As a fellow collector who follows the market, I’m afraid I have to disagree. There are a few reasons for my position. 1. There is much further to fall. There are millions of watches on the market fighting for your dollars and attention. Anything that you spend money on will be measured in value. Watches are not measuring up to their prices yet. 2. the watch market is really dealers selling and trading with each other, thus increasing perceived value and asking prices. The dealer/speculator market has shrunken and now they are relying on a long-time abused consumer market to prop them up. 3. new releases are not significantly different from old inventory. The lack of forward design has made the pool murky, so why buy a new speedy old one that is the same, royal oaks are indistinguishable from each other, etc. 4. Investment. HOLD UP!!!!!! So PP was running ads about its transferable value, and Rolex dealers “You will never lose money on a Rolex.” The market has been promoting value and investment, and now you’re telling people only buy for LOVE????? Dishonesty and greed has ruined watches

That’s absolutely fair.. I’ve always been telling folks on this channel that the investment component is nowhere near the most important thing when it comes to watches. In my earlier video/podcast, my point was to always have the mindset to assume that your watches automatically lose half its value immediately. And always to buy within your means on the watches you like. That I’ve stayed fairly consistent.
Reiterating the same point… whether prices have stabilised or will dip another notch lower, the stance is the same

@@watchjelly Sorry for my assertion. I should have said “they” not “you” when referring to the misguidance in the watch market. I agree with ur metrics, 50% drop on used sounds good.

Based on 20 + years into watch collection, this is not the first time we are seeing this phase. This is not the worst stage, many watch prices will come down in time to come . The best sign is when u see some of the dealers starting to fold. In AD context, they are struggling to sell their watches outside rolex and some of the half and full gold are readily available but they will still ask you to buy sth if you dun have an account.
Lastly , I agree that one should buy unique pieces , especially if they are not readily available . Similiar to landed in some areas of Singapore, it’s not about when is a good price but whether there are sellers. But the stainless steel models of rolex do not fall under this category since they are readily available with the right price. Trust me , 1 year from now when some dealers fold, u get better price . By then, you may not even wanna buy .

I was in far east plaza today looking for a pepsi on jubilee. The prices have gone down a lot but it's not applicable to all. The new bruce wayne on oyster was available and cheaper than the pepsi which seems to hold value no matter what. It's still a dream to see watches like pepsi anywhere near retail.

The Pepsi stayed high the past 12 months because there were rumours of its discontinuation in March! With it stilll staying on the catalogue should help some…. But that said, it’s the most eye catching GMT and the original GMT bezel colour.. and so it makes sense that it’s one of the most desirable ones!

I think prices for entry level Rolexes will continue to fall. Personally I’m more of a Daytona and GMT type of person. If someone plan to purchase a stainless steel Daytona at retail, best luck to them. I also think that now it’s a good time to buy PM Daytona. Rolex will continue to raise prices for their gold watches.

Excellent observation. Certain good daytonas & GMTs are priced extremely well

Rumour has it that Rolex will do a further price increase in the UK on the 1st of June. A second increase in a year to keep up with the increase in the price of gold.

Prices will continue to fall. If anyone follows the US market where many of the dealers here buys stock from, the prices are at least 15 to 20% lower for most models, and still dropping. 2022s Pepsi on jubilee is around SGD $26k and 2023 116508 Paul Newman sold for SGD $54k. Local dealers will no longer be able to export these watches for a better price. Have been tracking the US market for 3 years and SG price movement generally follow with some time lag. Wait out for better prices 😊

Any intel on whether Rolexes are more available these days from the ADs? 🙃 also any thoughts on the bluesy and it’s long term value?

Not smuch in places like SG. But if you go to cities with a little less disposable income, that might be possible… bluesy subs… seems to me they’ve not been doing too well. They fall outside the Daytona & GMT in terms of popularity. Gold/half gold subs haven’t done that well typically
