You can always go to circa pool for $30. When i went to vegas in july I stayed at the Mirage during the week (which i used their beautiful pools)and el cortez on the weekend.
This video made me want to experience a few days of nostalgia and stay at EL Cortez. Not many Vegas RUclipsrs visit the Cortez so HUGE thank you to Ruby for highlighting this OLD SCHOOL Vegas gem.
I love the El Cortez. Sure, it's "no frills", but I've always felt comfortable and had a good time. Not a ton of dining as you said, but there are a ton of cool restaurants right outside!
El Cortez is one of the OG Vegas casinos. Still seems like it has that old Vegas feeling to it, yet it still seems modern at the same time. Definitely going to check this one out sometime.
Hey Ruby. Elcortez is the best . We have been going there since 2010. There is 2 other restaurants that are located across the street you can use your food comp point at and they are EUREKA AND ICHIBAN. They are great places to eat also. Siegels also has a wonderful breakfast. Thanks for your review. It’s also just that old fashioned Vegas feel. 💖
Awesome video. I remember back in the 90's, walking from the Fremont St. experience all the way over to the El Cortez felt like taking your life in your hands. Now that area has been revitalized with really fun bars and restaurants, and the walk is a lot of fun. I love playing at the El Cortez. It's a great slice of old school Las Vegas and a really nice break from the strip.
It seems like a great option for people on a budget. A lot of that old Mob vegas feel and mentality of "we'll draw you in with our super low prices and free stuff, we'll make our money from the gambling." It's nice to see that over the corporate America vegas of "we'll squeeze every nickle we can out of you with fees" Nice review Ruby!
They do offer an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant across the street which you can use your comp points on your reward card. Also, they do offer free parking for their guests.
your video is professionly filmed, directed, produced, acted, narrated and edited... love the selection of the background music... everything just blends so well together... awesome review... thanks... 👍😎👍❤
Love the Cortez! Have stayed in the renovated rooms on several occasions, and rooms are great. Love the casino and atmosphere. One of my favorite places in Vegas.
Awesome video!!!! Visited this Casino about 30 years ago with a shrewd business man that knew the best hidden gems to visit while in Vegas. So happy that this place is still here and I will make it a point to stay in the near future thanks to you and your video. :) RIP Skip & Barabara, you both are in my thoughts forever.
I was just in Vegas this past weekend and we did a lot of gambling at El Cortez. The thought crossed my mind "what would it be like to stay here?" and then your video came up! Great video👍
Loved the video. My late wife used to stay there in the early 1990s. To many memories for me to go back. But it was really nice to see again. Much love everyone 💕💞
The El Cortez has always been one of my favorite hotel casinos in Las Vegas. I like it because it is one of the only casino left that still has that "old Vegas" ambiance to it. Does that make sense? Maybe I'm showing my age BUT, well, that is why I love this hotel so very much. Thanks for making this video and best of luck with your channel!
I was just in las vegas in Jan 2022. This was the one hotel downtown that I was really captivated by. It had a charm that I really enjoyed. We stayed at the Circa, which was also great...but, this had that old school vibe that I personally was feeling. I didnt have much time to really explore, but Im into this place.
We were just in Vegas too. It was our first time. We stayed on strip at Luxor which was great. But our favorite part of downtown/Freemont St. was our visit to El Cortez. We loved the charming old school feel as well. We think we'll stay there our next time in Vegas.
I always win something at El Cortez. It’s old school but cheap drinks so you can’t go wrong. I stayed there before it was renovated and now I’ll have to stay again to try out the new rooms. Thanks for the review 🤗
Got comped a 2 BR suite at Delano in September. Checking flights, cheaper to go a couple days earlier...so thought for the same price I can find a place downtown for a couple days too. Watched this video, looked at booking at El cortez because of your recommendation. Almost hit "book" and thought "you went there once a couple years ago...you should check old emails...might be a discount code." Looked. There was! So 3 days comped, no fees plus some free food and slot play ($25 ea.) WIN! I WENT THERE ONCE! Get those players cards! Mgm owes me the suite, free food and freeplay...but el cortez? Nope. Went once, won $1000, and left. Old vegas in more ways than one! Keep up the great videos! Thanks!
El Cortez is a lot of fun! You can use your comps for food at Eureka which is a nice place to eat. You can’t use the food credit there though which sucked for us last time we were there because they gave us $150 in food credit that we couldn’t use all of it. Love your content!
The intro song is great. It is a cover of a song originally from a1971Dean Martin western of the same name. Performed by Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders. Written by Burt Bacharach.
The tower was built in 1980 so it's 40ish years old. The original rooms are the vintage rooms which are above the casino towards Fremont street, and only accessible via stairs. There are 4 room types. Vintage, cabana suites, pavilion, and tower (shown here). The cabana suites are in a separate building directly out the back door and across Ogden Avenue. The pavilion rooms are 70's motor hotel style rooms attached to the parking garage. The tower and cabana suites are the better rooms.
Loved this place. Great casino that paid out way better than ones on the Strip, close to a more authentic experience, and way more affordable. One thing I'd tell visitors is to make sure and get a Tower Room at least, unless you're looking to party to 5:00 am everyday. I stayed in the Cabana rooms one night right across from a club and partied until about 3:00 a.m.. There wasn't a lot of sound proofing, so I couldn't get to sleep until the club next door closed around 4:30. But the next night I talked with the front desk staff, and they were super accommodating and put me up in a tower room for no extra charge. Great casino, great staff, great slots, affordable, not super commercialized, El Cortez was a blast. If I go back to Vegas, I'll stay at the El Cortez on Fremont.
I usually stay at the Golden Nugget downtown (Rush Tower rooms are awesome) but do stop in the El Cortez casino. Love that old school feel to the place, the vibe and the coin slots! I've heard nice things about the rooms at El Cortez and you pretty much confirmed this. I could see staying there on a future trip. Thanks for the great video!
Great video as always. Neat to see you repping my favourite record label. I always appreciate the Boom Bap/Jazzhop vibes during the edits in your videos.
Love El Cortez!!! First hotel I ever stayed at when visiting Vegas and now I live within walking distance (usually to hit up Siegal's). I just wish they had a pool.
It just looks beautiful. And kind of takes me back to the good ole days! Omg right before you said something about the paranormal I was thinking there is a good spirit right behind you by that sign.
Because of your video... My wife and I gave it a try this evening and were very disappointed with the property. We've been vegas locals since 1994 and Love Fremont.
Was there in July. Loved the no-frills atmosphere, also stayed in a tower king room (mine was not handicap accessible). Siegel's was fantastic, try the matzo ball soup, delicious.
I’m watching this setting in El Cortez having breakfast had the Prime Rib special last night for dinner. It’s $16.95 still good dinner. MY first stay here I normally stay at the other end of Fremont St but I’ll stay here from now on. Mrs Ruby is correct love the rooms and it is quite no Fremont street noise.
Nice review! Not a lot of vloggers would review the Cortez but its a great little locals joint. Cortez always has the loosest slots and the best odds for the low limit player.. The late Jackie Gaughan used to live on the top floor of the hotel. He would come down to the casino and chat with the dealers and customers and give out promotions and coupons. He was real old school Vegas; knew how to treat his customers right. RIP Mr Gaughan.
So glad you are doing casino and hotels off the Strip. I always play at El Cortez when I go to Vegas even if I'm staying on the Strip. The slot games are good and I always seem to win something on them. If you don't want to take a taxi or Uber, the Deuce stops right across the street from El Cortez and is very convenient. Also if you like Thai food, Le Thai restaurant is right across the street and they have lunch specials
A few decades back I had and aunt and uncle that owned 1/4 of the Cortez going back to 1951. When I was kid I wondered how they could afford all the trips they had a boat berthed in a bay in Cali. They were cool folks sure do miss their stories.
Good review thanks for the information on the LCortez. The only thing I would say is the distance from El Cortez to food is just as far as walking through one of those mega properties on the strip
Love the Cortez. My wife and I always have fun there and it brings back nostalgic memories of what Vegas used to be. The Thai place across the street called Le Thai is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the bbq pork rib fried rice
Looks like a great old school place. Hubby wants to stay on Fremont next time but I was really worried about the noise. This seems like a good compromise, and no pool isn’t a deal breaker for us.
The casinos used to give out coupon books..how fun that El Cortez still does that! 25 cent shrimp coctail at the Las Vegas club, back in the day..sounds like something to go back to see, again! Thank you! A bit of the old vegas sparkle...👏👏👏
the real interesting rooms are the oldest rooms literally above the casino-- I've stayed in those which were cheap. It was like staying in a room from the 1950s. They also have upscale rooms across the street.
Siegel’s is outstanding. Always good. Please try some other menu choices like the Prime Rib, salmon, or breakfast. Service is five star. I’ve always had a good time at El Cortez and my rooms have been quiet as well. Thanks Ruby.
Just recently booked 2 nights there for July. I'm celebrating my birthday weekend in LA, then off to Las Vegas for a couple days. It's pretty much going to be a whirlwind visit. I chose that hotel for the complimentary airport shuttle. That place looks like it's got more the classic Rat Pack vibe.
The El Cortez was the first Casino in Vegas where I broke-in dealing craps! End of 1992. $20 a day in pay, $20 a day in tips. I was living out of my camper in the back of my truck for a couple of months, and I actually saved enough to rent an apt. near UNLV.
My first job in Las Vegas was working for Jackie Gaughan's company. Am subscribed and hit the like button. This is a historic hotel. They have older slot machines at the El Cortez. My late wife would love it. When I lived in Las Vegas you didn't want to be here at night. The casino is nice. Couldn't play here because I worked for the owner and he owned five downtown hotel/Casinos. Personally prefer off strip hotels.
Great review and so glad you did this on El Cortez! It really is great to stay and play there as I tell people all the time. I agree with you on the food choice, very limited. Siegel's used to be good many years ago, but the food quality has gone down. The renovated rooms are very nice and I like they still have coin drop VP there as well. Always like to stay there and will be doing that again in December.
Thanks for this review - helped me choose this hotel for the Grand Prix time. Really the most affordable strip or Fremont today. 🙂 We'll see when other hotels open up that time 🙂
Down town is the place to stay as the prices in the "old" Las Vegas are much better than on the strip. The Main Street Station and The Calf. are my fav.
Been to Las Vegas three times. Last two times we were there spent most of our time in el Cortez. 8 years ago you could play single deck blackjack with a min 5 dlls bet. Last time was like 6 months ago. It’s 4 deck and min bet is 15. Still better than 25 in any strip casino. Our next visit we will stay in there. Fremont street is like 5 min walking. If you go there get the comp card. If you show them your flight ticket they’ll give you a free drink, 10 dlls for a slot machine and 15 dlls for a table game.
I like the vintage rooms just off the stair case. They are very basic but big! It feels like you are staying in the casino, I liked it. Like one minute from the room to a slot.
As recently as 2005, I'd see Jackie Gaughan at the poker room just inconspicuously playing. I sat in a few times. I'm glad to see it got a little boost because it was getting pretty rundown there for a while.
If you enjoyed the video I would very much appreciate if you hit that Subscribe button 😁
Comment below your thoughts on El Cortez in Las Vegas!
Nice room.
Love the rainfall shower head. Sigels 1941 is pretty good!
You can always go to circa pool for $30. When i went to vegas in july I stayed at the Mirage during the week (which i used their beautiful pools)and el cortez on the weekend.
I stayed there about 17 years ago. The room was nostalgic at $18 a night with no resort fee.
@@edwardeighth1948 I'll be honest I hate their high limit room. Dragon link I've never won anything on. People seem to like it.
This video made me want to experience a few days of nostalgia and stay at EL Cortez. Not many Vegas RUclipsrs visit the Cortez so HUGE thank you to Ruby for highlighting this OLD SCHOOL Vegas gem.

Eureka is a great option
@@brenharwood7736 Yes it is. It is very good. 🙌
She forgot those spots
@H C it may have went downhill cause I liked it😫
Do they have a shuttle that goes to airport?
Awesome video. I remember back in the 90's, walking from the Fremont St. experience all the way over to the El Cortez felt like taking your life in your hands. Now that area has been revitalized with really fun bars and restaurants, and the walk is a lot of fun. I love playing at the El Cortez. It's a great slice of old school Las Vegas and a really nice break from the strip.
I remember making that trek in the 90s. Not only was it scary, but property was so badly run down it was not worth the trip. Today, it is a must see.
It seems like a great option for people on a budget. A lot of that old Mob vegas feel and mentality of "we'll draw you in with our super low prices and free stuff, we'll make our money from the gambling." Excellent review Ruby. El Cortez is my favorite venue Downtown and you did a great job!
Thanks so much!
It’s right next to the Life is Beautiful music festival that happens every September!
My husband and I always have a great time there. We've been going to el cortez for years. We love the vibe there!
I was just in Vegas this past weekend and we did a lot of gambling at El Cortez. The thought crossed my mind "what would it be like to stay here?" and then your video came up! Great video👍

To many memories for me to go back. But it was really nice to see again. Much love everyone 💕💞
The Cabana Suites at the El Cortez is my favorite place to stay. Stylish, affordable and clean.
We stayed there in October of this year and it was great! Location, Casino, Drinks! All of the above! Love Fremont Street much better than the Strip!
Me too!
Can’t stand the strip, downtown is so much easier to navigate
Speakeasy is the best barber experience in Vegas! It's the reason I found El Cortez and fell in love with the place.

El Cortez is my favorite. Gives me chills that Bugsy Siegel own and ran it. Old Vegas still alive!
Great value for that very nice room! The option for a coffee maker is a great tip. Thank you for another honest and informative review!

Very very nice, I remember 30 years ago , this used to be such a dump, county jail was across the street. Now it nice and updated
Love the music... Old school is the best... I always stay at the vintage places when I can.. nostalgia rules

My parents always stayed at the Cortez back in the 70s. RIP mom and dad. Great review!
WOW that's the most beautiful room out of all the Downtown hotels you've reviewed so far! Will definitely consider this place for my next Vegas trip 😀
It just looks beautiful. And kind of takes me back to the good ole days! Omg right before you said something about the paranormal I was thinking there is a good spirit right behind you by that sign.
Place has a very distinct bomb smell. Always walk through there when I go downtown. I see you in that Rhymesayers shirt too 👏👊
Damn straight yo! That was a well done informative video of the El Cortez. Thank you Travel Ruby, much appreciated.
Because of your video... My wife and I gave it a try this evening and were very disappointed with the property. We've been vegas locals since 1994 and Love Fremont.

I worked my first casino job there...many moon ago...the place is comfortable and I'm a fan of the upgrades. Plenty to eat all around the place.
El Cortez getting some love!! 😍

First hotel I ever stayed at in Vegas love it there
The El Cortez was the first Casino in Vegas where I broke-in dealing craps! End of 1992. $20 a day in pay, $20 a day in tips. I was living out of my camper in the back of my truck for a couple of months, and I actually saved enough to rent an apt. near UNLV.

Siegel's used to be good many years ago, but the food quality has gone down. The renovated rooms are very nice and I like they still have coin drop VP there as well. Always like to stay there and will be doing that again in December.
Just love ❤️ your music vibes
I liked the El Cortez as it was close to the Fremont Experience without all the noise. Room prices are very reasonable.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS RUBY! LOVE THE COLOR OF YOUR NAIL POLISH!
Really enjoyed the video it's nice to see some of the lesser known hotels
Nice Rhymesayers shirt! Love this tour, keep up the good work.
Thanks for this review - helped me choose this hotel for the Grand Prix time. Really the most affordable strip or Fremont today. 🙂 We'll see when other hotels open up that time 🙂
Very informative video. Thanks so much.
My wife and I stayed in the cabana suites, they ar very small. The room you guys stayed in looks like it has plenty of space.
LOVE THAT PLACE, THEY USED TO HAVE A FINE DINNING PLACE, I HOPE THEY BRING IT BACK
Mr. Ruby your video work is really good in all your videos! Plus, all the editing you guys do. Awesome
That Rhymsayers shirt is 🔥 Ruby!
Wow! Thanks for showing us that, Travel R. The El C is definitely better looking on the inside than on the outside. Love the coin slot machines!
Great review. Thank you for your deedback.
Down town is the place to stay as the prices in the "old" Las Vegas are much better than on the strip. The Main Street Station and The Calf. are my fav.
You didn’t mention the quick check in, free parking for guest & airport courtesy shuttle Drop-off. This place is great. 😎👍🌼
Never stayed at El Cortez but always stop in whenever I hit Vegas. Love the prime rib at Siegel's.
Enjoyed your video. I have gambled and dined at the El but haven't stayed. The 14.95 Prime Rib special is SOLID!!!
I have always wanted to stay there just for a new experience close to freemont st, thanks for the great tour of the place

My favorite bar when I want that old Vegas vibe...
Luv the Burt Bacharach music forever!
