so exiting that you chose this as a topic! i went to school next to Schloss nymphenburg where the gallery of beauty is, and our art teacher always let us draw these ladies in a modern style and told us about their individual stories. The most famous one was Helene Sedlmair, as she was the only one not being from a noble family & Lola Montez, who made everyone believe she was spanish and was quite scandelous. greetings & love from Munich x
As a child I lived near Munich and we went to the Nymphenburg Castle gardens a lot to have a walk there. However, I never was inside the castle and unfortunately never saw the gallery of beauties myself. Munich is definitely worth a visit (not neccessarily because of the "OKtoberfest" - far too crowded for my taste) - so many great art museums and galleries and beautiful churches and castles to be seen there! I believe it is one of the best cities to go and see in Germany.
The video was wonderfully informative and esthetic- as usual! But I really wanted to thank you for making me discover those portraits. Had virtually never heard of them, and I think you've just made me find a new obsession. So thanks!
I love this so much! Would you ever consider doing Beauty Beacons of music? Like, trying to recreate some looks of musicians/singers throughout history and all sorts of genres? I'd love that :D
No matter what era you do, the makeup and hair always looks so nice on you! I feel like you would be a beauty in any era! And I love the 19th century hair styles 😁 I wish we still wore our hair so elaborately
Wow, you managed to achieve a 1830s hairstyle that is both accurate and pretty to look at- which to me is rare. Those styles were seldom flattering on anyone, but I kind of wat to wear this now! Great job!
Dear Lucy, I totally love Beauty Beacons and I think I love you , but don't get afraid, I mean like I admire you. You are one of my favorites RUclipsrs. Please, I hope you can see someday this message. Greets from Mexico!!
I live in Munich, pretty close to Schloss Nymphenburg (Nymphenburg Castle), where the "Schönheitengalerie" is. I visited it last summer. Have you ever been there, Loepsie?
I hope you will soon! And may I suggest something for your Beauty Beacons series: Could you do a Downton Abbey inspired style? Since it is one of my favourite TV shows I would love that! And I think it was because of D.A. that I searched for historical hairstyles ... and found your channel! And I am really glad that I found it! :)
This is a wonderful look. I had never heard of this and you have introduced me to something new. Love the look btw. My historical requests are the usual: Elizabeth 1 (1570's portraits), Bianca Capello, Veronica Franco. Fictional: Ophelia, the Faerie Queen (perhaps good for Halloween)
i really love this series may i suggest donna summer, bettie paige, brooke shields, brittany murphy, catherine denevue, courtney love or any of the ronettes ? those are a lot but i'd like to see at least one of these looks
Hello from Croatia! I really love your videos, you are really doing awesome hairstyles! it would be interesting to see how would you do hairstyles from series Magnificent century(Hurrem) and Kosem sultan:) I really love your channel!
You teach me things about my homecountry even I as a german did not know ^^ I really enjoyed watching and I love this hairstyles from the 18th century. I Was wondering if you Could try Princess Diana next?
i love your videos so much! 💕 i will definitely use it one these days (i love to wear costumes) anyway, i just wanted to send you my love, a girl from the end of the world -Chile- is watching your videos 🙆
Very cool idea! And a great authentic look. You're right about the makeup. In the early 19th century women did indeed wear makeup, but it was meant to be very natural as opposed to the obvious over the top makeup of the 18th century. A light flush of rouge on the cheeks was not considered at all improper. It wasn't until the latter half of the 19th century that there was a total disdain for makeup in general (Victorian era morals) but even then most women still tried to stain their lips and cheeks very lightly.
I love your work!! Do you study history? Im about to go to cambridge to study history but the history of domestic life and fashion are my favourite areas and your videos are so informative, well researched and fun!
Hi Lucy, just wanted to give a suggestion for your next giveaways, should you hold any. Instead of leaving it completely up to chance, why don't you turn them into a contest and select the winners yourself? The reason I say this is because I entered the Jord watches giveaway, and all I was required to do was follow them on instagram, which made me feel like I didn't even have a chance to prove how much i wanted to win! It would have felt nicer if it was competition of some sort with you as the final judge!
Women and girls have always had a driving instinct to enhance their features to attract men and also to make themselves look more beautiful in general. Back then, Women wore makeup discretely as it was socially unacceptable to be obviously painted, as opposed to today, the painted face is a corporate industry with commercial and ad images everywhere. Corporations rule our society today and dictate what is socially acceptable in the “developed” world. Since the beginning of time, women used whatever was available to enhance themselves. To name a few homemade makeup examples, they are numerous but here are a few examples: Flour for face powder. White Candle wax dripped on teeth to hide the decay on front teeth. Wax layers on face to smooth the appearance of acne scars and pores (southern belles of the US) Fireplace ash, shaved silk and velvet, and dirt, for eye enhancement. Berry and vegetables (beets) for cheek rouge and lip color. Thousands more. Women are creative. Makeup is as old as time.
Your historical hair tutorials are amazing. I particularly love the 18th and 19th century tutorials.
