may be a breed thing bc my childhood dog looked kinda like sean and he was an anxious boy, especially in his older years he licked and panted a lot
@@rylout1786 in the video Rhett mentioned that Sean was abused or mistreated in some way before they adopted him (Sean is 2), which is the cause of his anxiety, but i’ve heard it’s also common in some breeds of dogs to be more prone to anxiety, so 🤷♂️

Sean is a lucky dog who has no clue right now what a loving household he will be growing up in 🙂 I'm so glad that Link and Rhett adopt from the shelters. I LOVE these dog gmmores!
In the rescue-world we have a "Rule of Three": 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn your routine, and 3 months to feel fully at home. So Sean has 2 more months for more improvement for y'all to see.
As a groomer, their understanding of his grooming process is amazing and so refreshing. Understanding his matting and being shaved, needing to adjust, and maybe being a little traumatized by the grooming process after a severely matted shave down and needing positive grooming training. Amazing. Love to see it ❤

@@ColFlustered when dogs show the whites of their eyes! they usually only do that when very stressed, often before biting as their last resort to say “please stop”. definitely recommend looking into do body language may save you from a bite some day :)

Seeing Rhett, this deep-voiced, tall man with a tiny little puppy brings so much joy into my life.
Rhett, thank you to you and your family for adopting a rescue dog and giving him a good life. He needs a gentle giant for a dad.

Seeing Rhett get a new dog has made me smile a little. My 15 yr old boy was put down last Tuesday and I see similarities between him and Sean. 🐩

Link is the only person I know of that'll proudly admit to a fart he didn't even do.
Sean is just like my dog Qtip- he fell asleep standing and would let us touch him for almost a week. I slept on the tile floor with him for the whole week until he let me touch him.

So cute and small!! You can tell he's nervous, but Rhett is such a sweet soul to take care of him
He's so cute! I have an adopted doggo that was abused and is an angry boi with toenail clipping, too. Positive reinforcement has done wonders for him. I'm excited for Shawn to begin to feel more secure and confident in his new home. however, it still takes 4 vet techs to cut my spicy boi's toenails (one to hold him so he can't bite, two to clip, one to clean up the nervous pooping). I highly recommend positive reinforcement and positive association with paw touching and trimming to try to eventually be able to trim the toenails yourself and/or make it easier for the vet techs.

I had such a similar experience with our second dog, we thought he hated us for a few days. He still gets nervous when we pet him 5+ years later but he is the sweetest most loving puppy. This story was like hearing our story played back 🤣

With adopting dogs you never know what you get but its sooo important to adopt instead of buying. All the doggies deserve a home. 🖤 So glad you decided to adopt!! First time owners should rlly think about it tho bc they can have issues.
Adopting can definitely be a challenge for first time owners, especially if the dog is older. But once you do your research and can see the improvement in your pet, it is so worth it!

This is so cool! I’m actually getting a puppy tomorrow around the same age as Sean! I’m disabled and unfortunately alone most of the time so my mom has gotten me a new companion to spend my time with! I’m so excited ☺️
Over time, Barbara will teach Sean how to be a dog and that he is completely safe! Congrats! ✌🏽💙

I agree. I adopted an anxious cat and I already had a very bold and confident cat at home. The anxious cat definitely learned from the other one and now he's much more secure and brave now. They really do teach each other just by being around each other.

Sean's adoption story reminds me of my George. He looks exactly like Barbara though. He was all hairy and matted, and when we took him to the groomers and he was near shaved!

Oh my gooooodness! Your puppy has the exact same collar as our boy Sebien!!! I'm so excited I can't stand it! Now I can go to work this morning and tell everyone about how our smoll boys are twinning! ❤️ and Sebien is a rescue, too. And he's super timid. We've had him a year and he loves us to the moon but he's still bashful and nervous. Best boy! Hugs from South Carolina!

The difference between hair and fur is that dogs with hair don't have a undercoat and don't shed as much.
The kind of hair he has looks like it matts easily. The short cut was necessary if he was badly matted.
Hair is one strand per follicle. Fur is multiple strands per follicle, usually 5 to 7. :)

My dog also tries to bite when getting his nails shaved but you don’t have to take him to the vet. I have taken my dog to other businesses that allow me to help soothe my dog, or they have multiple people there to help, or I hire someone to come to our home and shave the dogs nails. Plenty of options for nervous dogs!
When we got my dog he was a puppy and I was pregnant. He was very shaky and nervous but connected with me specifically and he and I still cuddle all these 4 years later.
He's precious! Barbara has a baby brother now. So cute!

i work with dogs, a lot of them try to bite or aggressive for nails. it all comes down to knowing in advance so we can muzzle them

So cute! That's pretty much how we got our Cooper. My daughter sent me a pic of this puppy and I literally turned to my mom and said, Dammit. We gotta go get a dog. Best thing ever, saved us during the pandemic. Also, a hairy dog cuz I am allergic too. Good luck with potty training!

I have a 3 year old golden retriever who is nervous in new places and new people and can be territorial at home. Be patient with Sean, he will come around with patience and positive reinforcement. Happy birthday Rhett!

shelters are usually super overrun, so i’m sure he got matted bc he wasn’t able to be brushed everyday, that’s why he got shaved. it’s sad they couldn’t take care of him properly but it’s rly hard to when there’s so many
