This is the BEST video! I wish I found it earlier in my day instead of wasting so much time trying to figure it out on my own. This was extremely helpful. Thank you so much!
This is great suff. I have been considering using a complete CRM-ERP system and am now convinced I can do exactly what I want using Lists. Thank you. 😎
Thanks for watching the video! If you found the video useful and want to help Argo and his Kibble company, please consider a like and subscribe 😉🐶 And here are the timestamps if you want to skip straight to the instructions! 00:00 Intro 00:28 Import list data from Excel to Microsoft Lists
Great video! Curious to how you handled importing the CHOICE column values though. After uploading the spreadsheet, CHOICE field values don't appear under "Column settings", but are still selectable when creating new records. It doesn't make sense and makes me hesitant to use this approach for larger spreadsheets.
Is there no easy way to select a whole column for copy/paste? Sure, clicking and dragging works great when there's not a lot of rows but what about lists with 1000+ records?
Thanks for the video! It is a great reference for creating a new list from data. Is there a way to import data to a currently existing list however? Thanks!
Hi.. I have some queries about Microsoft list...mostly 7-9nos.. But in last few days I am not able to resolve it. How can I connect with you for guidance?
Hi Russell, Great video, but I'm wondering if there is a way in which you can update the data in the excel file and automatically update the list, rather than have to re-import? Any help you can gice is much appreciated
Thanks Dave! You can probably do it although I've never tried. I'd look at Microsoft's Power Platform, specifically Power Automate to do that. At least it's a place to start investigating.
Thanks for the ideas on the workaround ideas. One additional problem is that I’ve got an Excel sheet with 500+ rows, and Lists only shows 100 rows at a time. So I have to cut and paste from Excel 5 or 6 times. Or I could waste my time trying to learn the obtuse logic of Power Automate, which MS pretends is a low-code/no-code solution. It’s ridiculous that Lists can’t recognise Excel dates. They’re both MA products, but they couldn’t manage or bother to link them up. I’m exploring Lists but I fail to see how it’s better than Excel. You can format Excel sheets extensively to make them easy to read; Lists is much less flexible. If you use the desktop app rather than clunky MS 365 online, you can create all sorts of custom userforms with VBA. In Lists, you can’t. Honestly, MS really sucks-bloated, clunky, overpriced. I don’t understand why more business don’t just switch to Linux. Is it because they feel the need to pay Billl Gates’s alimony?
Lists isn't perfect for sure. And I agree that Power Automate isn't easy to understand. But then neither is VBA. Recently, Lists seems to be recognizing dates from Excel with no problems at all. Lists isn't supposed to be a replacement for Excel. It's a work management and tracking solution. Excel is for number crunching primarily. Lists lets users create useful views and formatting with almost zero effort. For example, you can automatically create a calendar view. I don't believe that's possible in Excel. Similarly, you can create a gallery view in Lists that would take a lot of work to create in Excel. And you can share views with other users and input data easily using a form. It's just a different beast targeted at solving a particular problem in a simple and easy way. The new offline sync PWA functionality in Lists should make it much less clunky and perform more like a native desktop app. Although I've yet to see it appear or work in my M365 tenant. At the end of the day, pick the right tool for the job. If Lists isn't working for you, then maybe Excel is a better solution. And it also depends who is going to be using it.
@@RussellSmith Lists still can’t handle dates from Excel. Really, the problem is MS doesn’t make a decent tool for this purpose. Businesses remain wedded to Windows and MS 365 because it doesn’t occur to them that they can get better for cheaper. MS rolls out these half baked products and is having a laugh at our expense.
After importing data from Excel Sheet in MS LIST the Numbers are displayed in Arabic even after checking Region/Language/Keyboard Setting! Please help!!! I’ve tried everything
Hey Russel, have you had any lag issues with MS lists? I attempted to create a couple of lists where I work, but in many cases the items added to the list would disappear or the changes made to the item would never happen. Maybe it’s just our work VPN acting up as I have great internet, but I guess I just wanted to reach out and see if other people have experienced the same.

Thanks, it’s simple and easy to understand in very short period of time. Please accept my heart felted gratitude for your great public service.
I've been looking for how to import dates without scrambling them and this totorial had the answer! Thank you Russell!

Thank you so much for advising on importing dates. So useful!
The best part of your videos is the quality. The lighting is so cool. Specially that back drop. Hopefully you do a video on it on the future. 😊
Thanks Hovindu! Maybe I will if enough people are interested.

This was very helpful and more informative than other RUclips tutorials. Thank you 🙏🏽
You're so welcome!
Very simple et helpful video, great thanks !
Excellent clear step, by step instruction. My only criticism is that I found the "punch" sound effect quite annoying and distracting.
Glad it was useful! Sorry about the effects, I know they were too loud.
Outstanding. Well done. Thank you.
Cheers Russell, this was exactly the information I needed

How to add new rows from Excel to a pre-created Microsoft List? Also can we merge two Lists?
Is there a way of importing excel data massively (more tan 5000 rows)

Today I tried creating my first list in MS365. It imported the dates as dates, but decided to change them all by 1 day. How novel of it.

Do you know how to get URL links to import correctly?
Very helpful
Thanks!
How would you import into an existing List ?
Enjoy your video
Thanks!
What happen if the you update something on the excel file? Are the data on micrsoft list will update too?
No, it won't.
how to add reminder in same lists?

Hi Kevin. No, I haven't experienced that problem.
Is there a way to set one of the imported columns as the ID?
The first column is always the ID and it should be a unique value.
How does lists recognize or transfer the names of the reps into active directory names?
There's a field called 'Person' which allows you to select names directly from Azure AD.
Can i create list with multiple lists in it like multiple sheets in a singe excel spreadsheet?
No. But it is possible to integrate data from different lists in a limited way. But that's probably not what you are looking for.
internal names comes like field_1
I cannot select cells anymore
I'd try clearing your browser cache and reloading Lists.
