I have been using the Continental Ride Tour for over 2 years, and I've been really happy with it. This is a very popular option among bike commuters for a good reason. If you can live with the few annoyances, they come highly recommended.

I have been using these tires on my hybrid / commuter for 2 and a half years. No punctures yet! (Maybe I'm just lucky). Good tires on asphalt as well as on gravel. And i use them in the winter as well. There are 2 downsides: they are quite heavy. And the tire width sizes of this model are reduced (e.g. compared to Schwalbe) by about 5mm. I bought a 42mm wide tire, its actual width on the rims is about 37-38mm. The actual width of the 47mm tire was 42. 37mm wide tire-32mm. I have checked it myself and also read similar reviews online.
These are probably my favorite tires because of how good the value proposition is. Happy pedaling!

I use it as a training tire for my road bike in the surroundings of Mexico city (where I live) where the streets are not as beautiful and pristine as in Switzerland or Norway... Yes I agree the tire is heavy if I compare it with a pure road tire but having the certainty that I'll finish my training without having any puncture is a huge plus for me
As you mention the tire treads are so good for facing gravel, sand and mud, they really bring you a lot of confidence for facing such kind of unknown surfaces... guess what you will find in many roads in Mexico?
And the price!!, well Mexican cyclists, as me, do not have the purchase power for buying new tires every 3 months, so having a long lasting tire in a low price is excellent. For me they are the best tires for training for my bucks

@@gilr4024 Hi! after all this time, I can say Continental Ride Tour performs excellently as a Touring/Commuting/training tire, they are pretty robust and they perform exceptionally at speeds close to 30 km/hr and when there is mud and wet they are still functional. I never had an accident because of these tires.
When they are a little bit tricky to handle is when one is cornering at speeds about 35 km/hr, I guess the reason why it is the lateral pattern of the tire doesn't have the design as does a road tire for cornering at "high" speeds. Equally, due to their robustness, these tires are not for sprinting, and maintaining above 35km/hr for long periods is exhausting.
So, on the Continental site, they are labeled as touring and commuting and I pushed them out of what they are made of... Blame on me...
In my case, I choose these tires because they perform similarly to Schwalbe Marathon, have a lower price, and are sold by Amazon. The Mexican cycling market is quite limited and when something nice arrives sellers increase the price considerably. So, most of the time I finish buying my stuff on Amazon USA and I pay for the import tax. Doing this is cheaper for me most of the time than buying in local shops that do the same as I do but on a large scale...
Nice to hear you are coming back to cycling! I started practicing cycling when skinny tires 23C were the rule and not the exception haha, even though I used 19C, they were hard like rocks haha.
Now I'm a heavy rider I'm about 95 kilograms sometimes I'm a weekend warrior in my alloy bike with 105, I ride 28s at 90psi and 25s at 100psi right now I'm using Continental Gator Hardshells and Continental four seasons. At the moment I have good impressions of their performance on Mexican dirty roads, however, their price is significantly higher than Ride tours... Yeah I have seen Contact Urban performs well and some people recommend them but I haven't tried them yet... I hope this can help you

I have these tires on my touring bike. I have ridden a number of long rides (300+ miles) for the past 3 summers, weekly rides of 30-50 miles and never have had a flat, even on rocky trails, streets and back roads. The back tire is showing wear, and a few little cracks discussed in this excellent video are apparent. Otherwise, these tires are solid performers, fairly heavy, but dependable, even with full panniers, tent, etc. on the bike. No problems.
Got on a used bike, 700X42mm on 18mm rim only measures 38mm wide, did get a flat from staple near sidewall, easy to get tire off and on- mounted by hand.

I love the Continental Tour Ride Extra Puncture. I had XR2s on my 2019 Trek Marlin 5 and I use it as a rugged commuter bike. My XR2s lasted less than 600 miles and my Continentals have lasted over 3,600 miles with no flats.

I used this tire from 2009 to 2010/2011 and it was a very average tire in my experience. I don´t know if Continental improved this tire over time. I can´t remember there was a puncture belt but the profile was the looks the same. After a front/rear change at around 5k and a total of 11k the profile was gone and the tires got punctures very often to the end. (6x, i write everything down)
The Schwalbe Marathon XR (now Mondial) and even the Marathon Supreme have been a lot better even though the supreme has less profile. Yes, they both are more expensive.
My Supreme on the rear! wheel has currently run over 20k and on the front wheel >10k. Both without a puncture. I know this sounds crazy.
For myself, i would´t try to safe some € for a tire anymore.
I brought a set 700c 32mm back in June 2020. After 1500miles, tires show very little wear but do notice the cracks on the side walls.

Love my set have about 1300 miles on them no punctures. Good wet grip, good on gravel great value as well.
I wish the continental line came in a slightly wider model as there is a good amount of sand where i live being visually impaired my guid rider usually takes me down back/dirt roads i also hit alot of stuff that i just cannot see so tough tires matter. Thank for you reviews

Great review! You covered all the issues that may be a concern in any bike tire when purchasing it the first time. My Bontrager h2 700x32 tires that came on my Trek F3 are showing wear after 2+ years/3000+ miles, but I want a bit more tread for light hardpack and gravel when not on pavement. 80-90% of my ride time is on pavement so I want smooth rolling on hard surfaces. The smoother center does this and the extra tread on sides will give me bite on gravel. I think I will switch to these based on your complete and helpful review. Thanks!

Thank you for your review. Your link leads to a black / non reflex tire. What's more, I can't find the reflex version anywhere- This appears to be the only Conti in the commuter/trekking line that is NOT available in reflex. Great Job Continental!
Using them now but I will go back the marathon mondials in 700c40. The reasons are comfort, they aren't that expensive and with a little deflation you'll be able to manage some light mountain bike trails
Bought these for my MTB to turn it into hybrid/tour bike since the knobby MTB tires are noticeably slower on asphalt/tarmac. It all depends where you mostly cycle. If let's say your cycling happens 70% on pavement and 30% on MTB/forest trails, just get these continental tour ride tires or similiar touring tires (you will still be able to ride on trails with these just in slightly slower pace with less grip). If you are doing bikepacking style cycling on MTB with backpack/panniers you won't go fast on trails anyway on your MTB since the weight slows you down thus the knobby tires are kind of useless for that purpose. However if your goal is to enjoy trails and go fast on trails on MTB bike then definitely get knobby tires because the grip makes huge difference.
I bought pair of these (black version 26x1.75, without reflective stripe)
And is visible difference inbetween them. Loks they comes from different mould.
Same thread pattern but slightly difference in details (like information on side walls is written in differently)
One looks come from old and second from new mould...
So this is propably what people mention about quality.
Instalation was difficult, but after first wheel made - second one was easier when use 2 tyre levers.
This is set for my commuter bike, with tube sealant added to tubes, should be OK ;)
PS. Version i bought are E25 certified, so should cope well with my wegiht (110 kg+bike)

How do they perform in the wet on pavement. Here in the NL it rains a lot and I read negative reviews on most Conti product in wet conditions. Most are about the Contact speed.
Bought 32mm recently and can say they are very durable. I'd say my usage is 70% paved and 30% gravel. Works fine on compacted gravel but loose gravel is doubtful. Then again, my gravel tires have trouble with loose gravel.
i use these tyres on my hybrid bike which i commute to work on.Size is 42mm width.I havent had one puncture in 2 and half yrs.The price was incredible i think i paid about 20 pounds for 2 of them including postage on sale.They seem to roll quickly and they feel very hard to penetrate.Ive even ridden on snow and some ice and no issues at all.Ive had no issues with the sidewalls.On my road bike i run a schwalbe marathon greenguard 25mm which i find excellent too.
I think that this strikes a good balance of quality, performance, speed and price. I love this tire too.

Hi!, I have a roam 3 and I'm looking for a replacement set for the stock crosscuts (not really good tires), would you recommend these for 90% urban riding, but occasional off-road riding?
Good stuff, bought a pair for my new road bike before checking this review which just gave me more confidence in my purchase. Excited to get them mounted and get on NYC roads this spring, I'll need the puncture resistance for sure!

I have the 700x42c Road Tour on a old Diamondback Approach that I built for commuting and pleasure riding. So far they have been great!
I just buy a pair on that size for my "Macho Man" All City Gravel bike. Do you recommend them? They're really/look wide in 700x42 or nah?
@@jsmagana8775 Not really! Their not a whole lot wider than my 700x38c Kenda's I have on my other bike. As for recommending them, I like them, but haven't had them on for a long time yet. Definitely rides smooth.
@@tomhinklejr.5055 little dissapointing. I was between this ones or a Panaracer Gravelking in 700x43. For economy choose this ones, but I like it wide tires. I've seen WTB resolute, but i need more city/hybrid tires than a off road ones.
@@jsmagana8775 Same here! My single speed is my "Go-Too" for off road use, but my geared bikes I use for running around town, or riding rail-trails with my wife.
@@jsmagana8775 do not get gravel kings they have very weak puncture resistances, they're the best looking tire that's about it. They're also bad at absorbing shock.
I have the same tyre in 700 x 42 and it mounts really easy. Had one puncture though, which I could ride for an extra 50km with regularly adding air as it was escaping at very slow pace.
What size tube should I get as I use the same size tyre that you have (700 x 42c)

I want to get these as they are significantly cheaper than Schwalbe Marathon Plus...but Marathon Plus almost eliminate punctures completely and lasted me years before, I really don't want to return to the hassle of getting punctures!
it really depends where you’re going to ride them. If you ride on decent roads, they are sufficient in my opinion. If the quality is bad or there are lots of thorns or goat heads, go for the Marathon Plus.
Hello guys. I am a (relatively) newbie in cycling matters.
An old road bike I was given as a gift, currently has BTWIN PunctureProtect 700x25.
I measured the clearance on available max tire width and I could easily go up to 700x35 dimensions
Could I replace them with the tire on this video ?
I have found it online in my country as the following = Continental Ride Tour 28" 700 X 32
Why is there a 28" in front of the 700x32 ?
Could that be a sign of an incompatibility ?
All I know, is my current tyre is the BTWIN 700x25 and I am confused of that "28"...

But are they good in the water,ice,snow and wet roads? I have the continental contact winter and they rum good in the rain good grip. Heavy but good on snow and great puncture resistant.
They're actually not too bad. Wet and snowy roads are ok. They will struggle on ice, of course, but you really need studded tires there.

I love the original Marathon tires. These are probably better if you do some mixed terrain riding, the green guard is probably better for pure urban riding.
i have used Continental Ride Tour tires couple of years and today i had first puncture..it was glass puncture..i had to walk 10 km :D
mine also cracked after just a couple of months, that is something that shouldn't happen that soon imo, my michelins never showed any cracking

can i put 26x1,75 tires for simple wheel 90's MTB?
You need to check the tire that the bike is currently rocking to be 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure that most 90's MTBs will accept that tire.

Installed back tire on Sept. 2022, immediately put it away for the winter, just pulled the bike out May 2023, Ssdewall is cracked almost all the way around!

Hey man nice video. I just brought a pair of continental ride tours 27.5 x 1.4 but i cant see to find an inner tube the same size? Am i missing something because all i can seem to find is 1.5 tubes.
Had these tyres on hybrid bike,noticed the sidewalls starting to ware at the rear rim ,took it off checked it was seated properly it was ?? This was only after a few hundred miles, changed them to Schwalbe marathon plus .
I haven’t heard of that issue in these tires before. I only know of people who had problems with cracking sidewalls. The Schwalbe Marathon Plus is a solid tire. I’ve just tested them and posted a video about them recently.
what was the inner width of the rim and what was the width of the tire? The rim may have been too narrow for this tire.
I find the side walls split far too easily.
Yes. This is my main gripe with these tires too. In my case this has been more a cosmetic issue than a safety one, but it's something to be noted and something that Continental should pay more attention to.

I mount them super easy, and unmounted with no effort. i have no reflectorizant belt on them... buy in Europa in 2020 october. Pros: Very confortable. cons: hevy and slow.

They are puncture proof. That's all. They get hard after a few months, become cracks in dried out sidewalls, grip in wet is ridiculous after a few months, rolling resistance is more than expected.
I would also point out that Continental's website is really shitty and they are nasty and hostile when contacted.

Haha! Thanks! I lived in Ireland for a long time and it took me forever to get used to miles. By the time I did, they changed over to the metric system. My running buddy forced me to get used to min/mile. Other than miles I find lbs understandable, but still can't wrap my head around Fahrenheit, stone. I'm metric at heart!

I have 6 bikes and put the Continental Contact Plus on the front of two of them.
One is 700 × 28 and the other is
700 × 32. They've been excellent for my needs, commuting and recreational light touring. Over the years, I've mostly used Continental
(too many to remember or list) Panaracer
(RiBMo & Tserv) and recently tried Schwalbe Marathon Plus and Marathon Supreme.
I'm almost 58, have been riding all my life and worked as a bike messenger in Chicago for 3 years. While changing tubes and tires for myself and for friends, I still run into mishaps like you described.
