Its important to recognize the difference between real high fashion models and IG models. I've noticed that actual professional models are a lot more laid back and humble and even silly. IG models take themselves super seriously and edit their photos. high fashion models want the approval of fashion houses and brands, not random strangers on the internet. But for IG models, all they have are followers. I've seen gorgeous high fashion models with only 2k followers and very basic overly edited models with 50k followers.

That is so true I am friends with a successful male model and he barely has 1k followers but he was signed and got an apartment in NY off of modeling.
i get this but many ig influencers are making money off ig. you don't need to be a high fashion model to score gigs with brands. if anything, this is a wonderful thing. it's cutting into a very strict industry. it gives a platform for independent creatives to flourish without the need of a big agency behind them.
it's similar to what's been done here on youtube. independent creators are allowed freedom of expression without the need of big agencies. same with tiktok blowing up independent creator's music. it's a beautiful thing to see, especially seeing how exploitative these major industries are. no reason to be talk down on folks just getting a piece of the pie.
and there are plenty of high fashion models who are horrible individuals. we don't know them personally to judge. high fashion models have professionally grade air brushing all done in-house, so the picture that you see has already gone through the rounds. smaller creatives have to go about doing it themselves, hence the botched jobs here.

It's very rare I see an independent male photographer photograph himself in THAT high of quality. His editing and color grading is insane and dramatic. Even if you discount his looks, his style in dress and talent in photography & art isn't something to brush off. He's an artistic person and it seems he wants to be art too.
As an artist myself that is interested in fashion, he surely is someone I can learn from even if I am a woman.

I was in school with Jan, Tonis brother. Jan is the much more beautiful person I have to say. Most wonderful and sweet guy. Saw Toni a few times but he looks like a regular guy and his personality wasn't really interesting to me. But his art skills are insane, he draws fantastic photo realistic portraits. No wonder his photoshop skills are awesome too!

@@OnlyViKnows that's kinda weird because to me he was just the brother of a classmate/friend and I never had any desire to get to know him more. Tbh I never think about him except when I see stuff like this video randomly. He wasn't very talkative, kinda awkward and a bit rude to some people, but never to me (don't wanna talk bad about him aah but his brother really is the much sweeter person, I could talk about him much more). I knew he could draw well and yea. That was it. I don't want to talk bad about him, it's just to me he wasn't smth special. Maybe he would have been to someone else (or I'm just too gay lol).
It's always surreal to stumble over this internet persona/famous version of him and I'm honestly happy for him and his family. Maybe lots of things have changed, all of us were much younger back then (I guess all of us went to the gym). But he already photoshoped his photos a lot and was kinda "famous". I never thought of it as bad, it's a cool skill to be able to edit your photos like that! Especially without all the apps you can use these days.
After reading some comments on this video: My advice to anyone reading this is... don't glorify people, don't obsess over them. Of course you can admire skills or gush over the looks of someone. And he really is awesome at what he does! He is rightfully famous for that. Just be a fan of what you really see, not of what you think the person also is. Just see people like him as normal people and don't compare yourself or think of yourself als lesser. We are all just regular people and some get lucky along the way. This way of thinking also makes an encounter with a "famous" person much more chill for everyone involved. And you won't get disappointed either

@@OnlyViKnows I'm sure what he shows online is part of his personality. But exactly that's what it is: just a part of his personality, not his entire being. And he knows exactly what he has to show the world to get people intrigued. I mean, everybody does it to some extend. I don't show the internet what I look like without makeup and how stubborn and annoying I can get. The internet only sees me with pretty makeup and my creative/kind side. It's easy to imagine someone as this wonderful and perfect person when you just know their online persona. And it's okay to dream about celebrities and feel comfort from thinking that such nice people exist. Just don't get too lost in it and don't compare yourself or other people around you with him. Everybody has flaws, no matter how great the good parts of their personality look like. Keep that in mind for future non-celebrity crushes as well. Always value yourself and don't think someone is better than you just because you saw a glimpse of them.
The good side of this is: you can still enjoy the persona he created while being aware that it is just a persona and that there is a real person behind it. It's not such a bad thing, as long as you are just aware of that.

Toni is actually a very talented retoucher, legend has it that Lina Tesch (his good friend) taught him a couple of tricks years ago and he just evolved from that. :)
He's also a good traditional artist and overall artistic person, so the photoshopping and art direction in his pics aren't surprising. (I'm an artist as well)

toni mahfud lived in my city(hamburg) a few years ago. many people knew him, but not for his looks. he looked completely different, like an average guy. everyone recognized he had multiple surgeries! chin, nose and even jawline changed completely! you can even see his old self in an interview(he was in tv once). and on top of that he also photoshops his pics. sorry to burst your dreams..

this is only because it was "golden hour", the sun was setting and it was their last chance of getting good lighting before got dark. it's too hot during the day to be outside and the light is too harsh for picture and at night to too dark for most cameras to get a decent picture. the fun happen when it gets dark, that's why you don't see influencers posting pics or videos at night. Coachella and Stagecoach are to two most "tame" festive in the Southern California and Vegas region.

Toni Mahfud does not have a "retoucher", he retocuhes the pictures himself, he is a photoshop specialist. He became famous BECAUSE of his surrealistic retocuches (pictures of him floating in a room for example) and also for his naturalistic paintings. Also did he study communication design, so he plays with it very often and also lets us know. He just became a model after he got so much recognition as an artist and influencer, he wasn't a model before

Actually I wouldnt say that this is a good reason to get your point across. I am an artist as well but I do not keep my palette messy. Even when I mix colors, I do in a way that doesnt seem messy. Funnily, I never do this consciously. Has been this way since I began painting. I didnt realize this until i went to college and my fellow artists began noticing.

I started adoring Toni for his art, honestly. He’s talented af. I’ve never even visited his Instagram page save for a couple pictures that popped up on Pinterest. But it is disheartening to see how hard some people try, not that it is bad, good for them, but it sets the standards so high that it harms other people’s images of themselves. All these people can afford to get surgeries and treatments to get comfortable in their own skin, but not all of us can, we have to live with the imperfections that we’ve been born with and looking at people like this makes it harder.
that doesnt make it their fault tho. celebs too have one chance at life and it is their choice how they use their money, how they wanna look. if they have the resources to want to look the way they want to, they can. us not having those same resources may be disheartening but it is no reason to hate on those with resources for using what they have.
What a wrong with having a high standard? There will always be a standard anyways and even if we all lowered it, McDonald's will be the new high standard then. That's how things are and how the world works.

I never heard of him before, but I googled him and google says his eyes are hazel. Those could look brown or greenish depending on the lightening; my dads eyes are hazel. But I feel like in the photos they’re a little too bright blue even for hazel.

Videos like this are so so important. Realizing that what I see on Instagram does accurately portray real life really opened my eyes and helped me get over my self esteem issues. It's not that I think these influencers are wrong for editing their photos. It's just important to remember to see these pics as art, not as attainable beauty standards

Toni might be wearing high end contacts, I’ve seen lenses that have a gradient and blend with your natural eye colour to look real. But it’s really interesting how you brought up those specific Northern European features that are most upheld in the modelling world. There are a lot of videos and photos of Toni out of his instagram and he is still very stunning, he just had a nose job and maybe bichectomy, but thats something a lot of common people do too. He still young, and got famous very young, the face naturally change a lot through time, specially if you start working out.
His eyes are clear, not THAT clear bu still blue, the lighting of course helps and he also edits them. I am a photographer and i do that with most of the models and even with myself, that makes the photo looks better, thats not being fake, thats how the fashion and model industry and photography works. When you make a living with that you just put the better side of you, not just random photos like common people do.
I think Toni Mahfud is still amazing. He is an artist. He can draw realistically.

Your Chanel and the subreddit r/instagramreality helped my self esteem immensely. I also started realizing that I had never seen someone in person as flawless as an Instagram model. Even real models I’ve met in person still have skin texture, still have messy hair or aren’t as tall. It’s not normal to hold people to literally impossible standards of beauty, and it’s just as unreasonable to hold yourself to those standards.

I‘ve seen Toni Mahfud in real life and he looks exactly like he does on pictures. I don‘t think that he‘s done anything cause I‘ve been following him for 8 years and know his pictures when he was 16! His face just matured, he already had these features when he was a teenager.

He is a "self made model" . He was discovered of Instagram...nit traditionally during castings or on the street by some headhunter.
Even real models aren't intimidating in person. They're human. It's the editing they do online that makes people insecure. I've met both, a genuinely beautiful model and an awkward instagram model. Neither intimidated me in person, because they had pores and bad skin, and realness to their faces/bodies. 😊

Just found this video in my rcmnds, and I'm loving this! I find it really interesting! I'm not on Insta all that much, I'm more of YT type of girl, lol, but I occasionally wander there looking for something in particular... Bc a lot of chnls I follow talk about different things going on on Instagram. I'd have never seen or even looked for any of this stuff, but now I'm def going to. Just for the "Where's Waldo" fun of it! It kind of still blows my mind that people edit themselves into unrecognizable, I mean, what do they think will happen when people see them in the flesh? And don't their friends ever call them out on this nonsense? It's a bit narcissistic I think. Do they actually get mad when people say wow, you look nothing like ur pics!? Anyway, looking forward to the previous 5 in this series.

I love these videos. I am a fairly ugly dude and always felt shit about myself, its actually a relief to realize that lots of other people feel the same.
My eyes change color depending on the lighting, camera quality, exposure, and even the weather. Overcast days my eyes will look olive green but look dark in photos, sometimes they look grey, on sunny days in natural sunlight, they will look very blue. Depending on the angle of the light and angle of the camera, my eye would just look dark in photos taken by someone else, especially if I'm outside. My true eye color is much more visible with high quality cameras in bright, natural light. I can see how those old photos of Toni could just make his eye look darker because my eyes would look like that if i were photographed in those conditions as well. I have no clue if he really photoshops his eyes, but that is my experience with having a similar eye color. It is very tricky to photograph and it looks different in different settings.

Check @ToniUpdates on Ig and look at the most recent post. The post shows Toni in his Ig story zooming into one of his eyes. You can immediately tell those are contacts from the shade of blue and you see a lot opacity of the color in his eyes to even be legit.
Thank god somebody is talking facts when i wear lenses n try n take picture they appear different color according to the lightening n shadows
your eyes probably like mine, yellow center, but you can't really see it in normal light so it just looks blue and then outside in the sun or something it will look green cuz blue and yellow combine

A few days ago I downloaded an app for make up and changed the color of my eyes to grey. Damn, it really changes how you look. No doubt people use color contact lenses. Now I feel terrible. I'm never going to do that again.
