- After a four year battle with cancer, Zach Sobiech passed away on May 20th of last year. Just over a week after he died, Katie spoke with Zach's mother, Laura, on the show. Now, one year later, she's looking back on how Zach learned to live while dying.

My cousin died of osteosarcoma when we both were 11. This movie just reminded me of her fight. She got her right leg amputated but she was so happy. She always had a smile on her face even on those days that she could hardly move. She thought me that life is beautiful and that little things are the things that matter the most. God is wonderful and he gave the opportunity to be her best friend in those days. God bless you all

The thing that makes me so envious of this young man and his fantastic parents is that his family is so loving. He would have been a great dad himself because of the 'manual' he learned from. Many of us are not that lucky, as children and as parents. It's a great miracle and mystery. And I'm jealous of him.

Although I did not know Zach, I get chocked up each time I hear his song. He was an inspirational individual. We all need to take a moment and learn from him. If we did that then maybe a lot our our troubles would go away.

Thank you for posting this. I really wanted to see Laura on Katie today and couldn't be home. She's an incredible woman and mother. I'm so glad she wrote her wonderful book about her amazing son Zach.
Zach legacy lives on in so many beautiful ways.i read the book which i believe should be read by sll those who work in oncology because one can learn so much.the sobiech family are wonderful,loving and caring,and zach was a true hero with an angelic soul who now flies up up up with the angels.may his memory live on and be a blessing.

A friend of mine had worked with Zach's aunt and said she remembered hearing about his passing. I remember hearing his song shortly after he passed and didn't know his story til I seen the previews for the movie and was shocked and sad to hear he died

Life is a like a lit lantern and some of us run of juice faster than others. Zach showed us that it isn't for how long the lantern gives light, but that it lights up others' path with the example of the way we live! Bravo Zach! I just said a special prayer for you!! I have watched Zach’s story. He comforted ppl about his death. His death wasn’t his life. With the short time he lived he found a way to live his life as full as possible. I only know him via youtube but he has had an impact on my life. Laura you’re in my heart. 🙏🌹

I know I watched it last week and every single time I tell myself I'm going to watch it again and just knowing how sad the movie is and that is going to make me cry I always stop myself from watching the movie but it's a great Disney movie about an incredible young man who battles with cancer and was really very strong and I'm going to one day I watch the movie again and if I cry and I don't care the movie is inspirational not just sad everyone will remember who he was
My Goddaughter was diagnosed with Leukemia at age 3 (is now in full remission and aged 11) and she said the exact thing Zach did...

The song at the beginning is the same song in the bio of that girl Caroline who died recently
