've been working on fixing my over the top swing. Its improved, but that tip about keeping your shoulder back, is so simple. I hit balls today. I couldn't believe what a difference it made. The straightness and ball height were noticeably improved. Always a work in progress, but I believe this will get me on the right path . What an excellent instructor.
Great clear presentation! "Top Speed Golf" is the best and is allowing me to refine the steps to resolve my struggles and diminish frustrations. We'll never perfect this game, that is one of the reasons we love it.
This guy is a great addition to the top speed team and his plain speaking explanations certainly get to the point and are well demonstrated and easy to comprehend. Well done micheal can’t wait to see more of your skilful mansplaining videos
@@shaunsmith937 yeah, I wrote that in jest....but there's a serious side to it too....timing key.....I did it when I was a teen, took 20 years off golf, then took it out of my swing when I started playing again as an adult....and, that was a stupid idea....but, it was easy to put back....... then I added another one...ps. after a few years of wonder, that foot tap is related to the action of the torso and timing, no the hands and arms.......once you have tried to understand the foot tap in relation to your hands and arms you have f'ed yourself with a swing thought......my sense is, you have added too much mental input..... tap it and keep it with your torso and shoulder action...... your mind can only have so much input into the action of the torso.... thus it's quieter up there on the backswing...
Can’t wait to try this. Lately no matter how much I try to swing in to out I just end up coming over the top even more somehow. Nothing but pulls and slices, can’t hit it to the right no matter how hard I try haha. I think keeping the right shoulder back is the trick that I’m missing, should be a great feel move for me. Thanks!
I just want to say, Clay you have helped me so much, I have played 9 holes 15 times in my life, your videos are so informative!, the best instructions thank you man! These videos are really helping people no doubt! Its night and day compared to my first outing and my last and its all credit to you. I'm not the best in my group, but I was the worst, I'm not anymore. All thanks to you.
Mike, you're my favorite Top Speed instructor because you don't mince words or try to oversell concepts or products. As usual this is an excellent explanation of how to hit a true draw. That said, could you do a video that includes a demonstration (perhaps with a camera angle directly above the club at set-up, overhead view) for this statement regarding draws, "the clubface must be open to the target line but closed to the club path"? I understand the concept entirely but I have a feeling that these adjustments are very subtle, very slight. Is that correct? I mean it can't be more than a degree or two. Any more than very slight and I end up hitting unpredictable draws/hooks. Anyway, could you please demonstrate the subtleties of what is meant by a face open to the target line (to get the ball started to the right) and closed to the club path (which you demonstrated beautifully in the video)? Thanks man, appreciate it! Or you can email me directly, I'm a TSG member.
Great video and I have been using these tips with some success so far. Not really able to draw my irons yet but these tips are definitely helping me hit my irons very straight. Only negative is I seem to be hitting a lot of iron shots fat? Not sure if this is due to casting the club or flipping at impact. Any tips to stop the fat shots would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Never heard a pro say these two things in order to hit a draw. " (1)The right elbow stays below the left elbow on all shots if youre rt handed " (2) The club is open at address and quickly closes at impact. So easy to understand, but seldom mentioned.❤ because you were probably taught at an early age and assume everyone knows that. So clear and simple to understand.
Like this. Had a club fitting recently and trackman showed my swing path between 4 and 6 degrees in to out. However the problem is that my low point is a small amount behind the ball causing fat shots or thins in I flip the club. Thoughts!!!
Cool video. I can hit true draws by following-through right of the target line as described. However, I find it encourages early-extension as you momentum is pulling forward.
Very well explained. Ive always naturally hit a draw, and when it starts to slice, these are really great things to keep in mind. Top notch video bro. Cheers from Niagara 🇨🇦✌️
Merry Christmas to me. You just showed up on my algorithms and blessed me with a key swing thought to try and do to improve my game. Merry Christmas to you because you just gained a new subscriber. lol
I'm a bit confused about swinging in to out then keep swinging OUT or back in? Some instructors say to swing on an Arc. In - out - In. I can hit a draw when I swing in-out-in When I try to swing in-out-out the face is open and I hit a push or push-fade. What is the swing and hand path...In-Out-In or in-out-out? Thanks
I was taught to hit a true draw with a slightly open club face at address...try it if you're having problems with swallowing your club...this really works for beginners that wont change their stong grip
I can only hit a draw these days, in my younger years (15 years ago) I used to play a high cut. I for the life of me can't intentionally hit a slice, fade or cut (they do happen just not when I need them to)
Dude this happened to me I have no idea how. Been playing for about 10 years. When I first started all slice/cut/fade. I felt like it was overnight but like 5 years ago I just started hitting draws/hooks/pulls. Except for irons I hit them pretty straight honestly. It’s find it’s been way more difficult to control my game lol. I can’t for the life of me fade woods, hybrids, irons. Some tee shots with driver on dog legs right I can do it but feels very exaggerated. “You can talk to a fade, but a hook won't listen,” is REAL. Snap hooks suck balls, I’m pulling the shit out of iron approaches I can’t “snap” out of it lol. Used to be consistently mid 80s, I’m now consistently 90-95 I’ll be really happy with a day in the 80s. This game is such a pain.
A lot of great information. However, I wouldn't refer to that as a "True Draw" it's a push draw. Hell if you want to get technical a straight on swing plane with a slightly closed face is more of a true draw then a push draw.
Thank you for your feedback...We will reshoot the video ASAP Rocky and get that corrected. We certainly did not intentionally intend to confuse or mislead all of the RUclips golf pro viewership.
From my perspective, this is way too complicated to replicate on the golf course, especially when you have to shape different trajectories from one hole to the other.
You’re comparing a draw to a slice. Isn’t that the same as comparing a fade to a hook? Why not compare a fade to a draw and show the difference in out to in versus in to out?
here is my problem , not just you , but all golf tutors ,, in this video , 85% of your lesson is talking about the NEGATIVE things we do as golfers ,, when are you guys going to just teach us the right way , because to ME , its abit confusing ,, just show and teach us the right way , so we concentrate on that
Ok so you say just because the ball curves to the left doesn't mean it's a true draw??? Bet you can't explain the mathematics behind that.. Just because you can hit a draw on a simulation doesn't mean you have that consistency on the range or course.. I'm guessing you don't. There are obviously multiple ways to hit a ball left or right or straight. You saying that other people are not doing it the "true" way is like a baseball player saying, "there is only 1 way you can hit the ball to left field"... which is definitely false..
Can we get more videos from this guy (Michael?). He explains things in a relatable way that makes sense.

Are biceps a necessity at top speed golf?
Ok, on my downswing if I am I under the plan and swinging out with path closed am I not increasing risk of hitting a hosel rocket 🚀

Excellent.
Many thanks!
I just align my feet to the right & align the CF to the right, but less right than my feet. Ball start right. Ball curve left. 2 rights make a left!
All I have to do is swing normal for a draw, and aim to the left for a fade. I dont know how, or why I do that.

I was thinking the same thing, but I feel like going to the range to gain consistency is the key to this problem
I go under the plane but then the shank comes in to play.....
I would then try to hit the ball off of the toe until it works its way back to the middle. Play well! Nate | TSG Instructor

I liked the video, but very first shot was like, "let me show you a TRUE draw", and then proceeds to shoot a hook or something else...
That has nothing to do with the video
Golfers have an obsession with hitting a draw. If your natural shot shape is a fade, why change it?
If you have holes with dogleg left, or have to get around other obsticals like trees a s o it’s a benefit.
