    Those who booed at the Brisbane game were booing years of inability to get it done / embarrassing results in big games (like the celebration of the 2004 premiership / prelims / Ebert tribute game / showdowns). Just because those fans had their point proven again, doesn't mean they were barracking for it. I'm positive most would love actually have egg on their face. The media seem to think it's a big contingent of fans vs Ken. It's actually a contingent of fans vs perpetual mediocrity, Ken is just the last common denominator.

    The Home state final is only a Vic thing though. In QLD or NSW it's not like they will get GWS or GC to play at the bigger venue is it. An underlying reason for them being at the G is contracts, but also the amount of tickets they are slated for everyone who isn't a member or fan. If you play games at smaller venues, Marvel or GMHBA, then you either need to exclude members or exclude corporates. The AFL would rather prioritize the corporates but can't actually do that because there will be an upheaval.
    It's not plausible, but it's a shame the game can't have a Wembley equivalent, where big finals because a thing of neutral territory for both teams. At least by way of ground experience.

    I'm a Port fan and the first thing I said after the game is that the biggest disappointment was the fact the players just gave up. They don't have the never give in mentality that Port had in the 80s and 90s. I don't completely blame Ken, because he lost Dan, Kane and Butters, but he also made the wrong selection, choosing big names instead if ready players, and he kept JHF off at the wrong time. We can still make the GF, but even if we do, I want Ken out and I don't want Josh Carr taking over. I want Buckley, or someone else from outside the club to be the next coach.

      I Kenny has damaged his chances of getting to West Coast with that performance... I support the Eagles and had an open mind about Hinkley a month ago, but Im pretty quickly moving to the MacQualter camp after that diabolical performance. Its been a long time since Ive seen a capitulation like that ... playing at home, against an interstate opponent...its not the fact they lost, heck WCE lost to Sydney week one in 2006 and they rebounded to win the flag, but to go down by 80 odd points? That is a disaster... I dont know why he played Dixon, and some of his other selections havent panned out either.. and to cap it off, they now have to play the hottest team in the comp Hawthorn!!! I dont think even a prelim will save him now. He will have to win a flag to just see out his contract.

    • @nathanjrobertson
      @nathanjrobertson 3 месяца назад +4

      The players gave up because "Plan A" wasn't working, and the coaching staff don't have any "Plan B". When "Plan A" works they beat Sydney by 100 points. When it doesn't, they lose by 80. They lose like that because they're unable to pivot during a game.

    Agree with Jimmy about the Port boys giving up, I can only hope it was because they knew it was over and were just trying to get it over with no one hurt for next week and that the lack of tactics for obvious things is very concerning. But Eiddie is off his tree thinking they don't want to play at the Adelaide Oval. If that was the case why not lose to Freo in the final round so they'd play Geelong in Geelong week one and straight through to a prelim and it would've saved Farrell getting injured? Nonsense.

If you are going to talk a professional AFL foot player, the role model has to be Collingwood legend Scott Pendlebury. I don't hate the Blues, but when it comes to Trash talking, I was down on one knee praying for the half-time siren to sound with the Blues being scoreless. Talking finals at the weekend. Swans/Giants, 45,000, SCG. Hawks/Bulldogs, 97,000, MCG. Having finals away from the MCG is ridiculous. Jimmy could be treading water 200ks out to sea, and a Collingwood rescue boat shows up, Jimmy would wave it on. This was a great show, guys.

    Whenever they lose, it's because of the other coaches (Bartel), players (Whateley), the list (Kane), South Australia and Warren Tredrea specifically (Caro), the SANFL (Koch) and even the fans (Robbo).
    At what point does the buck stop with Ken?

      @@Macedonian_91 clearly a Collingwood supporter here, aren’t you. You probably think that Geelong should not have their own home ground, and that Geelong get too many games down at KP?
      Think about this- do homegrounds have an advantage? A quick check… so you don’t get all Collingwood-eyed on me… would you rather play a game at Adelaide or MCG? Was that the MCG? Why? Is it because of the crowd? … so what you are saying then is- the crowd and ground shape help you win?
      Well- it is the same for Geelong. But we only get to play 8 home games a year at Geelong, but Collingwood get how many (14) ?compared to 8 for Geelong… so why is Geelong so good when we compared to Collingwood over the last 20 years?
      We have build a great stadium that houses 40,000 people… that is the same same as the GABBA but we don’t complain about the amount of seats there. Of the 13 stadiums used throughout the year it ranks 7th and will still grow to more… it will rival Marvel in numbers in a few years. Why can’t we use that in the modern game for a z Collingwood match? I bet at 60,000 people coming they would make more money than having to hire out the MCG every year for the big matches! Especially when sometimes Collingwood matches are at low 40,000 people (2021, r9 is a good example)…

    Eddie complaining about the non Victorian clubs is rich. The West Coast Eagles and Brisbane Lions saved the VFL at the end of 1986, the administrator was going to wind the VFL up and sell its assets, it was bankrupt. The two interstate teams paid over 2 million in license fees which saved the organization and allowed it to become what it is today. As for the idea that all prelim finals should be played at the MCG, pfft.. so absurd it doesnt even warrant a response. You earn the right to have a final Ed.. thats how its done. As for the Grand Final till 2054.. as far as I recall, none of the interstate clubs were consulted about it.. because they would have opposed it... The MCG is not neutral and never has been. The Superbowl is in a different city every year, as is the Champions League final.. ergo, in the big tournaments, you play the final at different venues. You can keep it in the footy heartland by rotating it between Perth Adelaide and Melbourne. Whoever gets the final has to guarantee a certain amount of money to be paid to the AFL, so they essentially pay for the privilege. then Im pretty sure nobody would oppose that.. except people like Eddie McGuire who seems to think the universe revolves around Melbourne.
