We want to share our passion for efficient, sustainable homesteading that brings the family together. On our homestead we do chemical-free gardening, grass-fed milk and beef, pastured eggs and broiler chickens, and free range children :) We love to go on adventures as a family, so if we're not workin on the farm, we're probably hiking or out getting ice cream. We're all into DIY, and being inventive and creative. We believe in homesteading that's sustainable, not just sustainable homesteading. In other words, we want to show you that homesteading doesn't have to wear you out to the point that you give it up. We've seen it happen, and almost came to that point ourselves. So go ahead and take a whack at that subscribe button if you'd like to join us on this crazy ride. Get ready to learn and be inspired! - Развлечения
Something you both are drilling home (intentional or not) - homesteading is not about feelings but accomplishments. You may not feel like doing something and may put it off but you will limit as to how long you will put it off. A very good principle for everyone in anything in life...
Procrastination is a Curse to a Gardner !!! lol 🪴💐🫶🏻
Right on! Extra motivating when I know ya'll are watchin 😉
Congrats on the new homestead addition. Nothing sweeter than any new life. Welcome little girl. ❤🐮
You guys are one of my favorite channels. As a homesteader for 12 years I still learn so much for y'all younger ones. Congrats on a BEAUTIFUL addition to your homestead. Keep it up😊
So good to hear, thank you!
I love your channel. I find that living in the big city, I really desire a simple life and am living vicariously through you guys. I know that you guys probably put in so much work in keeping a homestead but it seems so satisfying and beautiful. I love your videos. They are simple, honest and educational. I dream of a life like yours and hope that i will have that one day. Thank you, keep the videos coming. ❤
It is a lot of hard work! But it's truly fulfilling! Chase that dream.
Congrats on the heifer calf! Our milk cow had twin heifer calves a week ago! Huge shock for us!
That is awesome!
Love your channel, from Michigan I grew up on a dairy farm - many many moons ago - know the hard work of gardening, milking cows, etc. Your family is such an inspiration to others. I have learn so much from you.
Thanks for sharing. Glad you’re here 😊
I’m so happy to have found you guys. Soon you’ll have hundreds of thousands in your community - on your way there for sure! I’d love to hear more about all things homeschool on your end, knowing that homesteading is very much homeschool! Routines, living books you love, resources you appreciate.
Would love that too!! We homestead-learn (the word school makes me think institutional). Our kids love it, learn lots and work hard. They don’t like book work as much but they still learn the basics…
Thank you 😊 Those are things I'm sure we'll talk about here and there, but we're deliberately avoiding turning this into a homeschool channel 😂
You guys are quickly becoming some of my favorite families to follow on homesteading. I still live in a city with almost no yard to speak of, but I dream everyday about having some land and a nice little homestead to call my own. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us. Keeps my heart looking in the right direction ❤
You're so welcome. Keep dreaming!
So glad to see that I'm not the only one who carries hay in the car.
😂
We can our small potatoes, a lot of work at once, but then we have them when we want a quick meal.
Really love the story y'all r sharing. But the fact of how much info y'all r willing to share so others can have success really appreciate y'all 🙏
Our pleasure!
I love watching your channel. To see how you grow, preserve and then, put the food on the table is so valuable to new and older homesteaders. Bravo!
We burn in the spring nice and dry & kills the bugs & eggs - and use a 5 gallon propane tank with a Real weed burner torch and long hose. Didn’t mean to Steer you wrong. Such a pretty baby🥰
The burner would work much better I think 😊
I absolutely love your channel, and watch often. I admire your life choices that you share with us, and I truly believe your children will be blessed for it.
Congratulations on the beautiful calf! Hope mama and baby are healthy!
You have potatoes sprouting and I have a window full of onions sprouting. I finally cleaned, chopped and froze the last of my onions. I got the last of the cabbage and beets out of the garden and still have some carrots that get covered over nights under 35. I think your little surprise is really cute. Put the pick up truck on you Christmas list! God bless y'all and keep growing.
Will you guys do a video about finances and how it can relate to homesteading. You seem like you do things right. Youve mentioned things like getting your house paid off, saving money by building yourselves, saving for a truck, not taking out a bunch of debt etc. I would love to hear your perspective more on homesteading on a budget or things you do to remain frugal so you can afford the lifestyle. :)
Yeah, we're hoping to do a video about that sometime this winter.
I love the man van. I had Toyota tercel sedan that was my work truck. Hauling wrench's, chainsaws, gas and oil. Plus it had roof racks for hauling lumber, roofing, beds, even a rocking chair. Thanks for the calving check list.
Love it! 😊
Some day you will get a truck. My daily driver is a tandem 40 ton self loading flat deck/log truck. A little over kill when I am just going to the dentist, but otherwise super handy for hay hauling and feeding.@@morethanfarmers
What a smart cow Maddy is, she hung on to her calf until you got all ready.
I'm not an expert on silver, however I understand if you put a silver dollar or bar of silver in the milk it kills bacteria. Congratulations on the calf, best wishes. ❤
Interesting...
Congrats on the little stinker! Ours arrived October 28. We're drowning in milk now and making cheese and butter almost everyday. Enjoy!!
Congrats to you too!
Just wanted to say thanks for your video content. Having been on the land, but now in the city, coming across your channel inspires me to find some more land and go back living off grid. You are informative and your videos are well presented. I look forward to your weekly downloads and wish more than farmers continued growth and success.
Thank you! Blessings on your journey.
You could put the slips in water in the lounge or whichever room is warmish over winter and get a headstart in spring planting
Yup, I'm going through the same thing with my potatoes. My Ukons golds and my blue potatoes are good also. The reds are the only ones. I eat those little red precious gems right away. They are so delicious just boiled and smashed and butter. Nothing better than the baby reds. Yum!!! Should do a video on the making of your feeder rack with IBC tote. Lastly, I love how you guys are so prepared in the "what if" situations re: cow birthing. That speaks volumes about your great animal husbandry.
Right on! Here is a video of the hay feeder 😊 ruclips.net/video/ahzE6WkmqLo/видео.htmlsi=ewjmTY3dtV6aXJV7
I love this channel so much. You have a wealth of practical knowledge that is above and beyond home-steading theory.
You guys are doing a great job! Im like you I want everything done before winter really sets in . I do have onions and garlic that are in some if my raised beds for the winter, and I have my mainstay herbs that always grow. I have some new elderberry trees that are planted and I have to watch that deer dont get them. But im like you both I want to rest in the winter because spring and harvest time are real busy and no rest time. I put straw also over all my raised beds, but I didn't cover my strawberries, I guess I will now a bit like you! Good luck and congrats on the new baby!!! So sweet!❤
Love it!
Small potatoes are perfect for a microwave without peeling. 9 minutes for 2 servings.
Just add butter or olive oil and salt. Or add some cheese, if the cows are free-range, cruelty free, and do not get killed for meat.
I love your channel. I am on second freshening with my cow and have followed your checklist and beginner cow video (as a new cow owner). It has been so helpful. Thank you!
Good to hear! Blessings.
♥♥♥oh guys, I'm very happy with you that Maddy gave birth to a healthy calf. Congratulations, my prayers are with you that everything stays well. It's a pleasure to be able to experience this with you. I am always endlessly grateful that I found your channel. Thank you for sharing your experiences and allowing us so close to your privacy. Kind regards from snowy Munich.
Thank you! We're glad you can be a part of it too. You'll be seeing more of the calf soon! 😊
For cutting down aparagus, there is thing called a mulching blade that goes on the string trimmer. its about 20 euros and does that job in minutes. It mulches pretty much everything including branches up to 3 cm.
So cool! Congrats!
I love lmnt, I work in Texas heat with road construction and this literally stopped my leg cramps at night and I felt so much better. Thanks for vid guys
That's great! It's good stuff.
Congrats on your new baby! Calves are sooo precious! Well all babies are!😊
Thanks for sharing, we arenin Texas and while we don't have anywhere near the temps y'all get, prepping foe the next season is paramount!
I just had to redo the roof on our chicken coop, as we had a tree go through part if it. We do get horrid winds here...
Blessings ❤
Congrats on the new addition. A dairy cow is still on my want list. Love learning all I can while I wait. You guys are amazing!!
That's wonderful news, congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 cheers Maddy on your baby calf. You know your farm and your own processes. It works for you, ❤.Well done young not just farmers. Huuro! Champ 🏆 Michelle... Brrrrr stay warm and enjoy your weekend.❤❤❤
Yes! Thank you!
I really like the feeder you made out of the tote! Good job! It takes a bit, but I cut my asparagus with clippers in the spring as we don't have the bug pressure. Good video.
Congratulations! Boy or girl? So exciting for all of you. You guys work hard…hopefully you can catch up on some rest next. Can’t wait for your next post! Stay warm! 🤗
Girl 😊
I ordered my LMNT - LMNT Recharge Variety Pack - can't wait to try it. It didn't include any free gift with your link but I'm still excited to try it.
Great! That's strange.. I'm sure if you reached out to them they'd send the sample pack.
Would highly suggest a hay ring or bale feeder they help alot and it keeps the cattle from wasting so much from stepping on it or laying in it
Love the channel! Awesome to see some winter tips for homesteading! It’s wild how even the most simple tips really help!
Glad you enjoy it!
Just discovered your channel🤗 Love it👍 You are so amazing 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome! Welcome here!
went to the store today and literally put back the Liquid IV I was going to purchase... I just ordered some LMNT and can't wait to try it 😁
Awesome! It’s good stuff 😊
Hey guys! Congrats on the calf! We are about 70 miles north of you and our cow had her first calf Nov 25th. So I am thinking yours wasn't too far behind mine. Also, I had a friend run that same 5k!
That's great! Congrats!
Hi Codi, wow, congratulations on your new little calf. Glad that Maddie had it on her own without complications. Looking forward to the next video to learn about the new calf. Hope one day soon you can get a pickup to haul straw as cleaning out the van bed of all that loose straw must be a pain in the neck. Your days are so full with chores and activity so hopefully you sleep well each night.
Yes, we were super happy for that.. We were only gone for a couple hours, and she took care of it all herself 😊 And yes, cleanin that hay and straw out is a pain! 😂
What part of your homestead do you both enjoy? I only hear about all the things you both don’t like doing! Do you enjoy any of it other than eating organically? 😢
Haha, definitely not trying to give off the vibe that we don't enjoy it. We actually enjoy most things about it! We try to help people as much as possible with our videos, so that often means we need to talk about the hard things or things we're struggling with. We'll definitely have to start pointing out things more often that we enjoy! 😊
Michelle, I would be interested in hearing what curriculum (if any) you choose to use for your homeschooling?
She uses Masterbooks and really likes it!
What a good surprise! Wishing you all the best.
Loved this video. The new arrival was the icing on the cake...
Time to share another idea. Invest a little in the right tools and a job becomes e-z. Neither a chainsaw or a hedger would satisfy me to cut down that asparagus, what I would use is a pruning blade (amazon sells them) on a reciprocating saw (sawZall). If you ever try it you will know why I suggested it and why I refuse to work jobs that don't let me implement new ideas.
What I do with asparagus overgrowth (and dead overgrowth and chop & drop in general) is use the weed whacker to cut it off close to the soil while standing upright. Heh. Then I drag my little chipper/shredder (cheap, low capacity but good enough for that kinda stuff) over and turn it all into fine, ruffled-up chips. (I'm a big fan of boy toys :) Then I simply spread is as mulch usually. Or you can rake it up and dump it on the compost pile for a quick compost turnaround. (fast & FUN!) My $.o2. :) I love yous guyses and yur videos!!!
Any tips for those who have a small amount of land (1 acre)? We have not done much but build our garden beds, and started the chicken coop build.
That's a good start! Homesteading is all about learning to work with what you have. You can do a LOT on one acre! Rabbits are worth looking into for another source of meat on a small homestead, as are quail. Good luck!
@@morethanfarmers thanks!
as a more bang for your buck try to get a 3/4 ton truck like a 2500 chevy or dodge, or an f250, a half ton can do a lot but sometimes they just arent as capable for certain jobs like hauling hay. dont get a diesel gas is fine, but just the extra payload capabillity is a game changer for hauling grain or materials
This takes money, but ECHO string trimmers take attachments. One of which is a brushcutter. Worth your while...ie: asparagus prob
Як я вас люблю дивитися ви молодці у вас так гарно
I mow my asparagus. It chops up well. I may add a bit of straw so the groud is not bare.
I love LMNT! I have heard friends say that they have the chocolate as hot chocolate. I haven't tried it myself. I just used your link for order since I start back to the gym tomorrow!
Sweet! I don't do the chocolate salt straight up, but I do mix it in with hot chocolate.
i love yalls channel so much! i have just fallen in love with the homesteading life and is exactly what i want to do, im taking baby steps now, but i discovered your channel 2 days ago and have almost watched every video you have🤣🤣 i am learning so much!
That's great! 😊 That's the way to do it.. just one step at a time. Good luck!
I am in NE Ohio and the best thing I did for my asparagus patch was burn it in the spring, I had been cutting it down and letting it stay as a mulch but the bugs got worse each year. So last season I burned all the dead fonds that had been cut down, it also cleared out all the weeds for the summer (bonus) and really cut down on the bugs, I hand picked what was left and saw less and less each day. I have left it standing and am waiting for either late winter or early spring and will burn it without cutting it down, should be a sight! Congratulations on your new addition, very exciting.
🎉 Yeay for a successful calf birth 👏🏼
Awe love your little calf. Congratulations! We had a girl mini-Jersey calf and we thought it was a boy for a month because of the umbilical cord LOL. We saw her pee out back and scratched our heads. I had to call the cattle farmer down the road to ask. We are so green at this.
😂 We all gotta start somewhere!
New to you RUclips channel. I have been watching for hours n have learned so much. I have enjoyed each video n I love that you all are real in what you do. I'm a new gardner in new zone 9a, but still claim 8b. I grew a few veggies n sweet potatoes for thefirst time. Grew many flowers, but want to do more veggies next year. Keep up the good work. Getting ready to retire I want to plant to have for myself n to give to others with groceries so high.
Do you have a channel when to plant?
Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos! Good luck with the next season 😊 We don't have any videos specifically about when to plant.
Good day! 🎉 love your channel. We are zone 5 and we cut back our asparagus every year, just like you do, and we've never had an issue with our asparagus returning. ❤
I'm in Ohio too...and yes it did get cold. Little warmer this weekend.
🎉🐮Congrats on the New Baby😄👑GOD Bless this Farm Family❤🙏Protect them in JESUS👑name🙏
We've burned asparagus in the late winter. It works well. This year, we took a weed wacker to the patch (3'x60') and are spreading compost and several inches of shredded leaves on top. We shred the tops and use as a mulch elsewhere. We live in zone 4 and have never had a problem with die back from -25F winters. Can't wait to watch the adventures of the new calf. 🙂
NICE SURPRISE!!!
Wonderful video! Busy time. Congratulations on the beautiful calf, look forward to the next video!
I'd be using a brushcutter, not a chainsaw, for the asparagus. A brushcutter's metal blade fitting will slice through those stems in a blink, and you operate it standing up, which is better for your back. Also, when you're talking about a circular saw mounted on the end of a stick, having the other end of that stick strapped to your chest is actually a pretty safe place to be. Using a chainsaw at an awkward angle is not safe at all!
Thanks for the tip!
I’m so happy Maddie’s about to have her calf
Yay for a Saturday video!!🤣🙌🏻
When i saw her udder in your last video i said, "you do *not* have 2 weeks before she freshens" 😅 yay!
My understanding was that if potatoes sprout you just put up with it because breaking off sprouts lets bacteria in? So i try to prevent sprouting but if it happens i just roll with it and break them off as i use the potatoes.
😊 Haven't heard that before.. Pickin sprouts is somethin we've been doin for years, along with Michelle's mom, and others we know in the Mennonite community. Seems to be fine 🤷♂️
@morethanfarmers good to know, maybe I will try it when mine start sprouting and see how they do vs. The ones that I leave on! Interesting info, thank you!
Only 14k suscribers shy to 100k... Congratulations, you are just awesome guys... I would love to visit you all the way from Kenya😂
Thanks! 😃
Glad your cow will get a 'square' meal.
Haha right 😉
Nice informative video which is awesome. Good job staying onto of your chores to get ready for Winter. I like the way that you are vigilant in the details of taking care of your animals.
Just found your channel and am watching all the things...esp. the milk cow info since our heifer we've raised since a bottle calf is finally old enough to breed. Thanks for all the great content!
What is the fencing you are using for the chickens? The one you are pulling up and moving.
It is an electric netting. I got mine from Kencove.
Congratulations!!! How exciting, a new baby.
Nice
Congratulations!
I really enjoy watching your channel. I also enjoy watching the occasional cooking episodes. ❤
Great job you guys! Happy birthday little calf! She/he is so cute! Blessings!
Congrats on the calf!
Hey Tom, thanks!

Great video. Congrats on the calf! 🐄
You got a lot done!!! Awe, the cafe is cute!!!! 😊
Enjoyed this very much❤❤❤🙏
Best of luck with the new calf!
Good morning from Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦
Hello from Cambodia ❤
I have your calf list and Praise Yah, I didn't need it. I was ready though! Dynamint is awesome! I also bought the mastitis cards you referred us to. Thank you!! Many blessings to you and your family!
1,000 mg of sodium?? Whoa. My boyfriend is super active and pretty fit but has stage 1 hypertension and I’ve had to start cooking low sodium meals. His daily limit is 1,500 mg of sodium. And he averages 20,000 steps/day. That’s so much sodium.
It is! There are varying views on it.
Enjoyed the video
We have a weed eater with a metal or steel blade that we use for asparagus in fall. Maybe it will help for you 🤷🏻♀️ As always love the videos! Thanks for sharing!!
