I just want to let you know that I work with a group of at risk youth (Covenant House, NJ) and during sessions, many of our young ladies express having trouble understanding, styling and loving their natural hair and you along with a few other tubers have inspired our girls and I would like to personally say thank you, for 1) representing beauty in its highest form; 2) taking the time to demonstrate and execute the process effectively; and 3) presenting in such a confident and positive manner. You give them a new way of viewing themselves. :)
+Dr. Tina McNeal-Price Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad that I am able to inspire these young ladies and boost their self confidence, especially through this medium. I'm actually honored... you never know who you can help or touch with the simplest of things. You made my day. Thank you! :)
Beautiful it says a lot when spending that much time in your own hair. The results look great. My hair is short too. I've got to try this. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful! Hair, makeup.....the makeup just enhances your beauty. This video gives us sistas with TWA 4C hair a beautiful option for both younger and older women. I'm 60 years young and I'm always on you tube to keep up with latest hair trends......always have and always will. So, I applaud my young sistas who are using this outlet to enlighten the masses and showcase just how talented, versatile and beautiful the black women is. Black Girls & Women Rock!!!!!👏🏾💋👏🏾💋
Beautiful hair, beautiful you and good job, the best way to show the best of our natural hair. I live in the Czech Republic and the fact that we have almost no African hair saloon, I decided to keep my natural hair and that has been the best decision I have made so far. I am loving it and I feel so great to explore different styles and feel pure African compare to wearing of weave and wigs. Great job I think its about time for each and everyone of us to embrace what we have, be proud of us and be the best at it.
Hi I love your natural curls,I just let my perm go at the beginning of the summer I had perm my hair many years .I am 54 and feel the need to go back natural I did where my hair TWA style many years now seeing gorgeous lady like yourself and other we still look good with out putting a perm in are hair .So thank you for sharing .God bless
Thank you!!!! I did the BIG CHOP on August 5th and now it is October 27th and your video has shown me how to get the look that I want.Growing up I never wanted an "afro." With today's natural styles, the curliness and waviness of the styles appeal to me. In the last 24 hours, the words finger curls and shingling have come alive in my vocabulary!!! I want my hair to look great at each length and experience of this journey. Not to be overlooked, your make-up ROCKS!!!!!
Wow. I have to give this a try. Sounds like something that would work for my short 4c hair. I'm not thrilled with how long it will take, but I do like that it can last a while. Thank you for this tutorial.
yay!! Finally found a style i can use with my twa.....been doing twist outs but HATE twisting tiny strands so this should be faster for me....thank u for the tutorial.much love
Babaaaay! A single tear ran down my face when I watched this video. Oh my gosh this and you are gorgeous. We were taught for so long that our hair was UGLAYy but yassss. We see the light now... Keep up the good work. I can try this on my mom. #MASTERPEICE
Absolutely beautiful!! You have saved me from stressing out over not knowing what to do with my short natural 4C hair.. Thank you very much for sharing this video..
Yes .. that is beautiful!! I am sooo sad because I have really kinky hair and over time I have really butchered my hair trying to cut out and relax the tangles! Getting weaves .. natural look but added hair! I was not aware of all of these WONDERFUL natural styles that I'm seeing now! I have really RUINED my hair trying to manage it in it's natural state ... This is really beautiful. Thanks for sharing
can you do a earth tones make up video where it looks as if you have on any make up or lipstick. I love all your videos. Before watching I would cover my hair cause I thought it was too short to work with. You have given me a new identity of how I look at my short hair. Thanks so much for the healing help sista.
I love this style so much and regularly watch this video. Hands down this is my favourite twa tutorial on RUclips. I had been using the same Eco Styler gel you use for this style but found that it starts to flake after about 3 days so end up washing twice a week. I have now started to style my hair using Nyxon gel (I’ve not heard anyone recommend it, but it gave a super glossy finish and great hold when I used it on my previously relaxed hair, so I thought I’d give it a try again). I am a week in and would normally wash and redo my hair, but the Nyxon get has kept the style with just spraying with water and lifting with a pick when flat. Thank you for uploading this video. Still loving it years later.
I can say not that I can manage my 4c, hair. I for so long just was frustrated with my hair. Lots of breakage all the time. I am a breast cancer patient and now I can use this style to keep it short and BEAUTIFUL. Thank you SISTA!!
This is one of the best methods I've seen performed on short natural hair. I cringed when I saw how tedious it was, but the results were fabulous. Think I'll get a friend to do it for me, LOL..., but I'm finally inspired by a YT natural hair video. Thank you!!!!
You are so welcome. I wish I had someone to do mine as it is quite the workout lol. But I’ve perfected the method now and can do it in half the time! ❤️
I dont even know why I watch videos like this knowing damn well I have no patience whatsoever to do this style. But girl u look good, come and do my hair too please lol
I have the same texture hair, but my hair is less dense, love the fullness of your hair, looks great on full head of hair, I used to do it all the time when I was in newly natural. Btw you are gorgeous, great vid💞
+nicole cannon Thank you so much. I feel like I have way too much hair. I love the fullness when it's short, but when it starts to get long it's a bit much lol
This is a process you do while watching netflix. Lol i have 4c hair as well and maannn it is a pain trying to style it. Just the same ole fro :( Ima try this tonight .hopefully I'll finish
Yoooo! I not seen a tutorial on this style before and it it gorgeous! It looks amazing on you and I am definitely going to try it. Thanks is so much Sis, for those of us with natural-natural hair, great styles that allow us to keep our natural look and self maintenance is key. Blessings.
This is awesome! Much respect to you sis for your patience with the little hairs. I definitely did not have that patience when I was sporting my TWA. That style is da bomb!

BLACK QUEENS LIKE WHOA.. MAMI IS ON POINT.. LOOKING BEAUTIFUL
Thank you for this video. this is gorgeous. My 11 year old daughter just big chopped and has a TWA so this will be a perfect style for her. I will try it out on her tonight. :) you are beautiful
Hey Glammzmore, don't 2get take down these videos! I just chopped off 18 inch locs, still have some damaged/ split ends as the crown of my hair is funny texture. The length and weight of the locs had that oday of my hair pretty thin. Nevertheless my hair is short/ tapered and the sponge doesn't always work for the different textured hair. THIS method and ur wash and go with a rat tail comb method are the truth and answer to my current situation. Ur gorgeous and inspiring. Keep coming with the short hair don't care videos!!!!! Happy New Year!!!!!🎊🎊🎊🎉🎊
My goodness! Beautiful!! I will definitely try this method but I'm going to have to find a way to camoflage my edges because they are thin. Thank you!! Beautiful style!!
Thank you so much. I’d suggest slightly gelling down the edges to cover thin spots. Not create baby hairs, just gel down to make it look polished and in place. That’s what I do for my temple areas as they are really thin (hereditary)❤️
You are gorgeous, poised and your instructions are great. You sound like a native New Yorker! Beautiful and this process works for me as well. Lasted two weeks. Sleep under silk bonnet. Thanks lovely!
I Love this style, I Love how you explain each step and your make is Perfection.. I understand it is time consuming but you make it look so Beautiful. I love your videos they are very informative and detailed. I just did the Big Chop for the 2nd time and went a loft shorter than before and I was looking for nice styles that would last so I do not have to play with my hair every morning. Thanks So Much.
Very pretty! Also, love the orange lipstick on you! Especially with those earrings and cheek color. Really well put together package all around. Weeeeerk girl! 👏🙌💋💁💣
You look amazing!!! I absolutely love this tutorial. I'm trying to let my grow and at this current time it's a little longer than yours...I'm going to practice this style anyway. Who knows I might cut it off again because I prefer short hair. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hi Erica! Thanks for this video. First of all, I just have to say that you are so beautiful! And I love the way you talk. You are too cute! I just read your article about texture shaming. The commenter that said that you have no natural curl must be blind! Blind and/or stupid. As for shaming, it is something we all experience to one extent or another. It doesn't matter if we're Type 4 or have loose curl or are mixed or are dark-skinned. I would say that most of us, if not all of us, have experience texture shaming to some degree. Just yesterday, a Mexican woman, with another Mexican woman sitting there, ran her fingers through her straight, thin, shoulder-length, greasy looking hair and, laughing at me, she said Can you do this? And then she asked me What does your hair look like in the morning? Do you wake up with it all in a big ball? The whole time she's saying these things they are both just cracking up. This, after just having told me how beautiful I am. Wow. Women are just nasty with one another and so catty, insecure, and jealous. What do you think her motives were? What do you think she was looking for? I asked her. I said why are you asking me these questions? That's calmed her down a little bit, slowed her roll. I think she realized that she was being unkind and making herself look small in front of me. Then I said to her, that's not the way to touch my hair. This is the way to touch my hair, and I began to stroke my beautiful curls from the ends, not the root. Her mouth fell open, but she couldn't say a word. That shut her up. Men, in general, cannot seem to get over their obsession with long, or silky, or straight hair, no matter what condition it's in. It is an irrational obsession,... rooted in a history of brainwashing media propaganda. Stay beautiful, stay strong, and keep spreading a positive message.
Thank you so much and thanks for commenting. Sorry you experienced that. Like you said, women can be mean and catty. And yes, women of all races. I’m so over it!
Beautiful I love it I'min transitioning mode and my sides and back are close cut like tapered and my crown is long so I'm hopingthis shingling method will work on my back and sides keep up the great work you look amazing
+Marion Hairston Thank you. It will work. When my sides are freshly cut I use the shingling method in combination with other styles like Finger Coils and Perm Rod sets.
I love watching your videos! I did the big chop in October and my hair is growing out wonderfully. Your videos helped me get through it. How do you make it last for two weeks??? I haven't had such luck.
Try apple cider vinegar. Rinse it out well. Follow up with a creamy detangler and/or conditioner designed to lay your the hair follicles down. Add a moisturizer. Over time, you'll see your hair soften, curl pattern define. Same results as this amazing tutorial. Much less time.
My curl pattern is defined on its own, but my coils will never clump like this on its own without products and manual definition. That’s the nature of 4c hair. And I use Apple cider vinegar regularly.
This video is so helpful!!! I just wanted to let you know your top three product links in your video description aren't working. From the leave in up. The eco gel and Jamaican castor oil links work.
Hi Erica, My name is Nekia. You will probably do not remember me, but we went to HS together (CB High School in Brooklyn...). Your picture came up at a blog site I often visit, Madamenoire, and when I saw your face, I thought, wow, she looks like Erica. I was surprised I remembered your name...lol. So I could not help and google your blog name and saw it was you. Congrats on your successful blogging. You look gorgeous. Keep doing your thing...

Cute hairstyle and your makeup is FLAWLESS! !
+Nicole Ross Thank you! :)

Hi Erica! Thanks for this video. First of all, I just have to say that you are so beautiful! And I love the way you talk. You are too cute! I just read your article about texture shaming. Awesome! This is my hair texture and I can't wait to try. Thanks for sharing!

I just tried this, it was very easy, and I LOVE IT....thanks
+Tracey Allen You're welcome!
I love watching your videos! I did the big chop in October and my hair is growing out wonderfully. Your videos helped me get through it. How do you make it last for two weeks??? I haven't had such luck.
Thats what I call black beauty in its natural form. Thanks
Omg this is exactly what i wanted (ToT) i have problems defining my TWA, some parts curl and others are just frizzy, thanks a lot
Priscila Rosario You're welcome!
I love it! You look so beautiful! I have watched a few of your videos and I am sold, you gained a new subbie!
I wondered what shingling was and how to get that look love it sis thank u
You have much more patience than me. I it my hair short so I didn’t have to style it. It looks nice though and you are a beautiful woman.
Beautiful. Your hair and make up is giving me 80s Grace Jones vibes. Love this style, but I don’t have the patience to see it through.
You make me want to big chop again for the summer coming. Beautiful style!
This looks like quite a bit of work, but we'll worth it, seeing the end result. Thanks for giving me and my twa hope. Great video...👍!
This video is so helpful!!! I just wanted to let you know your top three product links in your video description aren't working. From the leave in up. The eco gel and Jamaican castor oil links work.
you make it look so easy...I love it and you do look fabulous!!!
Chali Kasonde Thank you :)
Beautiful definitely doing this on my hair!!
Hi Erica,
My name is Nekia.
