If you like David Chang, he recently started a podcast about the restaurant business. He is also interviewed as a kind of big brother to the creator of Milk bar in "A Chef's Table: Pastry. episode 1”.
"What's it like when you get a bad review?" "It's so hard, and I take it very personal, because I wanna be my harshest critic." Trump, make note of this. This is a philosophy you would benefit from.
Once asked the waitress at a sushi place in Manhattan if I could get sushi with cream cheese. She gave me a weird look and said, "I don't think we can do that, I'll have to ask." I was confused because I thought cream cheese was a pretty standard ingredient at sushi places. She came back with my sushi, I started eating it and it was the most delicious sushi I'd ever had... but it wasn't cream cheese. It was kimchi. The waitress thought I had said kimchi, and I have no idea why a sushi place had it, but the combination was pretty amazing.
Music Production I was stationed in Korea in the early 90's and love the food kimbap to ojingeo-guk but the best by far is kalbi . And you are so right many of the Japanese restaurants in many places are Korean owned, but more are opening Korean restaurants and some with the table style bbqs .
what do you mean by 'cream cheese is a pretty standard ingredient at sushi places'? Sushi and roll are not the same thing. I bet you'd be surprised if you go to Japan... or a real sushi place.
Yeah, that checks out with everything else that I know about you. Your entire personality is microwaved Bugles. Also, do you really think anyone believes you eat ANYTHING without processed cheese? You can't even write without using it.
I love kimchi! Anyone in North America who hasn't yet discovered Asian Supermarkets is *seriously* missing out. I actually can't imagine what my life would be like without a major part of my diet including mostly asian food that is bought there. Tofu, rice, rice rolls, rice noodles, packs of dried & salted seaweed, seaweed, sushi, wasabi, wasabi peas, curry powder, curry broth for soup, miso paste, etc. the list just goes on and on. I'm eating curry coconut rice with lots of veggies right now! Also, I'm vegan. Asian supermarkets have a ton of stuff that is fantastic for a vegetarian or vegan diet. I bet most people haven't thought of this, but it's absolutely true.
+Liam, you really need to lighten up. people make choices. most Americans spend a ton of money on eating out. i don't. it's a choice. 2nd, if you were less off which you apparently are not, you would notice a lot of poor and even homeless folks using the internet at the library, McDonald's, Starbuck's and Safeway supermarkets. If you don't know that, you must be pretty well off. Be grateful that you are.
Greatest spot to use kimchi...lasagna. Seriously. It works so nice with tomato and cheese and takes any lasagna to another level. I wish David Chang had mentioned that because really, everybody needs to add kimchi to their lasagna!
The US's Domino's pizza is bad, but I like the Mexico's Domino's pizza. On the other hand Mexico's Little Caesar is shit, but the US's Little Caesar is the best I've tasted. Pizza Hut is shit no matter where I go.
Pizza Hut sausage has WWWWAAAAYYYYY too much fennel in it. If I want sausage to taste like black licorice I'll damned well make it out of the stuff - HMMPH!
Sorry, but I have never been to Guadalajara and when I travel I tend to go to anywhere nearby where its cheap. So they tend to be local chains or restaurants.
Kimchee is delicious on both hot dogs AND hamburgers. If you haven't tried it yet I recommend both. I just buy my kimchee at the local grocery store. Hell, even Walmart carries it now I think and it's healthy for you.
David Chang your always seem fried out and hungover. Not necessarily in this video but Besides that you cook good and teach well and I love your channels
I am soooooooooooo sensitive to Chinese food, which sucks bc I loved it. I thought it was the MSG, but my friend pointed out that MSG is in EVERYTHING and it was probably one of the ingredients that they buy from China.
Domino’s pizza makes me physically ill. Last time I had it was 2001. Never again. At Pizza Hut my one year old was served sour milk. Never again. It’s Little Caesar’s or Marco’s for me.
Americans just take a while to appropriate foreign ingredients. Germans came to America a long time ago, thus sauerkraut has since been appropriated (along with hamburgers and hot dogs). Koreans have been in America far less time. Want more proof? Chinese food is an American staple, but the Chinese have been here since the 1800s.
Sauerkraut on a hotdog has become pretty Americanized. Where is kimchi on a hotdog is still a pretty foreign concept to most Americans. If you had any concept of nuance you wouldn’t need this explained to you.
I thought he (Steve) said, 'that's the immigrants I've know'... which I thought sounded nice. G-d bless Korea for bringing kimchi, the first typefont, first ironclad ship- military strategy, and all the tech of the smart phone, televideo, and High Definition and for sending the most missionaries to the world with the good news of Yesu, who was predicted by their older cousins- the Chinese... All Glory to G-d/Yesu in Heaven !
Eats sauerkraut - "that's a hot dog." Eats kimchi - "that's an immigrant's hot dog." SMH Stephen. Just proved David's point about how there is racism associated with foods.
you ignored the obvious to start playing your racism card. as was explained earlier, sauerkraut has ALWAYS been accepted as normal topping for hotdogs, and part of the American hotdog image. jesus Christ, you guys need to comprehend what you are hearing, instead of just waiting for specific words that can enable your bullshit narrative.
Hot dog + Kimchi is nothing new; we used to put cut-up franks (and Kimchi and eggs and American cheese) in our Shin Ramyun/Neoguri all the time when we were kids.
I love Stephen but you can see the implicit racism in how he called the kimchi hotdog an immigrant hot dog. Sauerkraut is also an “immigrant” dish yet we consider the kimchi to be foreign. Not saying Stephen is a racist but we always forget our biases in stuff like this.
I don't think you guys heard him say "that's more american" right before saying it's an immigrant's hot dog. His point being essentially that everything "american" originated elsewhere.
I was thinking that too. Stephen is well-meaning but even when he's trying not to be racist, he still shows his disconnect. I don't think Stephen understood the msg thing at all. When Stephen played his character, I think many of us gave him the most credit since it was satire and he was pointing out the ridiculousness of the right, and I assumed he was as "liberal" (for lack of a better term, socially aware, not racist, etc.) as can be and we loved him for it. But watching him be himself now is interesting. I'm glad David used that example too because it's those biases about various East Asian cultures that people don't think about as much in America. I thought he was going to go for the fried chicken like that episode. Also, the hotdog is probably better with kimchi, and I'm glad he liked it, but the point was more about acceptance in culture progressing rather than one country vs. another country. Like you said, saurkraut is also an immigrant dish but from white cultures. Stephen's comments unintentionally demonstrates David's point about biases. This is partly why representation would be nice in the big late night shows (which are all hosted by white males like Fallon, Colbert, Corden, Kimmel, but no offence to them personally, as they are great); even when Stephen tries to be sensitive to these things, there's a point where he can't really get it since he has never had to go through being the target of racism, even casual racism. George Lopez was great.
I love David Chang and "Ugly Delicious"... but I'd like to clear up a myth regarding Asian foods. Naturally-occurring MSG (found in tomatoes and variety of other foods, or as a natural byproduct of fermentation such as soy sauces processed using the honjozo method) isn't a problem. However, the MSG additive used as a flavor enhancer in most commercially prepared foods tends to be concentrated. For people overly sensitive to it, food with heavily concentrated MSG results in excessive glutamate in the brain, and excessive stimulation of nerve cells. Our body reacts poorly to (or can not process) that heavy concentration of excitotoxins - it leads to headaches, shortness of breath, swelling in the throat, and/or vomiting. The worst culprits aren't Asian recipes (unless they require those damn seasoning packets or use commercially prepared sauces). Instead, it's Campbell's creamed soups, Doritos and other flavored chips, and commercially frozen or canned foods that include MSG as part of the chemical mix used to 'preserve' the flavor.
I thought for sure after trying the kimchi hot dog Stephen would’ve said something about “wow that’s good.. I think I need a pregnancy test” because of the earlier idiotic crazy headline the chef mentioned. Oh well I’ll have to check out ugly delicious 😋
Ugly Delicious is actually a pretty good show. It's not likely to win any awards or anything, but I really like David's take on things and the show does a good job of expressing it.
It tickles me that kimchi and sauerkraut are the same thing - and so delicious! - and neither one of them was made in the USA. Viva los immigrants ! ! ! (Or however you say it in Spanish.)
ugly delicious is a cool show, but i just wanna say that season 1 episode 1. An exact ripoff of Frank Pinello's The Pizza Show. FRANK DESERVES SOME ROYALTIES
alexdapostman Sir, I am referring to Dominos “Pizza” which is outrageous and a disgrace to Italy. Nothing more nothing less. Everything else in this video doesn’t interest me. Religion has nothing to do with this matter. I am not interested in any Political matters. Have a nice day
I have only ordered Dominoes once in recent years and it turned up really fast and was stone cold - basically a rerouted pizza. Had to bin it. Will never go there again. We have real wood-burning traditional pizza places in town so no-one in their right mind would do Dominoes.
"Ugly delicious", I am still thinking about this series. Highly recommend.
ty 4 di rekimedationnn
The "mind of a chef" is good as well but is not a series based around solely chang.
If you like David Chang, he recently started a podcast about the restaurant business. He is also interviewed as a kind of big brother to the creator of Milk bar in "A Chef's Table: Pastry. episode 1”.
"Ugly Delicious" os pure racism
Never enjoyed a good show as much I enjoyed ugly delicious. Such an amazing show.
No. That show is dangerous. I ordered a bigger smoker halfway through the BBQ episode. 😂
Gracie C. I went out hunting for bunnies because I wondered what they tasted like after seeing it.
I find them equally the best food documentaries. ;)
Gracie C. Hahahaha I gained 5kg watching that show
Yea it was pretty good
“Did my dad raise you, too?”
😂😂😂
I'm Just A Girl Ha. that was very funny. Does anyone else think Stephen get awkward with dad jokes? I’ve never heard him talk about his dad.
R_Home8619 that's cause his dad and some of his siblings died in an accident when he was young; he was raised by his mom
Bedroom Pianist wow. I thought it was something like that. So my intuition isn’t that off.
My oldest son and I watch Ugly Delicious together. It is such a great social commentary amd has led to great conversations between us.
Love that he brought the truth of MSG out
"What's it like when you get a bad review?"
"It's so hard, and I take it very personal, because I wanna be my harshest critic."
Trump, make note of this. This is a philosophy you would benefit from.
Man you people are really circling the barrel looking for relevance. Lmao.
Once asked the waitress at a sushi place in Manhattan if I could get sushi with cream cheese. She gave me a weird look and said, "I don't think we can do that, I'll have to ask." The waitress thought I had said kimchi, and I have no idea why a sushi place had it, but the combination was pretty amazing.
Sushi with cream cheese is standard? On what planet?
sv 93 In the USA and Canada, it's a common pairing in rolls. The OG sushi doesn't use it.
Same with Avocado. Americans like that creamy stuff in their rolls.
Music Production I was stationed in Korea in the early 90's and love the food kimbap to ojingeo-guk but the best by far is kalbi . And you are so right many of the Japanese restaurants in many places are Korean owned, but more are opening Korean restaurants and some with the table style bbqs .

Representation matters. Don't see enough Asians in the media.
No talent = no space
Just as simple like that
No Name Wow. So sad to read ignorance. Analysing the dynamics of disproportionate representation in media will be lost on you. And I'm not Asian.
Every time I hear "representation matters" that person is talking about something that doesn't matter
No Name You suck. What the hell man. What gives you the right to say crap like this.
the asian media would say otherwise.
Damn I wish this interview was longer.
Brandon Rojas Right? It would be so much better as a podcast I think. The late night talk show format is becoming outdated
My fav 'lowbrow' food is Bugles stuffed with processed cheese slice bits, microwaved for like 30 seconds.
I dub these "Nach-oh-nos"
Bugles filled with spray cheeze.
New Message pass the joint homie
Yeah, that checks out with everything else that I know about you. Your entire personality is microwaved Bugles. Also, do you really think anyone believes you eat ANYTHING without processed cheese? You can't even write without using it.
New Message you are either everywhere or cloned.
His walk in the beginning, was so fast I thought it was in 1.5x play speed lol
Oh, I wish Stephen tried the hotdog with the ssam sauce. That would've been one heck of a kick.
"...- Sponsor-" Killed me more than It should have.
THIS.....this is a man of class. Much respect to ya. Domino's FTW
having a major flashback to the new yorker piece when david chang had a meltdown over the nyt review. man was that good
LOVE this guy....the dimples are everything AND he can cook....total package
"Ugly Delicious" could be renamed to "David Chang's Rage."
Should be named David Chan'g's Racism.
Not gonna lie, the kimchi hotdog made me hungry and I just had lunch 20min ago
I feel validated. I can't even afford Domino's 🚩🏧🍕
yeah dominos is pretty expensive
Domino's constantly has like full-size pizza pies with toppings for under $10. Hell no is it expensive.
1Hour ofLove
What are you doing on the internet if you can't even afford Dominos? You can't afford a large 3 topping for $7.99?
+Liam,
you really need to lighten up. people make choices. most Americans spend a ton of money on eating out. i don't. it's a choice. 2nd, if you were less off which you apparently are not, you would notice a lot of poor and even homeless folks using the internet at the library, McDonald's, Starbuck's and Safeway supermarkets. If you don't know that, you must be pretty well off. Be grateful that you are.
Bruh how are you alive?
I don't understand the hate of dominoes and Little Caesar. Love them both.
All hotdogs are immigrant hotdogs
My hot dog is 100 % American.
Almost all things in America are immigrant things, including the language.
Apart from the native hotdogs duhh
No, sauerkraut is an American original, balief me. Just saying ...
Yeah, that should be right. It didn't start from the US, as far as I know.
Amazing show!! Never thought I’d enjoy a food show that much.
Greatest spot to use kimchi...lasagna. Seriously. It works so nice with tomato and cheese and takes any lasagna to another level. I wish David Chang had mentioned that because really, everybody needs to add kimchi to their lasagna!
ayyyy who part of the mexican af clan who put valentina sauce on popcorn? LMAOOOOOOOOOOO
My man put Kimchi on a hot dog 🤯
I love Kimchi and Hot Dogs. Never thought of doing both 🤤🤤
Nice guy. Respect to David Chang.
dammit - now I'm craving a hotdog
He's the same age as John Oliver & Kanye
aishx to be far John is English so he can't help it
Ugly Delicious is great but it always makes me so hungry. lol
I agree with Colbert when he refers to Dominos as shoveling garbage.
My wife is Korean. We've been eating Kimchee hotdogs for years. Yum!
The US's Domino's pizza is bad, but I like the Mexico's Domino's pizza. On the other hand Mexico's Little Caesar is shit, but the US's Little Caesar is the best I've tasted. Pizza Hut is shit no matter where I go.
What US food chains do you recommend to try in Mexico? I go to Guadalajara once a year
Pizza Hut sausage has WWWWAAAAYYYYY too much fennel in it. If I want sausage to taste like black licorice I'll damned well make it out of the stuff - HMMPH!
Sorry, but I have never been to Guadalajara and when I travel I tend to go to anywhere nearby where its cheap. So they tend to be local chains or restaurants.
if you like us little caesars. your pallet is junk dude
To each their own.
Wooo Chef David Chang!!!
turn down your outro music volume
Kimchee is delicious on both hot dogs AND hamburgers. If you haven't tried it yet I recommend both. I just buy my kimchee at the local grocery store. Hell, even Walmart carries it now I think and it's healthy for you.
My Domino pizza: thin crust, white sauce. Chicken, tomato, bacon, onion, feta cheese
"Did my dad raise you, too?" Hahahaha
Holy s*** it really is Dave Mann Chang!
David Chang your always seem fried out and hungover. Not necessarily in this video but Besides that you cook good and teach well and I love your channels
"Melting Pot Dog!" Bow to my genius. BOW I SAY.
Don’t sleep on Kimchi...he’ll get you pregnant.
I am soooooooooooo sensitive to Chinese food, which sucks bc I loved it. I thought it was the MSG, but my friend pointed out that MSG is in EVERYTHING and it was probably one of the ingredients that they buy from China.
David Chang is fucking awesome
I like David Chen but that's hard to believe. Pizza in italy is way better than anywhere else. I've never been able to go back.
Damn. This guy speedwalked onto the stage and into the chair.
God damn. I’m Korean American and never thought to put kimchi on hot dogs.
Stephen Colbert went from beefing with K-Pop star Rain to eating Kimchi hotdogs with David Chang
He has the cutest dimple.
Volta a fazer progamaaaaaaa, preciso de suas comidas!
kimchi tastes way different than saurkraut
yup. has garlic and ground dried red korean chili peppers
Tofu house kimchi is so good
Domino’s pizza makes me physically ill. Last time I had it was 2001. Never again. At Pizza Hut my one year old was served sour milk. Never again. It’s Little Caesar’s or Marco’s for me.
This guy claims he invented chili sauce. Shameless!
he said, "thats the immigrants hot dog". A minute before tasting a hot dog with sauerkraut. Where do you think this comes from Stephen?
BBbobsleigh Even a regular hot dog essentially comes from German immigrants
Isn't he referring to the toppings? Toppings can change to appeal to a given culture. Down south. Add hot sauce.
Americans just take a while to appropriate foreign ingredients. Germans came to America a long time ago, thus sauerkraut has since been appropriated (along with hamburgers and hot dogs). I think sauerkraut, I instantly think of a delicious Reuben Sandwich though personally ;)
I never seen that option, sounds good though will have to try that
Nice ad
Totally unrelated, and not meant in a negative way - this was the first time I noticed Stephen's makeup.
Hot dog + Kimchi is nothing new; we used to put cut-up franks (and Kimchi and eggs and American cheese) in our Shin Ramyun/Neoguri all the time when we were kids.
The Man.
He looks a lot like that certain famous guy in the fighting game community...
I love Stephen but you can see the implicit racism in how he called the kimchi hotdog an immigrant hot dog. Sauerkraut is also an “immigrant” dish yet we consider the kimchi to be foreign. Not saying Stephen is a racist but we always forget our biases in stuff like this.
youngleo_95 He did that on purpose. You think STEPHEN wouldn't catch that? Especially since David explained it to him right before.
Im surprise Stephen didnt ask him " So where are you from?...Originally.
I don't think you guys heard him say "that's more american" right before saying it's an immigrant's hot dog. His point being essentially that everything "american" originated elsewhere.

boi ran up to chair quick as fck
Bourdain loved in and out which is fast food 🤷🏾♂️ and he loved the orange Mac n cheese from KFC lol they’re ppl too
Who cares!
I like chutney on hot dogs!
gotta get that third star
I love David Chang and "Ugly Delicious"... but I'd like to clear up a myth regarding Asian foods.

What a cutie (with a wedding ring). 😢
david chang is the shiznit
Domino's is fucking delicious.
Love that is happened.
I love david chang. But I feel a good chef can take any feedback. No one will be a harsher on my food then myself.
Kim Chi is just expensive Saurkraut ... and vatch it how you say "Kraut", mein freund!
That hot dog bit was lacking...
No one: ...
Me: who’s here from Worth It?!
David just ran out lmao
Of course it was Florida again. What the hell is going on in Florida?!
The woman who got pregnant must have ordered the "creme of sum yung guy"..a baby is just the gift with purchase.
It tickles me that kimchi and sauerkraut are the same thing - and so delicious! - and neither one of them was made in the USA. Viva los immigrants ! ! ! (Or however you say it in Spanish.)
Mahthah the only question here is: why are you bringing in Spanish language in a conversation about kimchi and sauerkraut?
Why not? The more countries, the merrier, eh?
Lol I was with him until the sauerkraut thing. No one ever thought that was cool.
What happened to Little Ceasar's most bestest for$ 6.54 after tax? 🤔😁
David Chang is really fucking cute
I'm a Cottage Inn loyalists. Dominos. Yuck. Use the crust to build wee shelters for the homeless.
Apt215 Melissa Brown Most of the country can't get Cottage Inn, sadly. I fell in love when I moved from Texas to Michigan.
I get pretty tired of Domino 's
ugly delicious is a cool show, but i just wanna say that season 1 episode 1. An exact ripoff of Frank Pinello's The Pizza Show. FRANK DESERVES SOME ROYALTIES
The Pizza Show is my shiiit!!
Chang will never replace Bourdain. Nobody ever will.
Tbh who doesn’t like dominoes. They got better.
Stepehn doesn't like his Asian guests. But I get it. He's from the south. Them people don't like 'em celestial.
immigrant hot dog. Bacon wrapped with ions n jalapenos.
Dude sauerkraut and kimchi might both be fermented cabbage, but they are not the same thing. Complete lies lol.
Avoid The Noid.
kinda looks like the dude from kate plus 8
"as american as it gets" ... they are from germany, just like hamburgers xD
Wow, im amazed how so many Asians can speak fluid English now. Ashamed Colbert didnt ask him where from Asia hes from.Im curious.
Pathetic attempt at trolling. Try harder!
Ok I will! Thanks moribund!
That is not Pizza, it’s a very bad copy
alexdapostman Sir, I am referring to Dominos “Pizza” which is outrageous and a disgrace to Italy. Nothing more nothing less. Everything else in this video doesn’t interest me. Religion has nothing to do with this matter. I am not interested in any Political matters.
Have a nice day
he owns a stake in domino's guaranteed
I have only ordered Dominoes once in recent years and it turned up really fast and was stone cold - basically a rerouted pizza. Had to bin it. Will never go there again. We have real wood-burning traditional pizza places in town so no-one in their right mind would do Dominoes.
Cold pizza is a delight though.... O.o
This did not age well
He looks like he doesn’t refuse any food…
