21:30 the seriousness with which he said "the urza makes seat of the synod tap for blue, so thats nice" is absolutely hilarious to me
I also heard it and had to double take
See, if there were any other artifact lands in the cube, this would actually be a synergy!
Didn’t also say that plussing 5 mana teferi let’s him play his swords at instant speed…😂😂🤦♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
So many things wrong with that
Made me spit out my coffee. That got me so bad.
@@bumpasaurus487 well, actually, plussing big tef allowed him to untap 2 lands to keep a white open to use Sword at instant speed during opponent turn
LSV playing WURG without any fixing: "Oh hey, a bowmaster!"
Swords to Plowshares at instant speed - gamebreakingly overpowered.
Urza makes seat of the synod tap for blue!!
What a sick combo
I was like wait a min…😂🤦♂️
Works better when the opponent has a null rod.
LSV did you see that you got a shout out from Brandon Sanderson for all the cube content lately? He mentioned it as one his favorite bits of media this past year while he's been writing Stormlight 5
Wait, really? Where did he say that? That's awesome!
@@user-if7rp4ym9ySaid it on his podcast (Intentionally Blank) during their Year in Review episode, it's in like the last minute or so of the episode
@@user-if7rp4ym9y Search for "Our 2023 Year in Review - Intentionally Blank Ep. 137", it's at the very end at 32min15sec.
1:40 I think it's a bug; backup shouldn't give haste from dash because backup should only give the abilities printed below it & nothing gained from any other effects.
CR 702.165c Only abilities printed on the object with backup are granted by its backup ability. Any abilities gained by a permanent, whether due to a copy effect, an effect that grants an ability to a permanent, or an effect that creates a token with certain abilities, are not granted by a backup ability.
Yeah, that seems right. The target creature would gain (useless) dash if it was printed lower on the card, but it’s not.
Back to our regular scheduled programming.
wins the game and draws exactly every card in the deck, perfect efficiency.
1:23:28 swords on Adeline here might work out. Go to 3, get initiative back with boo, throw boo at dungeoneer. Precarious but winnable.
5c no fetchlands has me worried.
Olyphant and generous ent are close to fetch lands
He has 3 land cyclers tho? That’s more fetch than a lot of decks end up with
This is a sweet deck in your hands! It's great to get to look over your shoulder and see how you get the most out of every play.
When jbro has about as many palantir counters as cards in deck you say you could almost deck him but it'd kill you, and I just want to note in my experience this situation often won't kill you because they have scried lands to the bottom over the past many turns. It's a desperation play that works more than I would have expected. Not that I think in this game it would have been the right move just a thing that comes up sometimes.
LSV I appreciate the “I learned that dash makes it give haste” for daily viewers like me to know you’re aware you missed that in a previous video 😅
Whew! I was hoping it would tap for blue!
@85:08 possibly attacking with Boo - if JBro blocked, could use Currency Converter to draw Bowmasters - low percentage (~4%) but could ping Adaline for one, have one point go over with trample, get the initiative, then Fling Boo at a token. Would then need to draw Iconoclast in the four and hope for no additional removal. If no blocks, attack then Fling at Adaline post-combat. I might have missed something there though - wowww vintage cube is hard (!).
THE MINIATURE GIANT SPACE HAMSTER TOKEN IS JUST BOO, MINSC IS THE HANDSOME PLANESWALKER
From the title alone, this sounds fun!
You had lethal when considering flinging boo. Play the seat, Urza, and use Urza mana to play and equip Skullclamp for the last point of damage.
As always, love the content LSV! Thanks for the daily uploads!
That was certainly a deck of cards with which the game of Magic can be played...
So hypothetical rules question - at 49:00 if LSV had only 8 cards in deck, who would win after Minsc's ability resolved? Or would it be a draw? What happens when the resolution of one ability deals one player lethal damage and makes the other player deck out?
Found a reddit thread where it happened to someone on Arena and it was a draw. Apparently decking and taking lethal damage are state based actions and as such they happen simultaneously.
May i Ask as for why "White Plume Adventurer" has been removed from the cube?
Also: Have "Passageway Seer" or "Ravenloft Adventurer" ever been considered for the cube? Feels weird to have an initiative card for each color but black.
Thanks!
From the Catacombs is black
@@ivandragovic5958oh you're right ^^
To undercut the sandy dogs true power
My guess is that Dungeoneer is a little more fair.
@@dementievatzwait, white plume is too good for powered cube? How does that make any sense? I didn’t even realize white plume isn’t in the cube until now
5 color bad stuff; my specialty
@LSV Would you consider adding a card like [[Worldknit]] to the cube? Would it be too powerful?
Or is it automatically excluded, since it's not legal in Vintage?
Are conspiracies even on Magic Online?
@@seanmurphy3430 It appears they are *not* on MTGO. Well that answers that.
Do you think it would be too powerful, anyway?
@@alexanderhamilton3309 I don't think it would be too powerful in a format with Black Lotus and Time Walk. It's good, and it would definitely lead to some cool decks, but the condition for playing it isn't negligible. It's surprisingly hard to have all your picks be something you want to play in your deck, and making your deck bigger diminishes the reliability of getting your most powerful cards/combos. I think Sovereign's Realm might be getting into the territory of "too powerful".
Does anyone know what discord bot LSV uses to organize/randomize the teams? Would love to get something like this going with some friends🙏
Leaving seat of the synod in vs manglehorn and rec sage is pure lsv hubris 😂
On the very final turn, I think if you threw Boo at Adeline and drew/played Bowmasters, there was a chance.
Thanks for the content! Amazing as always
he just dies to trap from the initiative that way
Have you considered notion thief for your cube? Could be another fun draw punisher.
Great video as always! That synod/urza combo is *chef's kiss*
Lotus field over candelabra and dress down might've helped with your fixing. Plus, since you had strip mine already, you were already in the market for graveyard land recursion
There’s not a lot of reason to suspect at that point he’d *want* the Lotus Field. He had a dual and a landcycler, a fast land, and a land cycler in the only other color he was committed to. Teferi easily could have gotten out.
Has displacer kitten, passes coveted jewel 😢
Didn’t he get the kitten after he passed Coveted Jewel?
I died inside a little
@@stevenashley27no he wheeled it
Could have gotten Mishra’s Workshop to go with it. It wouldn’t have been very good, but I did feel sad when he passed it.
I hope that Mutagenic Growth gets some play. I love the zero mana play there...
LSV, do you know if MTGO ever does a pure Beta draft? Like, just the beta cards minus the ante/Chaos Orb cards?
Really don't understand why you wouldn't +1 Minsc before combat @35:00
It leaves LSV with the option to minus it after combat, so if jbro doesn't block it, M&B can kill the adventurer and stop him from taking back the initiative. Bear in mind that jbro is at 20 life while LSV is at 13. Even with M&B in play, LSV can't really afford to risk trading damage here, especially when the initiative threatens to dome him for 5. It's not a cut and dry decision (a 7 power Boo does threaten lethal next turn), but it is, i think, the less risky one.
Passing breeding pool pack 2 with two on color landscyclers and immediately saying "we need more lands" is truly peak
You mean at 10:30? That was a Simic Growth Chamber, which doesn't have the land types, so can't be got with the cyclers. Breeding pool was in pack 1.
Passing the hallowed fountain pack 1 says a lot. He tends to ignore lands until the very end and make subpar speculative picks
@@Jayp1980this comment is asanine. LSV often picks lands very highly. It depends on his deck type and he didn't plan on being 5 color till pack 3. Which leaves little room for lands.
@@chrisstanley2051 I agree with Jay here. I feel like LSV used to take lands much higher.
It's not as simple as lands or cards for LSV, he's drafting an archetype - prioritizing lands makes sense for some decks, and prioritizing spells makes sense for others. Easy in hindsight, very difficult call in real time.
Good job consistently uploading for a month!
8 months?
I think its a testament to just how skillful LSV is, that it feels like he opens alot less power than other players and yet still has an insane record of Wins to losses in these vintage cube drafts.
Wait til they find out Urza makes mox sapphire tap for blue 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
With all the landcyclers does something like Drake haven seem decent in the cube?
As much as I love Drake Haven, it seems pretty slow and mana hungry for vintage cube.
Most powerful non power card is an interesting question. I think i would pick Force of Will but if it's a card that "does something threatening". Probably Minsc and Boo yeah, or Forth Eorlingas.
Engajamento❤
asks for lands...passes all the lands...asks for lands...passes more lands...asks for lands...and around and around we go. Ends up willing to cut most of the cards he took instead of the lands. Seriously, I think lands should be taken MUCH higher in packs 1 and 2. It is VERY COMMON that a mediocre card is taken instead of a land isn't because "we aren't splashing that color" and the next pack we open or are passed a card that makes us splash that color that we passed a land on....we then hope for lands to make the splash work when there are both fewer of them available and we're already halfway through with the draft making it likely we end up with bad mana.
20:00 "for the most part didn't take spells over lands".....Jace over Overgrown Tomb, Spellbomb over Hallowed Fountain, Swords over Spara's Headquarters, Expressive Iteration over Ziator's Proving Grounds, Teferi Time Raveler over both Raffine's Tower and Savai Triome, Probe over Badlands, (at this point starts begging for lands), Skullclamp over Temple Garden (wheeled but could have gotten scrubland too), Bowmasters over Sacred Foundry, Arcane Denial over Blackleaf Cliffs, and Iconoclast over Concealed Courtyard.
Not saying all of these were wrong but I think some of them HAD to be wrong. When you are feeling the need for lands sometimes even off color duals enables fetches to fix that wouldn't otherwise fix and just in general I think duals to enable potential splash > Jace or spellbomb in pack 1 and 2 color triome > iteration pack 2 when you're in need of duals at a minimum.
Also, I like deathrite as a sideboard option against reanimator when you passed a late Grislebrand and Bitter Triumph. Spec on Citadel is reasonable but I think sideboard cards are being undervalued in general.
Cheeky little outro
Lezzzgooo
Why do you keep saying Teferi makes swords to plowshares into an instant? You said it multiple times. Are you saying they can't play stuff in response?
I think it was plussing Teferi untapped two lands at end of turn, so he could use that mana for swords.
@@lealetourneau1832 I got that part, the second time he said it though, it was strange. It was another odd mana situation with currency converter to play, but he mentioned teferi again.
It does sound weird, but based on the context of when LSV said it, I agree with Lea.
I thought he was joking like with the seat of synod tapping for blue with urza. I assumed he was pretending it was mini tef, and that swords was a sorcery 😂🤷♂️
@@bumpasaurus487 yeah, I assume it's a joke. But I'm curious is there's something else or just some forgetfulness.
4 pick's in not a lion's eye or candle deck is ridiculous
Hear me out, this deck looks like an absolute pile of jank, but tons of subtle interactions make it. Very difficult deck to build, certainly takes knowing your cube
Would Mox Diamond have been good in a 5-color deck with bad fixing and a million clunky card draw engines? We will never know.
He wasn’t a 5 color deck either bad fixing and a million clunky card draw engines when he passed it.
Check the tape. LSV himself describes it as a "4-color value deck" seconds before the Mox Diamond was opened. Already had Jace, Teferi, M&B, and Kitten at that point. Four 4+ drops that generate value for sitting on the battlefield, 0 sources of mana acceleration to get them into play early enough for them to do so successfully.
By contrast, he had just 3 artifacts for Urza in his pool, and of those, only 1 artifact that naturally sits on the battlefield vs 2 that need to be cycled out of play to provide their effect. The last thing he needed was another value 4-drop (particularly one that would ask him to dedicate multiple more picks toward cheap artifacts when his pool was already behind schedule on picking up fixing, acceleration, and cheap interaction.)

It makes me sad that you get to continually play vintage where I have to wait for random periods throughout the year. I wish mtgo vintage cube was year round as it is the only format I play
