Oh boy oh boy here we go.....51 feet Im thinking.
Broadcast Baby TV! Congrats on the baby, and congrats on the start of a new project!
Congratulations on the little one! They are a blessing!
Congratulations Ryan on the birth of your first child. I had my first 23 months ago and my life will never be the same... but in a very good way of course! Looking forward to seeing how the build progresses.
NICE!
This will be great!
Welcome back! I am looking forward to this build series! What happened to your other trailer?
Thanks! The other trailer is still working. We're taking on three Friday night football markets simultaneously which is why I need to build a 3rd unit 😅
@@BroadcastBuddyTV That is a good problem to have. :) Also, congratulations on the new baby.
Can't wait to see this one Ryan!!
Woohoo!
all that is great but lets be honest.... where do you get all the money to build all these caravans? we also do a lot of livestreams, also with interesting charges but there is not enough money to make a living AND build just one of these cruical things.... any advice?
Get bigger clients. There's so much money out there right now. My company does lots of work for ESPN in Kansas as well as some other clients, we do some high school football for a local cable company, and have other college clients as well. We went from using a laptop and two cameras about 7-8 years ago, to today we have two fully spec'd ESPN capable trucks and we are looking at building a third in the next year. We used to be doing 30-40 "streams" a year. Now we are doing 250+ "broadcasts" a year. There's a major difference between a "livestream" or "feed" and a "broadcast. Get acquainted with the clients that want "broadcasts" and you'll have to start turning down work there's so much of it.
It's a great question and the answer really could be a video of its own 😅
To Zach's point - bigger clients do pay more - but in our case we do A LOT of high school sports (which don't always pay that great per game/ but because of the quantity we do we can sustain it.) But to put it into perspective - when I build our first unit, Hermes in 2016, I built it budget HD. I cut a lot of corners and wheeled and decaled to get it running. At that point, we didn't even have an intention of doing sports. It didn't even have replay! Hermes was a "build it an they will come" mentality... and when they didn't come as quickly as expected, I build the outboard trailer which had replay and two more channels of CG to try to start doing some sports. Over the years I've since been able to upgrade parts of it to make better.
From there, the other two units became a "cart before the horse" mentality... but the horse was at least was in our sites. What I mean by that is we had the work offered to us if we could provide the production solutions. We have a very aggressive business partner that has been expanding his territory for high school games and uses us for those productions. This year, he picked up yet another market that airs games on Friday... which is why this unit is being built... because the other two units are already booked for two other Friday night markets, lol.
The second unit, Icarus, was built for another client's gigs (the flypack), but the trailer that surrounds it was build because we were offered that Friday market a couple of years ago. So, all-in-all, this year we will be doing 40 high school football games (four markets) between the three units. Which next year we're looking at picking up 5th market that would air on Saturday.
So, the short answer is that there is a large amount of risk vs reward. There are some other internal factors of course, but that's a big part of it. Keep the hustle going and like Zach said - see who's out there that might be looking for something bigger! 🙂
If you want some more general info on my progression, I made a video called "Who Is Broadcast Buddy" where I touch on some of the timeline of the business as well.
Also to follow up with that, that another reason why I want to make this one able to grow into - so that we can chase some of the bigger clients like ESPN.
@@BroadcastBuddyTV what are the requirements for an ESPN ready trailer?
Hi! It generally varies from production to production on the finer details, but there are some bare minimum requirements for many of them, such as having at least 8 cameras and 2 replay positions.
