I've had my 340t since 1982, it was new when I got it. My parents use to work for Yamaha making pianos and we could get instruments very cheap. It is my favorite acoustic guitar I've ever played. It just keeps getting better the older it gets too. Great guitar.
Hey Brian. These guitars are so highly unappreciated, and even though Yamaha has always made awesome guitars - electric and acoustic, they just don't get the attention they deserve. I was a lead vocalist/writer for over 25 years and I've met a TON of guitar players and very few have Yamaha guitars, and even fewer have their acoustics. I think a lot of this stems from the company, because Yamaha don't do a lot of advertisement, and you don't see them holding events as most other makers do regularly. I have no idea why they don't promote their guitars, and they haven't put out any new models in ages. The quality is either equal to the big name brands or superior. Their quality control is among the very best in the industry also. I own a rare black Yamaha FG 340. They're normally built in natural finished, but for reasons I haven't been able to find out they created a very limited number in black. These are hand made and my FG 340 is hands down they very best playing and sounding acoustic I've ever owned. I refer a rich tone with more middle than top end tone as opposed to a vast majority of acoustics which have a lot of high end tones. I've been a huge Beatles from the time I was 4 years old back in 1966. I have my older sisters to thank because as far back as I can recall I heard Beatles albums blasting throughout the house coming from their basement bedroom and rec room! I still remember exactly where I was when I heard they had split on my radio! I was so bummed out! ") McCartney
Thanks for background! Yes, Yamaha is one of those brands that makes everything like GE. I also think these are under appreciated guitars. I’ve handled a few but sold all the ones in my videos. However, I did just get a 345ii the other day. About to clean it and restring it. Will probably make a video soon too!
Black 340’s were the ones that normally would of been “seconds”, as the grain direction didn’t work on some guitars….So they painted them, and sold for full retail price….😆
Greetings. Could you tell me if the soundboard is spruce or laminate? If you know the specifics of the woods I would like to know a little more thanks. A hug from Italy...
The original FG340 was an ABSOLUTE DON of a guitar... I know.. it was my first guitar and I thought every guitar was nearly as good as it... how little I knew then LORD above AND ALL THE ORPHANS, I miss it!!
I have a FG-340t with serial number 206230822. Does that mean it's 1982? My friend whose guitar it used to be was told by a sound engineer it was from the 70s? Can anybody shed some light on this?
I bought a 340T new in 1981. Banged and bruised after 41 years it sounds as good as the day I bought it.

Great guitar.
I love the under appreciated guitars like these. You don’t need a $2000 guitar to sound good. Thanks for watching!
They sound really good through the vid
Appreciate it!

Yep. Your guitar was made June 23rd 1982.
Keşke böyle bir gitarım olsaydı sadece izlemek üzücü
Similar to my 340 ll, with the 3 pieces back.
