The sap is collected and called as toddy which has medicinal values. Once sun rises, it becomes intoxicating and called as Toddy, or KALLU in Tamil and telugu.
Those trees are called " Toddy Palm" which are quite common in Southern states. The tree produces a intoxicated drink called Toddy (considered healthy) and fruit called ice apple which is a favourite summer fruit in South India..
