[V3] DIY 3 Zone Ride E-Cymbal (Underside Setup)
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 июл 2024
- Just another version of a DIY 3 zone ride cymbal you can consider building yourself that I think is worth a shot. I missed giving a close look at the rubber ring assembly but the build goes, the outer part is the thin side of the rubber, thick part is in the inner ring. The edge of the thin part sits on the middle of the membrane which triggers it. The thick part acts as kind of base support. If you have questions feel free to comment below. I'll try to get to all of them.

One thing you can do have an even playing across the bell is to put two piezos on the bell of the ride in each side, one facing you, and another opposed to you. But keep in mind that two piezos soldered together add signal, so my suggestion would be to solder one piezo to the jack with a 10k resistor, and the other piezo simply solder it to the first piezo.
Nice! Thanks for that suggestion!
Does this work similarly for a triggered snare for instance? I'm trying to remove hot spotting, but last time I tried to hook up two piezos it just didn't work right. I'd like to use 3 or 4 for the head zone on my snare, and I've seen a few products that have this feature but I'd rather diy it if I can, cause if I build it, I can fix it, and when touring with edrums that's a must.
@@samuelschrader depends on the module you use. I have a 2box Drummit 5 and my snare has 4 piezos on the head, without the need of the 10k. But that's basically what Efnote and ATV drums do.
@@sharkuel so when I was trying it, I was using an alesis, but now I'm using a mimic pro, so maybe it will work better with that. Do you just wire it to one side? Does it matter which side? I use all single zone for the sake of simplicity, but I dont see why that would effect anything.
@@samuelschrader the Mimic Pro should work. Alesis is kinda finicky with pads from other brands. Try connect the main one to the jack, then solder another piezo to the first, and then another, creating a trail of 3 to 4 piezos.
Just realised Jobeky doesn't ship to my country and co-incidentally found your channel at the same time - thanks so much for these videos!
Thanks for all your effort!! Your DIY build videos are the best on the internet.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽
DIY big pimpin' up in here! Love it!
Thank you!!! Gonna order those parts i need Now!!! Hope it will work!!
This is a great, thanks for making this tutorial!
Yo, thanks for checking it out man! 🙏🏽
Another good video! 👍🏻
Hi luv your diy builds so we can get informative discussions.
Could convert the bell piezo with the Raptor switch circuit. But like the idea of 2 piezos as mentioned. What size piezo for the bell? Also if your audience is handy, build the project box with piezo and jacks. I’m sure the membranes can be connected without the mate connector?
Also, to use a smaller project box, remove the jacks , install them and wire to the cymbal stand.
Great stuff man 👏👏🙏🏻
Very nice, thanks! How is the ride attached to the stand? Looks like it's not spinning at all.
Thanks! I'm using PDH wingnut. It helps reduce the spin. Not the best solution. But it works for me.
Great ressource, thank you! So which of the 3 methods you tried is the way to go?
Thanks! It depends what you’re going for. V3 is more stealth, but not great for cymbal swells, so maybe crash/efx. V2 is a bit better for swells. But for convenience and consistency and don’t mind rubber cymbals, Lemon cymbals are great. If DIY, underside bell piezo works great for DIY e-ride.
Looks like a winner. Would this setup work with an Alesis Strike Module?
Thanks! I would think so. I have no experience personally but you might want to check forums, or groups.
With your experience (3 different builds! I watched them all), do you recommend a foam riser between the cymbal and the edge membrane? If yes, how many milimeters? I bought some Myrk membranes, waiting the delivery.
Thanks for checking the videos! I still think there is some benefit in top membrane coz it can do swells better than underside switch. Myrk has a recommended build and routing pdf that he sends. He also has the recommended materials and riser size. If not wrong I think it is 3-4mm. Underside looks the best I think. Adjustment on the build would be to screw the rubber in place. But best performance would be lemon cymbals. Non-diy tho. But still cheap.
saw those low volume cymbals on alibaba, any good on their own? would love to see a sound demo on just the cymbal sound to see if they are worth buying!
Most lvc sound the same. If you heard one, that’s about all of them. They wont record well, they are just purely for practise. This B20 by TongXiang sounds a little better, and a little warmer, also a lil more expensive than normal LVC. Nothing to write home about. They are a little too thin so durability might be an issue. Best LVC I heard is from Agean. A little pricy though. DrumtecTV has some demo.
Great job! I love these videos. But its typical drummer mentality. If I spent as much time playing as I did tinkering with my layout and now ... building my own diy electronic cymbals, I would be touring the world by now 😂 But I'm pretty sure this is part of the fun of being a drummer.
Do you think that this setup would work with 14" low-volume hi-hats? Would I be able to use a bottom hat or do you think the rubber would prevent that. Goedrum sells a 14" hi-hat with ,it looks like, these same parts but it doesn't show a bottom cymbal. Just wondering what your opinion is please. Thanks!
For underside edge switch with that stealth trigger look. I would just probably go with the Hi-hat set from goedrum, coz they probably calibrated those already. Maybe better to double check with them your concerns.
@@ProjectBeats_ Thanks for the reply. Can I ask how easy it is to choke the cymbal with the rubber strip underneath? Thanks.
Np! Just like any edge membrane on rubber cymbals. Pretty much same
@@ProjectBeats_ Thanks very much! You're the best.
Does this one use a different membrane to work from the bottom side?
Underside membrane. I think link is in description unless something changed in their ebay store
Good video kabayan, malaking tulong ito s mga tulad Kong DIYer...!Kung ok lng, tanong ko sna kung puede rin i apply itong sa ilalim ang membrane S hihat?tanx uli and more power sainyong channel....!
Salamat! Pwede.
14” membrane for 14” HH the. Ung bottom use GHC2 Goedrum HH controller. Then 14” underside rubber. Dont need to 3D print HH mod pag yun ang setup
@@ProjectBeats_ gusto ko 2pcs hihat din kya inaalala ko ung underside strip at ung membrane bka masira pag tumama pag close and open ng 2pcs hihat ko?pasencya joven kung marami akong tanong, gusto ko lng cguraduhin ung item pag nag order me. S 3D print pla at rod jajapan japanin ko nlng, tutal trades man nman ako!cheers and more power uli on ur channel, god bless, have a good one
I suggest contact GoEdrum directly about bottom setup membrane. They will tell you all the parts you need if you want the bottom membrane setup. They have a specific bottom piece for that. The HH controller model I just told you in my previous response. If you want both cymbals top and bottom. Edge membrane on top and then use u-rubber channel around the top cymbal.
Im trying to understand how the rubber works. You say thin part touches the membrane and thick part is on the middle of the membrane but in the video it looks like the thick part is not touching the membrane at all.
The edge of the thin side sits on the middle of the membrane, not the thick part. The thin part triggers the membrane, the thicker part is kind of base support that goes on the inside of the ring
Bro how the hell did you get the membrane hooked up to the trigger box?
trigger box has provision for membrane switch.
@@ProjectBeats_ I understand that. I just think the box is poorly designed. I had to take it apart to get the membrane switch plugged in and even then, the ribbon cable is bent at an angle that is worrying
Can you diy something for triggering hihat, ride and crash with the twist, that it still should sound good enough for actual mic recording at the same time?
I just want to have the MIDI at the same time as I record it with mics.. 😭
Man, Imma drummer not an engineer 😅😅 that would be cool though. Good hybrid cymbals. Let me know if you find something!
We try to build the ultimate hybrid drum set, you know^^ There are so many products but it all isn't fitting 100% of the needs. If you could work something out, that works with the DDrum DDTI Trigger Interface and the DDrum Hybrid Kit, that would be the greatest thing ever.
Well actually you might be able to get away with moving the piezo away from the trigger box. Attach the box on the stand and use small piezo. Single zone might not be too disruptive with acoustic sound of the cymbals. Use minimal adhesive
I'm all around the internet for week trying to find a solution. There are Triggers by Magnatrack but they said in an email:
Looks like the Millenium Still Series Cymbal Set is a low-volume cymbal set. Having a single Magnatrack LVCTii trigger attached should not affect the overall acoustic sound on the Ride and Crash cymbals. The Hi-hat will need to be installed with some damping that will affect the acoustic sound.
Watch our quick start install videos to get a better idea.
www.magnatrack.com/support/quick-start/
There is also the Zildjian Gen16 system, but you can't get MIDI out of it. It would be awesome if this pickups would work with the DDrum DDTI. Like you said, it receives audio and sends MIDI. The Gen16 pickups could work, but many experts said, that those two things wouldn't allow each other. But no one tested it.
Do you think that the goedrum trigger would work with the DDTI? And if they would work, than I just had to figure out on what to do with the hihat.
I'm also just a singer so I just started to do research and learn about the whole topic.. ^^
I enjoy talking to you about that and I hope that you're not too annoyed with me^^
Magnatrac could work. Anything that sticks using minimal adhesive should be fine. 1 zone is ideal tho once you add edge membrane that will affect the acoustic sound. Bell and bow should be ok I think. Either magnatrac or separate the triger box fr piezo and stick piezo directly to cymbal. If you are using goedrum trigers. I imagine that would work
The v3 setup was way worse for me than the v2. V2 last me about a year before the membrane gave up, but at least it worked the whole time. I can't get the v3 rubber strip to stay in place, and it's not the cymbal side, it's the rubber strip side. Very disappointed with it.
Hey man sorry to hear. I’m still using both v2 and v3, I had to clamp the v3 once to stick again but still working great for me. Altho I now turned it into a side crash.
