Just bought a crx80.. makes the exact same noise.. seems quite loud ! Seems to be common with 12v compressors.. hopefully it quietens down with age as you say !
we've just installed a CRE50 and when its not buzzing it makes a sort of knocking noise every minute or so, which is more annoying than the buzzing when the compressor is running. Is this normal?
No, I don't think it's normal - Make sure that there's plenty of clearance between the compressor / pipework and the other bits of the van - the compressor wobbles about a bit when starting or stopping which can give a knocking noise if it manages to touch any furnture, etc. You could try running the fridge without anything around it - if it's still knocking them, there may be something wrong with it.

Mine started doing that last night just on 12v off landline. Wondering if it’s a low battery thing? Kicks in if I start the van and fine on 240.

I think so - I don't find it annoying. If anything, I think it has quietened down as it has got older (either that, or I've got used to it).
